Just curious. Will you get a nice break off work over Christmas and new year? Do you have to use leave, is your break paid or unpaid?
I’ll be in Monday 23rd then we’re closed from the 24th through to the 6th. This is paid. I’m really looking forward to the break tbh it’s much needed. Office work here.

I finish on 23rd Dec and back on 3rd Jan. Having to use 1 day annual leave for that, rest is a mix of bonus leave and bank holidays.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 26/11/2024 22:34

I work in the emergency services so it's business as usual for us.
im actually off on my rostered days off for Christmas this year; I've got 7pm x 7am nights on Xmas Eve so that will be nice to go home straight into Christmas

ImageMirror · 26/11/2024 22:35

Off on 24th and 25th then back in Boxing Day. Im a community nurse and love working Xmas day but not fair on my DS to do it every year. i REALLY miss breaking up for Christmas though and would love to go away for Christmas but it’s impossible in my current job

SabreIsMyFave · 26/11/2024 22:40

I am off from Friday 20th December to Thursday 2nd January. 2 weeks off. Smile

A mix of a few days of annual leave, and some days I have off anyway as I work part time, and 3 bank holidays.

White collar work. (Work from home.)

Cece92 · 26/11/2024 22:46

Get Xmas day and Boxing Day. I have taken the week off using 3 days annual leave xx

coldscottishmum · 26/11/2024 22:47

working all throughout Christmas and new year but I will spend Christmas morning and evening with my children. Nightshift from 7:30pm Christmas night through to 6am boxing day.
I’m a paramedic.

fourelementary · 26/11/2024 22:50

Another nurse working most of Xmas week. Off this year on the day itself but working the other days plus the weekend and New Year’s Day!

Thankfully I love my work though and last year worked Xmas day and actually visited some extra patients who we knew would be alone otherwise. ❤️🎅🏼

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 26/11/2024 23:17

I always book off Boxing Day as we have an extended family day also it’s special service on the buses and I don’t fancy waiting ages for a bus after work.
as I work in delivery (stockroom) department, the schedule has just been released. There are no delivery’s Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Off Christmas Day for sure, won’t know about Christmas Eve until 23rd, depending if we have anything left over. I only work 8-12 so no skin off my back if I have to work Christmas Eve, I have done the last 17 except for 2020.

New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and the day after I have no delivery’s however it depends how much I’ve got left. I’m hoping for New Year’s Day off as I have to be up at 6 if I work, don’t fancy that after seeing in the new year. I’ve had the last 5 off so fingers crossed 😅I don’t work Sundays, so most likely will be off more than at work them 2 weeks which suits me fine 😜

coxesorangepippin · 27/11/2024 02:59

I'm using six ( 😲 ) vacation days this Christmas

Finish Fri Dec 20, back Monday 6th

I cannot wait

ratatattatochristmascat · 27/11/2024 03:49

I’m off from 19th - 2nd. I can’t wait. We’re all so exhausted. 😌

garlictwist · 27/11/2024 03:52

We close on Xmas eve and reopen on the 2 Jan (university). We don't have to use annual leave.

Passwordsaremynemesis · 27/11/2024 04:01

I finish up on the 19th, back on Jan 6th using 3 or 4 days leave, can’t remember. I love the Xmas shut down as it’s summer here so nice and hot, bring it on!😁

Needamagicfairy · 27/11/2024 04:13

Bank holidays only so christmas and boxing day off. Social services job

Digisquidgy · 27/11/2024 06:29

agricultural setting here. We get CD, BD and 27th this year plus first and second January. I have also taken Christmas Eve off as we don’t get an early finish. If we do it’s way after 4 and I just can’t be bothered.

Twilightstarbright · 27/11/2024 06:40

Office role. We are flying for some winter sun on 31/12 so I’m working 23,24,27,30. Work will be quiet and DS’s sport does a holiday club 11-3 so I’ll wfh and he will chill/watch tv around it. Work is quiet then and family are all local so I’ve never seen the need to take loads of time off around then.

Meadowfinch · 27/11/2024 06:43

We get the basic. Xmas day, Boxing day and New Year's Day. Everything else is taken as annual leave.

I'm packing up at 5pm on the 20th and going back on the 2nd so I shall have nearly two weeks off - bliss 😊

softkittywarmkittylittleballoffur · 27/11/2024 06:45

It depends each year. This year I’m off from 15th December to 2nd January. Next year I probably won’t have much time off, 24th,25th and 26th only

EveryDayisFriday · 27/11/2024 06:51

Finish on 19th, Xmas boozy lunch to drunken night out on 20th, business shut down until 6th.
The kids and DH are off at the same time too. I really appreciate it after working in retail for years.

MustBeGinOclock · 26/11/2024 22:30

Education. Fin 13th Dec back 7th Jan. Can't wait.

Do you work at a university? That's a long time off.

21st to 6th.Secondary school

Tumbleweed101 · 27/11/2024 07:23

We’re closed from Christmas Eve until 2nd Jan. Have to use our holiday allowance to cover it.

Work in a nursery.

BitOutOfPractice · 27/11/2024 07:28

I work for myself so, in theory, as much as I like.

in reality that means I’ll break to on Christmas Eve, I’ll do some bits between Christmas and NY and be back at my desk on 2 January.

DP suggested last night I take 2 and 3 January off as well. I was amazed at the idea - it hadn’t crossed my mind!! 😬

stuffnthings · 27/11/2024 07:32

Only Christmas Day, Boxing Day and NYD, working the rest. Office type role but work for a global corporation, which runs 24/7, they don't have any shutdown periods.

DanielaDressen · 27/11/2024 07:34

Close on xmas eve and back on the 3rd, paid for the break and don't have to take annual leave. Big perk of the job to be honest.
