Cheesy “Guilty pleasure” Christmas films 2024

What Hallmark style Christmas films have you watched so far?

Channel 5 is showing them consistently now, and i’ve had the channels “Great Christmas” and “Christmas 24” on, non stop.

I watched “Christmas in Wolf Creek” the other day, it was on Christmas 24. Painfully cheesy story about a hot rancher and his girlfriend trying to make it work when they want different things. Throw in a runaway reindeer and the threat of the Town Christmas pageant not going ahead and you had a gripping storyline.

“Hot Frosty” which is new to Netflix is on my list, starring the Hallmark Queen of Christmas herself, Lacey Chabert.

PS - Why is she Christmassing on Netflix when she’s Hallmark royalty?

I love Muppets Christmas Carol - watch it every year. And Scrooged. Love those. (And Bad Santa but that’s not cheesy so much, lol)

TheYearOfSmallThings · 14/11/2024 23:22

Christmas in Wolf Creek is a brave title Shock

Muppet Christmas Carol,
Home Alone 1&2.
A Christmas Carol (George C Scott version)
Murder on the Orient Express (1974) which I know isn't a Christmas film but I saw it for the first time on Christmas Eve years ago, so it always reminds me of Christmas, plus the snowy scenes in the film help a bit!
The Holiday
National Lampoon's Christmas vacation

That's a start, I'm sure there's more...

CandyCane457 · 15/11/2024 12:52

I’ve also been watching all the ch5 ones! Have to admit I can never remember their names as they all roll into one, Christmas at the Cottage, Hometown Christmas, A Very Country Christmas… bloody love them all!
As long as there’s a corporate lawyer returning to her hometown, a widower, a baking contest or a family inn being shut down… I’m invested!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 15/11/2024 12:58

I really like love actually. I know bits of it are problematic but I see straight past it.
Muppet Christmas carol
Grumpy old women at Christmas

We watched something on Netflix called a Christmas miracle for Daisy .. it was cheesy but we loved it actually 🤣

OliviaRodrighost · 15/11/2024 12:59

I’m Scottish so I love any of the ones set in the Highlands etc. There was one last year I watched (with Lacey Chabert 😂😂) called A Merry Scottish Christmas which didn’t disappoint! Very silly, but gorgeous to look at. And I don’t just mean Scott Wolf 😍

AHFBridport · 15/11/2024 13:00

I am laughing at Christmas in Wolf Creek - did they not think about googling the name of their fictitious heart warming town? Next year - Santa on Elm Street.

yutulin · 15/11/2024 13:02

I love The Perfect Christmas Village, channel 5 plays it every year. It's awful, and brilliant. Love the concept! (Christmas obsessed woman gets sucked into her Christmas village display and it's Christmas everyday, spoiler: there's a dark handsome friend she's overlooked for years...)

SwedishHills · 15/11/2024 13:02

Love all the channel 5 ones. Can't remember any of the names.

Beautifulsunflowers · 15/11/2024 13:06

My fave is last Christmas - I'm saving it for an afternoon when I know I won't be interrupted, and when I have a box of minI stollen and mulled wine to snack on!

BrieAndChilli · 15/11/2024 13:40

I bloody love a cheesy christmas film. DH thinks its ridiculous but I love the predictability and silliness of them. Something comforting about them. I think as Mums we have soooo much going on in the lead up to christmas its nice to have some escapism into a town where everything is cheery and perfect!

I love Bad Moms christmas and Daddy's home 2 - not as hallmark but both very funny!

BaublesAndGlitter · 15/11/2024 13:44

Xmas Shock at Muppets Christmas Carol being referred to as cheesy!

I have a 2 tier system - proper Christmas films (Home Alone, Elf, The Santa Claus) and the wonderfully rubbish ones.
Favourites of those are Christmas Land, My Christmas Inn and Christmas Inheritance.
You know the outcome within a few minutes and you can tell the actors are boiling in winter jumpers while filming in the heat but I love them Xmas Grin

shellyleppard · 15/11/2024 13:46

National lampoon's Christmas vacation.....a family must watch!!!! For me its the snowman, the snowman and the snowdog. Always always get up too early on Christmas day so end up with a cuppa watching these lovely films

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/11/2024 13:48

I spent the last three afternoons watching A Christmas Prince, and the two sequels - A Royal Wedding and The Royal Baby. Definite guilty pleasure!

HermioneWeasley · 15/11/2024 13:51

Haven’t watched it yet this year but the Brooke Shield “a castle for Christmas” is an excellent example of the genre

IDontLikePinaColadas · 15/11/2024 13:52

I subscribe to the Hallmark Channel on Amazon Prime every year to indulge in my love of a cheesy Christmas movie... my DP is horrified but it's a must for me. The storylines are always the same, but I bloody love them.

BreezyHedgehog · 15/11/2024 13:53

Single all the way on Netflix. Predictable and cheesy but I love it!

I love this one apart from the end, which is a let down for me!

There are quite a few on Netflix I’ve added to my list, try B&B Merry - that has a lot of plaid scarves and Christmas baking in it 😂

DH watches National Lampoons late every Christmas Eve while he's wrapping presents - it's his lovely personal Christmas tradition!

shellyleppard · 15/11/2024 14:01

It's such a funny film 😂

Dampfnudeln · 15/11/2024 14:05

I love those cheesy Hallmark films too. I can't even tell you what any of them are called that I've watched, they all just melt into one giant Christmas film fondue for me!

Ridingthegravytrain · 15/11/2024 14:07

I will save you all some pain and say do NOT watch deck the heart.

Watched last Xmas and it was so bad we may make it a Christmas tradition
