Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

magicshop.co.uk/products/wonder-fool-box

These look better as you can see the gift, you just can't get it!

Does anyone have any experience with Amazon wish lists? Sent my DC's to aunt and GPs on Friday as both were keen to cash in on black Friday deals, my kids have asked for things which have big price drops. 99% certain both would've been very inclined to just open the list and click and buy as they are the type to just want it out the way. However, I now need to send to a different relative and despite looking at "purchased" nothing has been removed. I have had this before and then received duplicates (3x over and I now have 3 kids!!) so I'm slightly worried the same will happen..

Anyone know what the 25% off code actually works on for Nike? It won’t apply for any of the trainers I’m adding to basket

It worked on golf shoes for me. I think your order total needs to be over £50. There are some good reductions on golf shoes on there, the pair I got were down from almost £130 to £80 something. With the 25% code they were £60.

There is also 10% TopCashback on Nike today, it tracked within half an hour. Plus free delivery if you're a member.

The problem is that they need to add to basket from the wish list. If they click on the item and then add to basket, it doesn’t come off. Hope that makes sense!

@chocolateisavegetable oh no

Does anyone know if Lego do any offers please? I'm wanting the sonic brick headz and possibly a sonic set as well.
Thanks!

Anyone hit any ideas of what to buy the staff in my dads care home - my normal default would be biscuits/chocolates/cakes but the staff gave access to all this every day so I don't think would be appreciated.

Also a lot of staff look after my dad not just one or two so I'm really stuck!

If the Deans hamper comes back into stock that might do the trick?
Or make up a box of nice treats like cheese and crackers, pate, Italian deli meats, nice biscuits, shower/appletise, quality tea, coffee, hot chocolate and some lovely tablet, chocolates. Let's them have a festive lunch on you!

Tomorrowisyesterday · 24/11/2024 19:32

Ds has finally told me what he'd like and it's a tv 🤦🏼‍♀️ That's a proper Black Friday one!

handmademitlove · 24/11/2024 19:33

@YeahWellWhyNot on my lists it has a box with number requested - when someone buys from it, it will say "Needs 1, has 1" or similar. It doesn't actually take it off the list but there is a tick box in "manage list" which you can deselect so when bought the item is removed. It is not set automatically.

Thank you! I’ve managed to get it working now…. Realised I was typing in GOBIG2024 instead of GOBIG24 😂🙈 think my brain is broke!

Amazing deal though - managed to get DS(13) mens air force 1 in black and white for £57.74 and free delivery & did use top cashback so hopefully that tracks too

WimbyAce · 24/11/2024 19:54

A bit niche but for tennis fans there are some reductions on the Wimbledon Shop website. Also I found a code AELTCCOMMUNITY15 which gives you an extra 15% off.

hugsandpugs · 24/11/2024 20:00

Great deal on pooch & mutt. The advent calendar and then you get to choose 2 free gifts (choice of beanie hats/dog treats) and it works out £4.35! Then just £1.99 postage so £6.34 for it all

Does anyone have a spare Argos voucher for a small spend please? Spending around £45

Papillon1 · 24/11/2024 20:07

I didn’t manage to get the things I wanted on Nike to reduce with the code but Foot Locker had some good reductions on Nike trainers and tech fleeces. There’s 6% cashback through TopCashback too.

Justkeepsmilingx · 24/11/2024 20:08

Lazza24 · 24/11/2024 14:26

I took too long deciding on the shortbread hamper and now it’s out of stock!!

can anyone help with free delivery on Pandora? I need to order a charm and it’s already discounted so it won’t accept any of the codes I’ve used. I really begrudge paying so much postage for something so tiny!!!

You can usually collect from store free if you live nearby

Not eligible on the air max mine wants or tech fleece joggers - will keep looking!

Bit last minute but £10 off a £100 spend at Argos, expires at Midnight.

Just played about with this and worked out the code and free gifts work even with a tennis ball 👏☺️ so managed to get the ball for £1.30 and then the beanie hat and treats for free. £1.99 delivery so £3.29 overall 🙏🤩

@NNotlongnow1 I used coolshop recently and posed the same question here. A few people had used them and I have since ordered from them. Came quickly and was a genuine product.

Iwanttoputmytreeup · 24/11/2024 20:20

@GoodIsGoodEnough
You could use the Laithwaites offer to get 2 x Cheese, wine and chutney hampers foreground £40......spend £80 and get £40 off not including champagne I think....so you'd get another £40 of stuff for free to keep or gift...

Switch Sports party is now £4.49 on the Nintendo Eshop, £24.99 on Amazon. Bought this evening from wish list and appears to be incredible entertainment for teenagers.

Turtleoo · 24/11/2024 20:44

@YeahWellWhyNot re Amazon wish lists, I find mine are often set by default to show all items even if purchased, to not spoil any surprises. If you click the 3 dots to the right of the list name when you have it open, you can check what the settings are, and change to show unpurchased only. This might be your issue?

AndThereSheGoes · 24/11/2024 20:45

@dcadmamagain tricky isn't it. I think the staff would prefer a cash bonus to food. Is there any way to get the management to set something up?
I think hampers sound like trouble. When are people going to get to eat stuff? From experience nothing is worse than a load of half eaten cheese and chutney, often left out for hours in warm room for people to help themselves.
Individual cans of something festive perhaps for staff to grab? Cinnamon coke that sort of thing.
Or at work we had mini smelly candles in a tin at a training day. They were nice and coukd be regifted if not to ones taste.
