Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@Carrie76 thank you!

Does anyone want to swap an Argos voucher? I’ve got £5 off £40 spend but was hoping for more as spending nearly £300😫

All the deans people, can I ask how quickly yours was dispatched please? I ordered last week but no sign of a dispatch email as yet. Maybe they’re just busy but just checking!

On their website it says all hampers will be dispatched after December 1st, unless you email to say you want it sent sooner. Might that be what's happened?

Thelifeofawife · 24/11/2024 11:15

@motheronthedancefloor @mumsm Boots, Superdrug and the Fragrance shop/Perfume shop tend to have 20% off around this time.
I think the cheapest the last 2 years was Boots around Black Friday

TheGriffle · 24/11/2024 11:23

@ILookingLikeABeautifulDay it says 5-7 working days for dispatch when I’ve just ordered so depending when you bought would they be in that timeframe still? Also it says if you ordered a Christmas hamper your whole order would be dispatched together from Dec 1st.

Does anyone have any ideas for presenting concert tickets please?

I’ve done the scratch panel cards before and I’ve also done the wrapping the tickets in lots of boxes, and also attaching it to a helium balloon, and now I’m out of ideas 😂

How about a tshirt or hoodie they could wear to it?

I've done a metal engraved ticket from etsy in the past which then can be displayed or used as a bookmark.

I did a themed box for a cover taylor swift concert we went to for dd2. Pin badge, stickers, tshirt, "midnight" body spray, red lipstick, bracelets.

VolcanicProtectorMan · 24/11/2024 11:36

Thanks all for the Moana ideas! I had to buy for two girls, one 2 and one 5. So I went for the busy book for the older one and whilst in The Works buying that there was a peekaboo book for the little one for £5 so I chucked in some sparkly bath ducks!

supersun23 · 24/11/2024 11:39

What is the Dean's shortbread offer? I can't seem to find it?

I ordered last week, then emailed to request earlier dispatch. They said they would try but have had unexpectedly high order requests so couldn't give a date as yet. Must say were very quick to reply.

LostMyRubySlippers · 24/11/2024 11:39

Those ordering the shortbread, how quickly did you get your 10% off code through? Signed up to mailing list but no code as yet….

motheronthedancefloor · 23/11/2024 20:29

any good deals / prices on paco rabanne millionaire aftershave which I think is the one my DH likes.

I bought the gift set from John Lewis a week or so ago as it seemed the best deal at the time - as it was over £50 was free delivery. Not sure if they still have it on but worth looking x

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/11/2024 11:51

@MerylSqueak how did you get the blockbuster in your basket? It's not appearing for me

Within 5 minutes but it went to my junk mail.

UntamedShrew · 24/11/2024 12:09

I forgot just how helpfully brilliant these threads are - thank you for all the ideas. I was feeling a bit panicked by the whole prospect and now I’ve got a few things ordered already thanks to you lot!

I have ordered:
the Celtic & Co gloves with £25 off for MIL
the M&S PJs for DD
crocs for DSs
and some nice stationery from Papier.
Will probably get the shortbread later too 😊

A niche one but if anyone has got a mini printer that does stickers and is a good one let me know? for school sketches and photos mainly… I don’t want to buy something that will fall apart but don’t want to spend a fortune either!

Frankinator · 24/11/2024 12:11

Does anyone know if Tom's Trunks tend to do anything for Black Friday?

I just clicked through from the emai, sorry. You could try signing up?

thereisamouseinthehouse · 24/11/2024 12:17

Those looking to buy cheaper presents for 4-6yr olds, Amazon have discounts on the Usborne sticker dressing books which kept both my DD and my DS occupied for hours so they're about £5.50 each; the ravens burger memory matching games are about £4 and ravensburger jigsaws (including Moana & Bluey) are about £5 or £6 for those packs of three jigsaws

TimPat · 24/11/2024 12:22

Thanks for the Dean's offer. Brilliant value even their hampers that aren't on offer are a great price. That's my last outstanding present for my auntie ticked off.

I did an order when Deans was first mentioned and it said in their blurb that it can take up to 5 days for packing and then goes out for delivery. Mine definitely took longer than a week to reach me, closer to two?

Edited to add: The order I did just now said 5-7 days at checkout, and Dec 1st in the hamper info so I’ll be looking out for my delivery for the next three weeks 😅

IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile · 24/11/2024 12:38

Dock and Bays black Friday sale has started. I have just bought 5 of their amazing quick dry hair wraps, less than £5 each.

juicyjellybaby · 24/11/2024 12:42

Has anyone bought the fake Pandora charms from eBay/vinted? My daughter has showed me a photo of a few she likes but for £15 each I am worried they will go green or something

Dreamingofwalden · 24/11/2024 12:44

@Summerdew Any tips on White Fox sizing? And everyone else. I would like to buy for my teen nieces. Size 8-10? Should I be going for XS?
