In need of Christmas Day dessert inspo... what are you having?

Just that really.. I haven't been in the headspace for Christmas yet this year and need to get my arse together!

What is everyone else making? (Or buying, no judgement here and may still be good inspo for something to make!)

The only restrictions for us are that I detest anything lemon and most of the others aren't big on the traditional classics like Christmas cake/pudding or mince pies.

Contenders so far include pistachio tiramisu, some kind of sticky toffee Christmas pudding hybrid (reviews say non Christmas pud fans love it, or tiramisù trifle.

I'll probably make two options anyway so keen to see what others are having!

I've also found that ris a l'amande is universally popular, including with those who have never heard of it, or claim they wouldn't eat cold rice pudding.

I use this recipe:

https://mydanishkitchen.com/2010/12/10/12-days-of-christmas-ris-a-la-mande/

If you can find a jar of cherries in kirsch, it makes the sauce amazing instead of using a tin.

It wouldn't be Xmas without it or æbleskriver (worth googling if you have never had them as they are glorious).

We have two Christmases in our house, so we get the nest of both worlds (you can keep your Xmas pudding, though, as it's awful! I have a feeling you had to have grown up with it...)

A choice of Yule log with warm black cherry compote and vanilla whipped cream, or raspberry roulade with the same.

shellyleppard · 16/12/2024 18:58

If I'm feeling lazy it will be a vienneta.....if I'm energetic I'm going to make a raspberry trifle thingy...... it's like tiramisu but with raspberries instead. The recipe is on the Olive website 🎄❄️❤️

I’m a heathen and like to make orange jelly with a tin of mandarins poured in, plus a bucket load of Cointreau so that it only just sets. Squirty cream on top, or extra thick double cream on the side. I’m not really a dessert person though.

Dark choc and marmalade pannetone bread pudding. Best dessert ever!

Nigella chocolate cherry trifle is outstanding:

This sounds lovely. Do you make your own chocolate cake for it as I don't know where you would buy nice cake?

PollyPeeves · 16/12/2024 19:21

I absolutely love the basque cheesecake from M&S.
I think I went actually went through 3 of them over the festive season last year.
(As a family, not just me 🤣)
It's one of their frozen desserts!

I've recommended this on another thread, it's fantastic isn't it.

My Christmas crumble is made with apples dates cloves and cinnamon so has quite a Christmassy feel to it even though it isnt a traditional Xmas pudding.

Sounds amazing🌟👍

Our third course is always the same. Cheese, cheese and cheese. A few grapes to cut through some of the stronger cheese.

My adult child said they'd happily give up the first two course so they could do the cheese justice. I agree.

But we go with convention (for the child's partners sake, mainly) and have the two other courses.

Budnt cake with a snow flake design in icing...haven't decided between gingerbread or orange flavour yet.

Plus panettone and mince pies.

UnhealthyCopingStrategies · 16/12/2024 20:11

Not specifically for Christmas day, but I made Nigella sticky toffee pudding this weekend and put some in the freezer, it works perfectly well.

JoJothegerbil · 16/12/2024 20:16

I make this for the non-Christmas pudding eaters every year. Goes down a treat.

Pavlova. You can't go wrong with a Pavlova.

I have bought the base from M&S. DD will enjoy adding the cream and fruit on the day.

herdiegirl · 16/12/2024 20:31

We have profiteroles here. Relatively light after roast turkey. Sherry trifle is also a classic and can be made the day before.

Ilovemyshed · 16/12/2024 20:33

Google James Martin's Winter Delice recipe

caringcarer · 16/12/2024 20:33

Same as we always have a chocolate gateau and a New York cheese cake. Most of us don't eat it after Xmas lunch but have it mid afternoon with a pot of tea.

Rowansiskin · 16/12/2024 20:43

Nigella’s Yule log here - an annual favourite!

cate16 · 16/12/2024 20:44

We're having the orange trifle type thing that was on the front of the Tesco magazine a few years ago. Always goes down well.

I'm making this for the 28th

kikisparks · 16/12/2024 21:02

We always do trifle and chocolate cake.

Whichone2024 · 16/12/2024 21:10

profiteroles :)

Waltzers · 16/12/2024 21:37

A mint chocolate ripple wreath, that's a must have for the (adult) kids. And make your own mini pavlovas, requested by the youngest who likes meringue and fruit but not cream, so everything will be on the table and they can sort themselves!
