Food shopped has arrived and guess what’s missing?

What is missing from yours? And ..which shop was delivering it?
After getting a coveted delivery slot with Sainsbury’s, it has arrived and they have “lost “ the freezer food. FFS
No pigs in blankets, icecream, peas, pizza for a quick Xmas eve dinner with movie (amongst other stuff). Now have to trawl the bloody supermarket tomorrow. Exactly the reason I persevered with securing an online slot in october.
Now on hold for the helpline (15 minutes so far) to get a refund. Last Xmas shop with them for me. They fucked up last year too with. A long list of unavailable items received. This year, only a few replacements and it was looking good until the delivery arrived minus a crate or two.

4 subs on my Sainsbury’s - kept all but one. Not bad!

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 22/12/2024 23:38

We get together with friends for Christmas Day. Between us we are all but one vegan or vegetarian. We all get an Ocado order. One friend messaged today to say Ocado had subbed his vegan dessert with a meringue roulade! Last year the vegan menu was missing. I’ve not had my order confirmed yet, should be coming tomorrow night.

I don't bother any more, they always have things missing and substituted. One year they didn't send any veg at all, and one baking potato rather than a bag of maris piper
And one year they substituted all the veggie stuff like a nut roast, veggie stock cubes, Sausages for all meat? Sometimes i think they take the piss deliberately 😅
Hope you get it sorted! It does make you wonder why we bother going to the effort of booking months in advance

I can't remember which supermarket it was but I once had a savoy cabbage substituted with ONE Brussels sprout 😐

IlovePond · 22/12/2024 23:49

Just reset my password now and got a new Nectar card number- bit less dramatic than cancelling my account 🙈

I went to Asda today for some extra bits and pieces. It was manic, but I was very happy to find the Free From aisle full of GF goodies and empty of other shoppers!

Unfortunately, a customer and a member of staff then had a huge row right next to me in self checkout. It was awful and I was quite shocked.

Having said that, I do love Asda. The shelves today were well-stocked and I got quite a lot of money off via my cash pot savings.

On a related note: Our local Asda delivery drivers are usually a delight - very friendly.

Peachy2005 · 22/12/2024 23:55

This thread inspired me to go look on Tesco and 🤩got a delivery for tomorrow afternoon: they must have had a load of cancellations or else around 11pm they suddenly released slots they were holding back for some reason. Happy Days! Will see in the morning email how much stuff is unavailable.

TerrysNeapolitan · 23/12/2024 00:01

We popped to the supermarket today and purchased all Christmas week food items, no fuss or stress. Just go to the shop!

AMiddleClassWomanOfACertainAge · 23/12/2024 00:03

I have an Ocado delivery booked for 10:00 today. Fingers crossed as I really can’t face going in person.

@Lucylaughing I’ve also stopped buying bananas from them, got fed up of having to request a refund when they turned up bruised each week.

PlayingDevilsAdvocateisinteresting · 23/12/2024 00:16

I have always wrapped them in our bedroom with my husband, often with carols playing quietly in the background. We never started before 11.00pm, and it usually ended up starting on Christmas Eve, and going through into Christmas Morning.

I started this tradition in 1980, and still do the same these days, even though I am now an OAP! I usually have at least 1 adult child and his or her partner, staying over on Christmas Eve. Father Christmas gives them just as many presents now as he always did - but these days it is usually only one from their "lists", some silly ones for their stockings, and some practical ones as well. Their partner is obviously given the same amount in monetary (and hopefully pleasurably) terms, as my biological children are. I think that if I had a bigger house, all of my children and their partners, and my gorgeous grandchildren would all like to sleep over on Christmas Eve, even if they go to their partners parents for their Xmas dinner! Oh, it often included my MiL too when she was still with us. Happy Christmas to all you lovely Mumsnetters, and your dear families 🤶

sorry posted on wrong thread

BlueyandBingo · 23/12/2024 01:33

I’m up with my poorly DC and just logged into ocado to check my delivery. 11 things are missing including Christmas pudding, biscuits for cheese, bananas, cucumber and a birthday cake…. I appreciate that there might be some shortages but why on earth did I bother ordering if they are going to miss over 25% of my items. They also pick from a dark store so it isn’t like they can blame customers buying it off the shelf.
i am fuming and not sure how I can get out to get the bits i need as DH is at work and DC is definitely not well enough for me to drag around the shops…

mondaytosunday · 23/12/2024 02:58

I had Tesco deliver today (they had slots available for Xmas Eve too) all the long life stuff (wine, pet food, paper towels, pasta etc) as there's more to it than just one day! The Waitrose will deliver today (Monday) the turkey and veg and stuff for the day. And if anything left out still have time to get it. Shocking amount spent on a few days eating though.

TENSsion · 23/12/2024 06:15

Seven substitutions that will all have to go back but all easily bought from M&S when I pick our food to order in two hours.
It’s not so bad. I’d much rather only have to get 7 items than a full shop in person.

KatLiz · 23/12/2024 06:22

We had our Tesco delivery yesterday, only one substitution - cheap lardons switched for Finest, so that was a bonus! Although we nearly didn't get any of the chilled food as the chilled lock box on the delivery van had jammed shut. My husband was passing tools to the driver to assist him, and he eventually forced it open with a wallpaper scraper 😂. We donated the scraper to him so the rest of the customers on his route could get their cold food too!

Newdoggo · 23/12/2024 07:01

Asda due in the next hour, one sub of a chicken for a different chicken - happy with that :)

SunshineRose12 · 23/12/2024 07:15

Waitrose order due 9 o clock this morning. 104 items, all key Christmas type items. 8 substitutions and all very sensible, will be keeping them all - well done Waitrose!

AMiddleClassWomanOfACertainAge · 23/12/2024 07:30

Just had the email re our delivery due at 10:00, one missing item, being a non-Christmas essential M&S curry so am happy with that. Just need to have everything delivered without squashing, leakages etc. A few months ago several of our bags and shopping had blood from fresh meat all over them. We are a vegetarian household so hadn’t come from ours, was most grim.

Impatientwino · 23/12/2024 07:50

I have Waitrose coming today and they have just told me that the 2 x 24 pigs in blankets from their entertaining range are unavailable!

Bit unreasonable considering I ordered them in October, they're not just off the shelf and I have been unable to amend my entertaining items since mid December! (Not that I wanted to)

Everything else is there as ordered so pleased about that and just glad to have not had to go!

UpTheMagicChristmasTree · 23/12/2024 07:58

Our Tesco delivery coming this morning appears to have everything we need. The only thing unavailable was Lucozade, which we can do without. @Impatientwino I'd be very upset not to have any pigs in blankets!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/12/2024 08:04

Ocado have done well. Nothing left out. Two reasonable substitutions for ice cream and croissants. Arrived bang on time at 7am. Fridge and freezer Jenga complete. Should not need to go near a shop for some time now. Result!

I pay for a midweek delivery pass but it doesn't cover Christmas week, so delivery cost £9.99. Fair enough. Taxi would have cost similar (no car here) and I hate going to the supermarket for a big shop at the best of times, let alone at the busiest time of the year.

Well done! That would have been so frustrating for all concerned, so near and yet so far from the chilled food.

SlingingArrows · 23/12/2024 08:09

I normally have substitutions turned off but had an email from Tesco to say I have 4 subs so I wonder if they are doing them regardless as it's Christmas?
1.25kg Maris pipers for 2kg
12 rashers thick cut bacon for 20 normal
Finest croissants for normal Tesco ones
Cranberries for cherries

So will keep the top 3 as they are fine but definitely don't want cherry sauce with my turkey so they can go back!

evtheria · 23/12/2024 08:15

Tesco have done well with mine! 74 items and 2 have been subbed:

Instead of Hawes Wensleydale it's the standard Tesco one,
Instead of the Finest Rye unsliced loaf from the bakery it's the Finest Stonebaked Seeded one.

We aren't fussy about the cheese as we only ever have supermarket own 'normal line', I just wanted to try a different one as a treat, and the bread they've given is actually our favourite special one (again, was trying something else) so I'm very happy here! Woke up ill and was dreading going to the shops with DS for anything big.

doodleschnoodle · 23/12/2024 08:23

We always order the important stuff (the meat!) from our local butcher. Maybe a bit more expensive but probably not massively by the time you add it all up and it's really nice stuff and no worry about subs. We paid £62 and got 2.5kg turkey butterfly, 800g stuffing, 24 pigs in blankets, and 450g of pork sausage meat. I wouldn't risk something as vital as pigs in blankets in a supermarket shop Xmas Grin

Our Tesco shop came yesterday and no subs, just a short date on some yoghurt, so that's all good. Was thinking I would have to go on a last-minute crusade for goose fat but it turned up. We only had one festive food to order item, some cake, which turned up fine.

Ceebeegee · 23/12/2024 08:24

We've had a pack of Yorkshire puddings substituted with one large Yorkshire pudding, and a cranberry wensleydale swapped for a hot n spicy cheese.
Frozen bake from home croissants were missing and not substituted.
Not bad, I'm relieved the important bits are here (the pigs in blankets, obviously!)

I can't remember which supermarket it was but I once had a savoy cabbage substituted with ONE Brussels sprout 😐

I hope you didn't eat it all at once! Xmas Grin

My best ever substitution (Tesco, over 20 years ago, and not at Christmas) was receiving a packet of rich tea fingers instead of a tub of roasted pistachio nuts. Can only assume either the computer or the picker somehow made a leap from pistachio nuts to ginger nuts to the most neutral biscuit choice available. Very odd.
