In need of Christmas Day dessert inspo... what are you having?

Just that really.. I haven't been in the headspace for Christmas yet this year and need to get my arse together!

What is everyone else making? (Or buying, no judgement here and may still be good inspo for something to make!)

The only restrictions for us are that I detest anything lemon and most of the others aren't big on the traditional classics like Christmas cake/pudding or mince pies.

Contenders so far include pistachio tiramisu, some kind of sticky toffee Christmas pudding hybrid (reviews say non Christmas pud fans love it, or tiramisù trifle.

I'll probably make two options anyway so keen to see what others are having!

My Christmas crumble is made with apples dates cloves and cinnamon so has quite a Christmassy feel to it even though it isnt a traditional Xmas pudding.

Postbox10 · 16/12/2024 13:14

Ooh that pistachio tiramisu sounds amazing! I have a lot of chocolate lovers to cater for though so I’m making a brownie Yule log 🧑‍🎄

Chocdown · 16/12/2024 13:23

I’m doing a white chocolate and ginger cheesecake as a gluten and alcohol free alternative to Christmas pudding. It’s a no bake recipe that I can make ahead

Madcats · 16/12/2024 13:27

If you like summer pudding, make a wintery one (using a bag of frozen berries):

Otherwise Eton mess (buy the meringue to save time) or a deconstructed cheesecake.

If you have a nearby store, Cook have some pretty looking options.

Yule log.

We have the traditional danish Risalamande (basically rice pudding, with whipped cream, sugar, vanilla and chopped almonds) with cherry sauce (we also hide an almond in it, and the person who finds it gets the mandelgave- usually a marzipan pig in our house). Reminds me of being a kid!

FunnysInLaJardin · 16/12/2024 13:53

I'm making a chocolate log as usual and will make tiramisu for new year - maybe with panettone.

No one here is keen on dried fruit so we never have the traditional stuff.

Manchesterbythesea · 16/12/2024 13:54

I’m making trifle, exactly the way it was made when I was a child. There would be long faces if I didn’t make it!

Jeezitneverends · 16/12/2024 13:59

I’ve had a request for banoffee pie which I’ll do but still need another one, probably a bit chocolatey, but I’m also very tempted by to do a tiramisu

Homemade white chocolate cheesecake, I make it every year -takes 15 mins on xmas eve and now it's become an expectation!

Oooh can I get a recipe for this please

Lovemusic82 · 16/12/2024 15:44

I’m making a baked cheesecake, cutting into slices and putting different topping in each slice (or 4 different toppings) because we all like different things.

mumtotwo11 · 16/12/2024 15:47

Either Baileys or Chocolate orange cheesecake x

(I've also bought a lemon tart and ill maybe do an apple crumble too)

QforCucumber · 16/12/2024 15:55

@sweetpickle2

Thank you so much- I've been looking for an easy dessert I can make the day before for the non Christmas cake/pud/mince pie eaters, this is perfect!

White chocolate souffle with raspberry sauce. Looks fab, very easy!

woffley · 16/12/2024 16:05

Chocolate cheesecake from a recipe a friend gave me 25 years ago. It's a no bake one with a base made with crushed bourbon biscuits and butter. The top is whipped cream, icing sugar, lemon and soft cheese. I then stir in melted chocolate so it sets and cracks, and swirl on top.
I'm not allowed to do Christmas without it.

fruit salad with nice mix of fruits

Boxing Day - 15 of us
iced nougat parfait
self saucing hot chocolate pudding - Dd will make this
lemon meringue roulade
Fruit salad

all tried and much tested family favourites, the cheesecake being my mums own recipe she made up in the 70s that she made regularly for years and now I make specially for Christmas.

IngenTing · 16/12/2024 16:17

Nigella's sticky toffee pudding is incredible. I make thst often during cold winter evenings.
We usually make profiteroles on Christmas eve morning and have them for dessert on Christmas day with homemade chocolate ganache and homemade salted caramel sauce. They go down a treat!
