Food shopped has arrived and guess what’s missing?

What is missing from yours? And ..which shop was delivering it?
After getting a coveted delivery slot with Sainsbury’s, it has arrived and they have “lost “ the freezer food. FFS
No pigs in blankets, icecream, peas, pizza for a quick Xmas eve dinner with movie (amongst other stuff). Now have to trawl the bloody supermarket tomorrow. Exactly the reason I persevered with securing an online slot in october.
Now on hold for the helpline (15 minutes so far) to get a refund. Last Xmas shop with them for me. They fucked up last year too with. A long list of unavailable items received. This year, only a few replacements and it was looking good until the delivery arrived minus a crate or two.

I ordered some bread on mine - just plain old bread, nothing fancy - just a loaf for the freezer for easy breakfasts just in case. Not available - no suitable substitution available - Tesco 🤣

We went for months not getting any bread from Tesco. They had the same bread but sliced, which DH hates.

Rosbeet · 23/12/2024 19:49

£200 of Tesco, no missing items, no substitutions!

People complain that the high street shops are in decline and blame various things for this, however surely not going shopping for your own stuff is the main reason! People started having home deliveries of food during Covid but there’s no excuse not to go to the shops yourself now.

I’ve been having home deliveries for over 15 years and even I didn’t I wouldn’t be going to my high street.

Home delivery existed long before covid & there's plenty of reasons to not go for it for many people. It's mostly the long distance for me, it's a very long trip as I live in a remote village, it's nearly 4 hours of travelling on single track roads and it's very tiring indeed once you've shopped then unpacked it all once you're home. We have tried to shop locally as much as we can for the 30 years that we've lived here, which has been challenging especially during covid because there's so little choice, the stock levels are unreliable so you can't get everything you want or need and it's become too expensive.

The decline of high streets started decades ago, not during Covid. I started getting online deliveries well over 20 years ago. It probably differs around the country but here in Inner London the arrival of huge supermarkets in the 1980s and 90s dealt a death blow to small local shops like butchers and greengrocers. They couldn't compete on price, range of goods or parking facilities, so they mostly closed. We ended up with a few convenience stores, expensive and not selling much fresh food, then Tesco Metro and all the other local versions of the big supermarkets, and now we have a few extremely expensive butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers, delis and farmers' markets here and there as well. I'm not taking any business away from local shops that aren't chains. I can't afford to shop in the newer small shops other than for an occasional treat. I can't get everything I want and need from Sainsbury's Local or the small Co-op. I get deliveries rather than trekking to a supermarket in person because we don't have a car, like a high proportion of Londoners.

Mrsgreen100 · 23/12/2024 20:02

Mine turned up with 4 hams two huge chickens etc etc
I can’t believe how much food , I refused what I didn’t order , driver was throwing stuff around
etc , some how they sent two plus orders goodness knows how, I booked my slot in early November and amended it a few days ago ! Turns out that I also got charged for all of it , their system has been dropped out taking ages to load etc but seriously
28 leeks 5 bags of parsnips etc
its normally a delight to have a Waitrose delivery drivers helpful and nice ( I’m disabled and can’t drive atm) so appreciate them
guessing Christmas hire nightmare
But I’m completely pissed off

Diversion · 23/12/2024 20:07

Tesco - 5 substitutions and 4 missing items. Will return the subs as although they were the same thing they were much cheaper brand. Im not a snob, and normally shop frugally, but just want my Christmas dinner to be good. Popped into Asda on the way home to replace the things I need and got my favourite wine at a bargain price.

JollyHollyMe · 23/12/2024 20:17

Tallulahbelle1038 · 23/12/2024 19:45

Ocado shop, nothing ‘not available’, 3 subs and all very reasonable or better than what I had ordered!

You pay for what is delivered with Ocado if it is more expensive then you pay more

Skates · 23/12/2024 20:19

I work for Sainsburys as a delivery driver. This time of the year is absolute stress for us. Not enough drivers or vans. Traffic. Customers not home in their delivery time slot. Heavy loads. and yes bloody substitutions. We as drivers cannot understand why on earth anyone would pick a delivery on Xmas ev then complain about subs and non items. Last year I had a woman throw a can at my head because there was no turkey. She didn’t even reserve one. Iv been called names. Not that it bothers me. Swear at a driver and you get blacklisted. We don’t pick your shopping. We only deliver what we are given

Yes you do & you get a voucher back with the difference which I’ll use on the next shop!

@rebelrun Thank you for this thread. It made me somewhat prepared for the disappointment of my Tesco delivery this evening, so I didn't go into a panic or become angry when 88 euro worth of my 319 euro shop was delivered. Do I win the thread?

No idea what happened to the rest.... its not even showing up in the app as ever being ordered. But I know it went through because I was surprised when it said Order Confirmed without asking me to confirm in banking app (I was amending an existing order I'd made to hold the slot). So no wine, soft drinks, party food, biscuits, sweets, and I can hardly remember the rest of the things I'd ordered. Anyway, only for reading this thread last night I think I would have been shocked and angry. So thank you.
I will send DH to shop tomorrow instead and do my Christmas food shop in person every other year.
Merry Christmas everyone.

You win 🏅 but oh no! I hope your DH gets better luck in the morning. The shops still have plenty, maybe less choice over type e.g fresh v frozen and less choice over prices ( plenty of high end stuff, not a lot of mid range).
I am definitely going to start gradually gathering my food items on my usual weekly shop and just leave the veg for the online shop. ( though secretly I do enjoy the online food lotto, it’s becoming a quite the annual event)

I braved the M&S food hall today. Actual hell on earth. At least in the supermarkets there's decent sized aisles to manoeuvre around!

JMSA · 23/12/2024 20:30

JaniceBattersby · 22/12/2024 20:45

Nothing missing from my £300 Tesco shop.

I asked the delivery driver why they don’t do Christmas Eve deliveries and he said because on the last year they did it there were so many threats, and actual violence, toward drivers that they had to stop it.

I find Tesco really, really good. Been using their online shopping service for YEARS and wouldn't change.

That's such a shame about their drivers at Christmas Sad

MumToCaptainChaos · 23/12/2024 20:36

Lucylaughing · 22/12/2024 20:28

I had three (v reasonable) substitutions on my Ocado order and nothing at all missing - e.g. own brand butter for branded.
Very rarely have anything wrong with my order except I've given up getting bananas from them as they're always bruised.

Same experience here with Ocado, always reliable and rarely anything missing - but we avoid the bananas too 😂😂😂

Bryonyberries · 23/12/2024 20:42

Had my final delivery this evening. A couple of subs but they were upgrades. Dates all good. Nothing missing. I've had things delivered over several shopping slots as I have a weekly one anyway and I've got all I wanted.

That’s horrendous! Sorry you and your colleagues have to put up with awful behaviour and violence. It should be obvious to all that substitutions are not chosen by the driver.

i thought mine was going well until my Asda driver told me that none of the fridge food had been packed 😂 I didn’t notice until he said it and then he had to go through all the chilled items on the order individually and refund them. It was also missing my 8p Brussels sprouts, gutted. I’m working tomorrow and Tuesday so DH will have to brave the shops.

I gave up on Asda a couple of years ago. Their delivery service is atrocious! In 12 months of fortnightly deliveries there wasn't ONE single delivery which had everything I'd ordered. Absolutely the worst supermarket!

Mummynumber · 23/12/2024 20:51

TENSsion · 22/12/2024 20:28

I’ve just checked to see if my online delivery had squirty cream on it; it’s being delivered tomorrow… and realised that I haven’t even ordered any food! It just had the usual bottle of whisky holding the slot 😮
Thankfully, I’ve been able to order it in time but that would have been a horrific start to the day 😂😂

After drinking the bottle of whisky you wouldn't have cared about anything else! lol

Househusband123 · 23/12/2024 21:00

I got most delivered Friday with tesco without any problem. Went with my son today to get some milk and bread on way home from appointment. Total carnage.

WellManneredFrivolity · 23/12/2024 21:19

ouch321 · 22/12/2024 21:43

Seems as though Tesco is the most reliable based on this thread.

I think it’s store dependent, we stopped using Tesco because they never delivered the full
shop, we selected no subs and there would always be at least 5 things they ‘didn’t have’, all standard stuff. We switched to Ocado and have had no subs so far, Christmas shop came Friday with everything on it. But I do think it depends on the store it’s coming from

Lollypop701 · 23/12/2024 21:21

I went shopping… happy enough but there was absolutely no bacon… not anything… will have to brave the shops tomorrow

AnnieAstronaut · 23/12/2024 21:35

Tesco was spot on today; one substitution which was 85% Lindt chocolate rather than the 70% I ordered, they refunded it even though they let me keep it.
Will definitely be using them again next year.

Spooky2000 · 23/12/2024 21:44

EmeraldRoulette · 22/12/2024 20:48

Whisky and squirty cream 😂
depends what else you have on but you might be able to create a new cocktail!

@JaniceBattersby that's awful. I've often thought it must be a crap time to work but I didn't think it would be that bad!

I might go to M&S on Christmas Eve to see what I can get from yellow stickers. I have no idea if that is a mad idea as I never usually go to shops before the day and I have not lived here long. I'm also bored but possibly not that bored 😂

Try working in a bar. 🙄😐I have two jobs and one's professional and the other is in a bar. I'm the one who chucks people out for being aggressive. It's a nightmare EVERY year.

FearOfTheDucks · 23/12/2024 21:44

Got my Sainsbury's delivery this morning. All there, and the only substitution was one brand of fabric softener for another.

I'd ordered a few bottles of wine and got one extra! I didn't see it at the time as my brother was the one who was home to take the delivery. A nice surprise, but I hope there isn't someone out there who ordered only one bottle and didn't get it.

shehasglasses48 · 23/12/2024 21:55

just don’t do it! Everyone I know who’s done on line has got some of the main elements missed out. Just do it bit by bit. And yes, I do work and more than full time
