Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Are there ever bargains on crimpits? I can only find buy one get one free offers - but I don't need two?!

If it helps, I sold two on Vinted and they went within minutes for only a pound under what they'd cost me. (I added two to my basket and ended up with 4!)

@MidnightMilkman when we went on holiday this year, we bought my daughters Polly pockets (eldest is 7, nearly 8) and they were such a good idea! A little world with all sorts of imaginative play possibilities and plenty small enough to take home in the suitcase. We also bought some colouring books and cheap pencils which we thought we could throw away when we were leaving, but again, they were actually small enough to slip into their suitcases too. The monkey one someone posted recently looked really lovely and a bargain! I almost bought it for my daughter even though she’s just had some new ones!

Agreed. My son has a Polly Pocket we always take to our caravan and he loves it. Plays with it for ages. I would also suggest a couple of magazines with cool toys or activities on the front. They will keep her busy but the magazines can be left behind when they leave. Tegu pocket magnetics are cool too or there's currently a Picasso set to be found in TK Maxx. Also these little tins are cool. Apples to Pears Magical Fairy Fun In A Tin : Amazon.co.uk: Toys & Games

I bought this bath bomb bundle on tik tok shop for £19.50. (Normally 20.50 but i had a voucher pop up) They do a boys or girls selection. Not every box is the same but they'll be similar.

@MadameBethune if you PM me I have a Lakeland code. My phone screen is broken and I'm struggling to search for you.

Dreamingofwalden · 24/11/2024 13:04

@MidnightMilkman bath bombs and bits like that would also be fun. And things like hot chocolate kits or make up a Christmas movie treat box with a DVD or voucher and some snacks?

Louloulou123 · 24/11/2024 13:14

Hiya has anyone got voucher for money off Argos or knows how I can get one?? I started a new account but didn’t get emailed any offers! Need to spend £300 so would really appreciate some discount! 🙏🏻

BeaLola · 24/11/2024 13:18

For those looking for Paco Rabane Millionaire not sure if it's cheaper than elsewhere but John Lewis had various offers on Paco

I don't remember much from last year, apart from free delivery on all hampers for a couple of days. I did find this online though so it seems something should be happening on 29th November.

Oh, just to add that they are also on Topcashback. Currently 4% for online orders.

I don’t know if it’s helpful, but my grandma always loved a year’s subscription to Yours magazine.

Can anyone suggest one of those wrist wrap things that are magnetic to hold things for DIY or where I might get an interesting Kindle paperwhite case that’s a bit different?

thanks

Yalz · 24/11/2024 13:25

Just be careful if you order from even reputable companies online, and check your bank statement afterwards. I made an order last month: I received two acknowledgements but as they had the same order number and were for the same amount I thought little of it. My bank statement shows that I was charged twice.

I’ve no reason to think it wasn’t a simple mistake and they won’t correct it quickly now I’ve pointed it out, but their auto reply says “We aim to respond to emails as soon as possible - usually within 5 working days” so it could be another week which might be awkward for someone on a restricted budget.

Edited to remove the name of the company in this case.

I like these Kindle cases KleverCase - Etsy UK you can find them on NOTH but I think will be cheaper on Etsy. You may need to compare depending on the design as some are reduced on NOTHS. Luxury Faux Leather Kindle And eReader Book Covers By KleverCase

Well yes, I was a victim of this a few years ago 😂
The actual company definitely exist, and posters on here have received an order already, so I am a bit more confident this time!

If you mean Dean’s, they are a 50 year old U.K. based business in good standing, so personally I have absolutely zero concerns.

ChristmasJumperz · 24/11/2024 13:41

Thank you to everyone who replied about the frozen sweets, a big help. I will hopefully get hold of some next week.

I have lost the ability to find the poster who wanted a gift for Grandma who didn't want anything but I saw this company on another thread, would they appreciate something like a gift that helps others? There's lots of choice I am thinking of gifting the advent calendar for similar situation https://www.goodgifts.org/red-advent-calendar

Usernamepleasework · 24/11/2024 13:43

Proud of my latest bargain.
Got a email from Ritual with a free birthday gift (300ml hand wash) logged on to website and also had a free 200ml shower gel just had to purchase something to get them so went to the outlet section and got a deodorant for £4.75 delivery was £3.90.

So for £8.65 got a 300ml hand wash 200ml shower gel and 50ml deodorant delivered full price would have been £33.60.
Bargain.

Scout2016 · 24/11/2024 13:47

For those in the know about socks for very swollen legs, are the Gentle Grip or Soft Tops a better gift please? My gran and FIL both suffer from this so it's a great help, thanks to PPs for suggesting them.

Does anyone want to swap an Argos voucher? I’ve got £5 off £40 spend but was hoping for more as spending nearly £300😫

I have £10 off £100 if that works for you?

My favourite are hotel chocolat especially the salted caramel

Lazza24 · 24/11/2024 14:26

I took too long deciding on the shortbread hamper and now it’s out of stock!!

can anyone help with free delivery on Pandora? I need to order a charm and it’s already discounted so it won’t accept any of the codes I’ve used. I really begrudge paying so much postage for something so tiny!!!

NotAdultingToday · 24/11/2024 14:28

@OatFlatWhiteForMePlease i ordered a cuddle cushion from OHS and had no problems I ordered on the 18th Nov and it was delivered on 20th/21st (i have lost track of days!)
