In need of Christmas Day dessert inspo... what are you having?

Just that really.. I haven't been in the headspace for Christmas yet this year and need to get my arse together!

What is everyone else making? (Or buying, no judgement here and may still be good inspo for something to make!)

The only restrictions for us are that I detest anything lemon and most of the others aren't big on the traditional classics like Christmas cake/pudding or mince pies.

Contenders so far include pistachio tiramisu, some kind of sticky toffee Christmas pudding hybrid (reviews say non Christmas pud fans love it, or tiramisù trifle.

I'll probably make two options anyway so keen to see what others are having!

Sticky toffee puddings mini ones and I'll freeze them
Chocolate brownies
Apple crumble - I cook the apples till they're just soft then freeze .Make crumble topping with porridge oats and freeze then when we decide to eat it assemble ,bake, loads of ice cream
DD wants steamed syrup pudding on Christmas day
Trifle but that might wait for later ...and No Jelly in it 😃

Crunchymum · 16/12/2024 16:36

Probably just bought in Yule Log and ice cream (or custard / cream - I have it all in). We are having our dinner on Boxing day this year.

I'll be making a cheesecake to take to my sisters on CD but don't have the space in the fridge for desserts so am prioritising the CD dessert!

Scottishskifun · 16/12/2024 16:39

I do a tiramisu which does Christmas day and boxing day.
I make it Christmas eve and other then requiring a few bowls it's really quick and easy and the longer it has in the fridge the better it is.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 16/12/2024 16:41

M&S chocolate pine cones and cream are a must here for Xmas day

Meadowfinch · 16/12/2024 16:46

I'm serving mince pies and home made ginger ice cream, and a simple tiramisu.

There's plenty of cheeses, crackers and salad as well.

thisoldcity · 16/12/2024 17:04

I like the idea of doing one of these. I can't use any alcohol though - what would you use instead time soak the cake, but also stop it getting too sweet?

Glitterybee · 16/12/2024 17:08

We’re having a choice of chocolate Yule log or trifle, along with fresh cream or ice cream

There’ll be Christmas pudding also for the few who like it.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 16/12/2024 17:08

@thisoldcity what about using the juice from the tinned cherries ?

weareallqueens · 16/12/2024 17:11

I messed up my white chocolate cheesecake last week so I've been scared off for a week while.

I'm having trifle made with frozen berries.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 16/12/2024 17:12

Dark chocolate & raspberry torte.

Oaty biscuit base. Fill with chocolate ganache. When set top with raspberries.
Serve with vanilla icecream

I've also found that ris a l'amande is universally popular, including with those who have never heard of it, or claim they wouldn't eat cold rice pudding.

I use this recipe:

https://mydanishkitchen.com/2010/12/10/12-days-of-christmas-ris-a-la-mande/

If you can find a jar of cherries in kirsch, it makes the sauce amazing instead of using a tin.

How many people are attending?
I always have a pre-baked pastry case in the pantry because its SO easy to whip up a dessert in one.
-chocolate tart with berries
-pecan pie
-Salted caramel tart. Smooth a tin of caramel in the case, sprinkle with a little salt, smooth over a thin later of melted chocolate. That's it!
-I normally use the case for a lemon meringue, but see you don't like lemon
-Hazelnut meringue cake https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/recipe/strawberry-hazelnut-meringue-cake?srsltid=AfmBOoroxJxgxd-jd3E1Fvsp7Y17qzs4NNHAzu5tl8a3TcWU-uU-g01T
-Bag of frozen berries. Add some sugar and about 1T cornflour to the mix. On top, add a sponge cake, either from scratch or a bought packet you mix with egg/water etc.

My Christmas crumble is made with apples dates cloves and cinnamon so has quite a Christmassy feel to it even though it isnt a traditional Xmas pudding.

YABVVVVU to not post this recipe

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 16/12/2024 17:08

@thisoldcity what about using the juice from the tinned cherries ?

I'm assuming that would be a bit syrupy and sweet? Maybe not though. I'll take a look at what the tins say. That would certainly make it easier. Thanks!

Madcats · 16/12/2024 17:46

Annamagnane, is there something special about those branded cherries or are they just in syrup? Can I use frozen ones instead and make a sauce? I have some kirsch hanging about from a boozy cherry trifle a few years back.

DD loves a rice pudding.

AnnaMagnani · 16/12/2024 17:51

You just need to make a cherry sauce. It's v easy with a tin of cherries as you heat it up, add a bit of cornflour and job done.

Jar of cherries in Kirsch is the same but nicer because, well, alcohol Grin
Am sure if you have some frozen cherries they would work equally as well. Heat up, squish them a bit, add a bit of Kirsch, maybe cornflour if you think it needs it.

MamaBanana12 · 16/12/2024 17:55

I'm just making a biscoff cheesecake because biscoff is heroin to me and that's that

StillSmallVoice · 16/12/2024 17:57

@QforCucumber is that the Bill Granger recipe? I'm doing that one this year. It's really quick and simple and tastes delicious. If you Google Bill Granger white chocolate cheesecake it will come up.

Chocdown · 16/12/2024 13:23

I’m doing a white chocolate and ginger cheesecake as a gluten and alcohol free alternative to Christmas pudding. It’s a no bake recipe that I can make ahead

We’re having this too - dd2 is newly gluten free and we all like a cheesecake

Thejugglestruggle · 16/12/2024 18:02

Christmas Pud
Chocolate and chilli mousse as I can make it the day before
Raspberry roulade

LatteLady · 16/12/2024 18:04

Bread and butter panettone pudding, and you can change it up, add candied peel and Cointreau or sandwich slices together with chocolate spread. I love it as it slips down so easily!

Patienceinshortsupply · 16/12/2024 18:10

The children have Mary Berry's easy chocolate brownies with ice cream, made the day before and warmed in the microwave.

Adults have a choice: white chocolate and raspberry trifle (ever so simple, slice a swiss roll and base a glass bowl with it, then cover in Kirsch or sloe gin and add a layer of raspberries and/or cherries.... melt a bar of white chocolate into a tub of shop bought custard, layer onto the sponge/fruit then top with whipped cream and grated white chocolate). Just assemble the night before. Or Lindt chocolate cheesecake https://www.janespatisserie.com/2019/04/27/lindt-chocolate-cheesecake/ again every so easy and made the night before.

Madickenxx · 16/12/2024 18:15

Rhubarb crumble with ice cream / double cream. Colin the caterpillar for the (grown up) kids who don't appreciate a good crumble!

Whattheduck · 16/12/2024 18:31

Christmas pudding with brandy sauce or custard
Homemade Banoffee pie
Homemade individual Sherry trifles or Raspberry trifles

rockstep · 16/12/2024 18:33

@LivLuna that sounds fantastic, do you have a recipe?
