Christmas time off. What do you get?

Just curious. Will you get a nice break off work over Christmas and new year? Do you have to use leave, is your break paid or unpaid?
I’ll be in Monday 23rd then we’re closed from the 24th through to the 6th. This is paid. I’m really looking forward to the break tbh it’s much needed. Office work here.

I get 2 full paid weeks.i break on the 20th Dec and back 7th Jan. I'm a full time sports coach and thus us the o ly time there are no sessions. The rest of my leave can be taken over the remaining 50 weeks of the year.

Combo of having to use 2 days of leave & taking some extra leave means I get 2 wks off.

This year I'm working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but then I'm off until the 2nd Jan. I'm so excited for that time off and hoping to travel to see DH in Edinburgh for a few nights as he away for 3 months currently and I miss him,

Shift work sucks at Christmas though!

None. I work for the NHS. Twelve and a half hour shift

Thanks @IDontDrinkTea ~ I've had to go to hospital with an unwell DM in an ambulance before on Christmas Day and it was a stark reminder of how much we rely on out of hours care x I hope you get to enjoy some time around the season!

I'm off 20th Dec - 6th Jan ~ though I work for a US based company so I'm sure I'll have a load of work to come back to as there's no company shut down for the period.

Got the 23rd - 29th off.

Working upto Christmas Eve then off until 8th Jan. Company have given 27th Dec, annual leave for the rest.

Christmas Eve is a bonus day off at the discretion of the Directors, doesn't come out of our allowance. We can never rely on it but never known it not be given. Usually find out a few days before hand.

Between Christmas and New Year must be taken off as the office is closed. Comes out of our entitlement.

January is the busiest month of the year and I usually end up working 14 plus hours days so while we get a nice Christmas break I would swap it for a less stressful January.

Off 21st to 6th, unpaid, term time freelance job.

Break up the Friday 20th and through until 31st. Used my own leave. I WFH though so I'm fortunate I can still have slow starts with no commute when I return.

Our office is closed between Christmas and NY, and we cover it with annual leave. So everyone is off from end of 24th to 2nd (3rd for our Scottish offices). DH and I usually take more to cover school hols.

This year I have Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day - back in on 27/12. Small team and we have to have a certain number in each day. Christmas Eve was my first preference for leave days so no complaints from me.

Big thanks to those working the bank holidays to keep things running for the rest of us - may your shifts be unremarkable and finish on time.

Then managed annual leave for week after wooo

DH - shutdown from lunchtime on the 24th to the 2nd Jan.
DD1 - same.

Me in education so 2 weeks off.

DD2 working in NHS (clinic) so working full day on the 24th, off on the 25th and 26th and has taken an extra day of annual leave so would be back in on 30th, except she's leaving and moving onto another job so Christmas week will be the last week of her notice period.

We are closed from Christmas Day and back on Friday the 3rd for one day!

Alternative provision. Can only take holidays outside of term timeline but get 35 days not the usual off for 13 weeks. The bit in the middle is enforced leave out of our allowance. Back on the 3rd for training.

I work in an office and I get the bank holidays. If I want anything more I can take it as AL.

Anyone who is in on Chr Eve usually gets to go home at 1pm if clear. I used to take Chr eve off as I like to prep (not been in this role long) but I’ve decided not to use a whole day’s AL for a half day in effect.

We don't shut down (criminal justice) but this year for the first time since mat leave I am off from the 24th until the 31st back in the NYE then off 1st and 2nd. I have to use annual leave.

Off from the 20th Dec - 6th Jan, using 3 days holiday.

I work in education recruitment, we do full company shut down for the Christmas break every year. I’ll need to login from home very very occasionally to do some operational stuff but at least it can be in my comfies!

I'm off Dec 19th-Jan 5th this year, will need to use 8 days annual leave and 1 day flex, rest are weekends and bank holidays. It's not a public facing role so don't have to worry about cover etc. I've worked for a couple of universities that shut down between Xmas and NY, we didn't have to use annual leave but apparently it was factored into our pay. I've rarely worked in the in between bit in my career, and never worked on Xmas Eve or any of the BHs. DH has a career that can require it but thankfully it's only happened the once.

Finish on the 19th and back on the 7th. I'm part time and using 3 days annual leave..cannot wait.

Dh literally has 25th off thats it (he's NHS), I work on a school so I'm off for two weeks.

25/26 and this year I think we are getting NYD although thats not confirmed as yet

We get the bank holidays (25/26th and 1st/2nd) then we have to have cover the rest of the time split amongst the team. This year I’m working Christmas Eve then between 25th Dec and 5th Jan I’m working for 2 days and off the rest. Hoping for quiet catch up time at work.

Education. Fin 13th Dec back 7th Jan. Can't wait.
