In need of Christmas Day dessert inspo... what are you having?

Just that really.. I haven't been in the headspace for Christmas yet this year and need to get my arse together!

What is everyone else making? (Or buying, no judgement here and may still be good inspo for something to make!)

The only restrictions for us are that I detest anything lemon and most of the others aren't big on the traditional classics like Christmas cake/pudding or mince pies.

Contenders so far include pistachio tiramisu, some kind of sticky toffee Christmas pudding hybrid (reviews say non Christmas pud fans love it, or tiramisù trifle.

I'll probably make two options anyway so keen to see what others are having!

Oooh I read this earlier and it only had 4 posts, looks like I need a G&T to enjoy while I read through the ideas! Thanks everyone 😊

It's my partners birthday this week, so been busy making a malteaser cheesecake and a biscoff one. So may swerve cheesecakes on Christmas Day too now!

I'm just making a biscoff cheesecake because biscoff is heroin to me and that's that

Same haha but unfortunately the wider family don't love it on the same level as me!

I’m a heathen and like to make orange jelly with a tin of mandarins poured in, plus a bucket load of Cointreau so that it only just sets. Squirty cream on top, or extra thick double cream on the side. I’m not really a dessert person though.

Like an elevated vodka jelly! I'd totally eat this 🤤

So many recommendations for Nigella's chocolate and cherry trifle, I feel like I definitely need to consider this one 😆

Apple strudel is really easy to make, tastes delicious (especially with brandy cream) and looks special.

wigsonthegreenandhatsforthelifting · 16/12/2024 23:01

Whatever catches my eye in the freezers in M&S!!

StrikeForever · 16/12/2024 23:06

We’re having Tiramisu, but it’s just DH and me on Christmas Day and we’re just eating things we fancy, not a particularly Christmasy meal.

Jinglingandmingling · 16/12/2024 23:09

Very traditional here, trifle at lunchtime, Christmas pudding with brandy butter after dinner. But years ago I used to make a Josceline Dimbleby recipe - a chocolate biscuit cake with ginger biscuits and dried fruit in a pudding basin . Turned out and then white chocolate drizzled over the top. Decorated with a sprig of holly. I’m thinking I’ll make a vegan version for my vegan guest in case people would prefer it to the traditional pud.

@Flubadubba oh how I miss that cold rice pudding with cherries and almonds from when we lived in Copenhagen -I was addicted to it!!'

Bibbitybobbity70 · 16/12/2024 23:12

Nigelllas chocolate mousse cake. No one except me likes christmas pudding & all dislike trifles. Have done this last 2 yrs & even DS2 who is not really a pudding fan enjoys this.

For Christmas Eve we have pumpkin pie, sticky toffee pudding and a semi freddo fruit wreath (a wide range of palettes to cater for).

On Christmas Day, we will have the beautiful chocolate croissant pudding (it is heavenly), trifle and Yule log.

Boxing Day is allllll the leftovers combined!

Alittlebitfluffy · 17/12/2024 13:05

I didnt know pumpkin pie was a thing over Christmas, I did one in October (not sure if that's me watching too much American TV!)

A mint chocolate ripple wreath, that's a must have for the (adult) kids. And make your own mini pavlovas, requested by the youngest who likes meringue and fruit but not cream, so everything will be on the table and they can sort themselves!

I don't suppose you have the recipe for the mint wripple wreath do you? Sounds delicious!

The children have Mary Berry's easy chocolate brownies with ice cream, made the day before and warmed in the microwave.

Adults have a choice: white chocolate and raspberry trifle (ever so simple, slice a swiss roll and base a glass bowl with it, then cover in Kirsch or sloe gin and add a layer of raspberries and/or cherries.... melt a bar of white chocolate into a tub of shop bought custard, layer onto the sponge/fruit then top with whipped cream and grated white chocolate). Just assemble the night before. Or Lindt chocolate cheesecake https://www.janespatisserie.com/2019/04/27/lindt-chocolate-cheesecake/ again every so easy and made the night before.

Edited

I do love Jane's cheesecake recipes, the mint aero is a favourite of mine!

We will have Christmas pudding (made), tiramisu (made and mandatory!) and raspberry/white chocolate pavlova (bought)

JMAngel1 · 17/12/2024 13:31

Oh my goodness. Lindt chocolate cheesecake sounds heavenly

ny20005 · 17/12/2024 13:34

Just wondering if anyone knows of any really good disposable/ plastic dishes with lids I could make a cheesecake in ?

Going to Mil & she has form for claiming the dishes / tins are hers so not bringing any of mine over Grin

Chestnut parfait

Mary Berry's Christmas wreath meringue! It's Cranachan themed so topped with whisky cream, whipped with oats in, topped with frosted raspberry and rosemary to decorate as it it were a wreath!

I've also found that ris a l'amande is universally popular, including with those who have never heard of it, or claim they wouldn't eat cold rice pudding.

I use this recipe:

https://mydanishkitchen.com/2010/12/10/12-days-of-christmas-ris-a-la-mande/

If you can find a jar of cherries in kirsch, it makes the sauce amazing instead of using a tin.

We are having Ris a l'amande as well (DH is Danish) - rice, whipped cream, almonds and cherries.

We usually serve it in little glasses (like the picture) as we are all stuffed on after dinner

In need of Christmas Day dessert inspo... what are you having?
steppemum · 17/12/2024 16:45

trifle
raspberry frozen mouse (mum makes it)
roulade - meringue and cream and fruit - asdas, very tasty

we have 13 people so lots of puddings

WhatsItWorthToYou · 17/12/2024 16:53

Sticky toffee pudding
Small brownie bites
Two types of ice creams
Maybe a trifle to add to that

And whilst Waitrose still sell puddings, I don't make them Grin

Fink · 17/12/2024 17:04

We always have Christmas pudding, trifle (non-alcoholic, for children), and a Yule log.

We'll have a few days together but I don't know what else I'll do. I think probably white chocolate cheesecake, maybe profiteroles, and a Sachertorte. I like melting middle chocolate puddings, but only when everyone's ready to eat at once, we they aren't always with children. I've been asked to do a Baked Alaska, but the last one I tried didn't work.

We have cheese as a separate supper later on, so no need to hurry the puddings!

GettingStuffed · 17/12/2024 17:05

DS is making Turkish delight brownie with vanilla ice cream

louderthan · 17/12/2024 17:23

I don't like Christmas pudding at all so torn between sticky toffee pudding or something like tarte Tatin or frangipane. With crème fraiche and or squirty cream (or both)
