Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Does anyone have a Lakeland voucher they wouldn’t mind PMing please? My sister in-law is struggling to heat her home so I thought I’d buy her an early pressie of a heated throw but they are still slight out of if budget even with the sale!
xx

Dreamingofwalden · 24/11/2024 12:44

@Summerdew Any tips on White Fox sizing? And everyone else. I would like to buy for my teen nieces. Size 8-10? Should I be going for XS?

I’d say DD is a size 4-6 and I’ve got xxs/xs for her but I’m a 12 and it fits me nicely but not oversized on me really so yes I’d go for xs. Some are more oversized than others will say in the description.

LostMyRubySlippers · 24/11/2024 14:42

Yeah I’ve missed the shortbread too! Got my 10% code through and just gone back on to order but it’s out of stock. Have set an alert to see it comes back in/ offer a new BF bundle..

Lidl have Silentnight ones for £24.99 - just came in stock today

Vimaybe · 24/11/2024 14:50

@NewLamp Hotel Chocolat are definitely the most decadent, plus if you're unsure on flavours they do a lovely selection box. I believe they had a code on recently but it was associated with a £30+ spend. If you want more bargainous luxury, I really like the M&S extra dark flakes for a fiver.

polkadotchristmas · 24/11/2024 14:55

Anyone got a marks and Spencer code ? Nothing in sparks and spending £100 feels all kinds of wrong

Twinsandsome · 24/11/2024 15:24

If anyone sees urban outfitters doing the £10 off Stanley’s again anytime soon please would you tag me I had it in basket ready to check out and got distracted the other night and missed it thank you in advance x

Lazza24 · 24/11/2024 15:34

@Twinsandsome John Lewis have some Stanley cups currently reduced to £36. Think today is last day of that offer.

IlovePond · 24/11/2024 15:35

@juicyjellybaby - my advice would be not to buy these ‘fake’ charms, (unless only paying a couple of quid for them), because they are not usually good quality and tend to look pretty awful very quickly.

I appreciate your DD may have set her heart on particular ones that look lovely onscreen, but perhaps you could steer her towards the Pandora site instead. They currently have sterling silver charms from £16:

https://uk.pandora.net/en/black-friday/?pmid=EarlyAccessNewArrivals%7CExclusiveEditions&pmpt=qualifying&prefn1=primaryCategory&prefv1=Charms&srule=price-low-to-high&start=0&sz=20

(There is one for £14, but just realised that one spells ‘Super Mum’!)

IlovePond · 24/11/2024 15:52

Just been to Lidl. Couldn’t get there this morning as all our fences have blown down and DH was trying to effect an emergency repair, whilst DDog was simultaneously making a bid for freedom 🙀

I visited early pm, but no heated blankets in sight and very little left by way of Xmas clothing.

I managed to get Xmas socks and underwear for DH, Xmas pjs for oldest adult DS, (he’ll only wear the bottoms as they are tartan, but I am adding the Santa body top to my own large collection of unnecessary Xmas attire).

On a related note: I have no idea why I have come home with a Santa’s elf dress in a too large size 🙈

They had lots of the men’s and women’s walking boots and of the oversized hooded blankets, plus a nice Xmas throw.

In Aldi, there were lots of Xmas candles, wrapping paper and decorations in SpecialBuys.

They also had the cleansing balm, the setting spray and the Lip Stick, also all in SpecialBuys.

JamJarBinx · 24/11/2024 15:57

Thank you everyone for all the ideas! She's very particular when it comes to food, and the photo frame would have been lovely but she doesn't have WiFi and doesn't use technology. DH hasn't sorted any of his family's christmas presents in the 10 years we've been together! Every year I say I'm not going to do it and the end up doing it anyway, this year I've even sorted my own presents! In the end we went off the suggestion of something personalised and have ordered a planter with each of the great grandchildren names and birth flowers so thank you so much h everyone!

ChristmasJumperz · 24/11/2024 16:05

Fahlo is doing buy 3 bracelets get a third off so essentially 3 for 2 if any use to anyone? I only want one and would prefer a free delivery offer but nevermind!

Also, thanks to those who have mentioned Qwertee before. They currently have half price prints so £4. I believe it's £3 p&p. I like this bands poster https://www.qwertee.com/shop/prints/bands-poster they also have spiderman, Dr who and star wars among others. I think the half price offer ends tonight.

IlovePond · 24/11/2024 16:16

Some brands at Sephora have 25% off, and there are also some deeper discounts via ‘flash sales’.

This weekend only.

TheresNoTelescreen · 24/11/2024 16:30

Abakhan fabrics have £10 off a £30 spend with code 10OFF30 until midnight tonight.

redjoker · 24/11/2024 08:04

I just took a look at the shortbread hampers on the deans website. I cant get over how good value they are?

And free delivery over 20 quid? Going to get one and split for office gifts. Seems slightly criminal!

Debating one of the hampers as a gift for the school nursery teachers. Most people seem to mention splitting them up as different gifts. Am I right in thinking it comes in a standard brown box?

IlovePond · 24/11/2024 16:36

The BF hamper is OOS @STom2 but my understanding is it comes in a plain box. I think ‘hamper’ is a bit misleading!

I meant to buy it, but was too slow! The others look good, but not quite as bargainous!

Anyone know if fat face do Black Friday or discount codes? I have a basket full of stuff but don’t want to miss out on any offers!

IVFmumoftwo · 24/11/2024 13:50

Thanks for this. Cheaper than last week! My two year old loves water.

It actually makes a nice little froth on the water like a tea coffee ! Mine love it

IlovePond · 24/11/2024 16:45

@MerylSqueak - thanks for the bargain info. How are you getting the Ok a/c for £90? It’s still showing full price for me.

Thanks

Yep I was working my way through today's posts and got to the Black Friday one and tried to purchase 😂I'm a few hours behind. I'm not familiar with Deans but the lovely people on these threads seem to rate them!

I could still go for one of the festive ones, but appreciate they don't have the lovely tins. Would this be an appropriate gift for school nursery? Figure I could wrap it so the presentation is a little more festive 😂 Then they could pick what they want. I am unsure how many TAs are there so I'm reluctant to get individual gifts (like coffee vouchers) in case I miss people. 🫠

If anyone has any better suggestions for school nursery teacher gifts these are totally welcomed! Budget is £30.

IlovePond · 24/11/2024 16:57

I think they’d make great gifts for nursery staff @STom2 . It’s probably better in that case for everything to be in packets, so they can open and share, (rather than perhaps several people all wanting one of the lovely tins 😹)

You could put the packets in one of those Xmas gift boxes with a bit of ‘straw’ - I think I saw some in Aldi or Lidl recently.

Alternately, you could get some nice biscuits and chocolates from M&S, (as not everyone likes shortbread).
