Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Can anyone give me advice on heelys? More around sizing - thinking of maybe getting on vinted rather than new as not sure whether they'll get any use but TV adverts have got to DS2

STom2 · 24/11/2024 17:02

IlovePond · 24/11/2024 16:57

I think they’d make great gifts for nursery staff @STom2 . It’s probably better in that case for everything to be in packets, so they can open and share, (rather than perhaps several people all wanting one of the lovely tins 😹)

You could put the packets in one of those Xmas gift boxes with a bit of ‘straw’ - I think I saw some in Aldi or Lidl recently.

Alternately, you could get some nice biscuits and chocolates from M&S, (as not everyone likes shortbread).

Very good point on it being easier not having the lovely tins options 😂

@MidnightMilkman I love gifting these creative/destructive little project books: Wreck This Journal and Wreck This Journal Everywhere for caravan holidays/time away in limited space, long journey distractions etc. They are remarkably entertaining but require very few 'extras' to accompany them. You could perhaps add a small pack of pencils.

If they have a garden at their old house or you're likely to be out and about, the Everywhere version might suit you as there are a few more outdoorsy prompts, but either is fab. I have added Amazon links for ease (and free Prime delivery) but Hive and plenty of other online booksellers stock them too.

I know lots of people love Stanley cups - I treated myself to a Owa l a cup for the car in BF from Amazon - it arrived today and I'm a little in love

cheesychipsontheoche · 24/11/2024 17:29

Quidco are doing a bonus £15 on Nike (you have to opt in) and 8% cashback and Nike have 25% off their Black Friday deals with code GOBIG24
My kids had asked for trainers so that was a really decent discount and if the cashback tracks that'll be another nice chunk off too.

mrsanflowerpot · 24/11/2024 17:30

Is anyone else having trouble with John Lewis? I'm desperately trying to use my £5 reward (grumpy that I didn't get the £10 beauty one!), but the app just won't load my basket.

A pretty poor offer as you don't get avios or cashback through the APP

Wonderfulstuff · 24/11/2024 17:33

Does anyone have any bright ideas please?

Need to buy DH a gym bag... will need to house both gym kit and swimming stuff and towels along with wash bag. If it has a wet compartment that would be helpful but not essential. I don't like to order from Sports Direct but would welcome any suggestions based on experience please. Don't want to spend a fortune c.£25? Or is that too low? Thanks!

M&mdirect has a decent selection of holdalls - my son uses one of the puma ones for his karate gear

Yes! Apparently they are having issues & trying to resolve it.

I placed my order via a desktop instead, they worked fine .

IlovePond · 24/11/2024 16:45

@MerylSqueak - thanks for the bargain info. How are you getting the Ok a/c for £90? It’s still showing full price for me.

Thanks

It came intheir newsletter email. I seem to get one every day so maybe worth signin̈g up.

dcadmamagain · 24/11/2024 17:53

Anyone hit any ideas of what to buy the staff in my dads care home - my normal default would be biscuits/chocolates/cakes but the staff gave access to all this every day so I don't think would be appreciated.

Also a lot of staff look after my dad not just one or two so I'm really stuck!

Decathlon and Mountain Warehouse both have a decent choice at that price point - branded and unbranded depending on what he prefers

GoodIsGoodEnough · 24/11/2024 18:03

Looking for gift ideas for in-laws around the £10-20 mark as they're divorced so it's x2!

Any help appreciated as I am drawing a blank.

TheGriffle · 24/11/2024 18:30

Has anyone ever ordered from PLouise? I’m sure I’ve seen it mentioned on here.
My order has just been delivered and it’s all sealed in a gorgeous box that I would have to use the rip tab to open it, which I’d rather not do if I can help it, can anyone please confirm if there’s any receipt/invoice inside the box or am I safe to gift intact?

hugsandpugs · 24/11/2024 18:31

Anyone know what the 25% off code actually works on for Nike? It won’t apply for any of the trainers I’m adding to basket

xmasdealhunter · 24/11/2024 18:34

@dcadmamagain V&A Tea Selection, 6x 6g Selection box of different teas?

I opened the box as I was splitting the items and there wasn't any paperwork inside.

What about something like this? My mum got the kids a similar thing with £20 in it last year and it took them ages to crack it. You had to hit a certain spot and twist at the same time. Only you could see the £20 on the one she got through a clear panel. I can't find anything more similar

bairnk · 24/11/2024 18:58

I got a PLouise order last week too- the box it comes in is gorgoeous! There was no paper work inside. I saw on another group a few people saying they carefully prised it open with a knife then it still stuck back down so that's always an option if you want to check everything is there that should be!

Jinxjacobs · 24/11/2024 19:02

I hope this is useful to somebody, I love my silentnight squishy pillow, so bought two silentnight squishy body pillows from la redoute for £22 each - they are huge, size of a double bed bolster and can be folded as v pillow or used as a body pillow. Have a super soft, washable cover, so a massive squishmallow experience. I was lucky and got free delivery on the day but there are usually offers floating about on la redoute.
