Cheesy “Guilty pleasure” Christmas films 2024

What Hallmark style Christmas films have you watched so far?

Channel 5 is showing them consistently now, and i’ve had the channels “Great Christmas” and “Christmas 24” on, non stop.

I watched “Christmas in Wolf Creek” the other day, it was on Christmas 24. Painfully cheesy story about a hot rancher and his girlfriend trying to make it work when they want different things. Throw in a runaway reindeer and the threat of the Town Christmas pageant not going ahead and you had a gripping storyline.

“Hot Frosty” which is new to Netflix is on my list, starring the Hallmark Queen of Christmas herself, Lacey Chabert.

PS - Why is she Christmassing on Netflix when she’s Hallmark royalty?

@VillageFete thank you. So sorry for your loss 💐

Raahh · 16/11/2024 13:43

As usual, I have been watching cheesy Christmas films since last year since the start of October , when they returned to the Great/Christmas 24 Channel. I've found them even more repetive this year- and lots of the more 'recent' ones (last 4/5 years).

I have still managed to see a few of my favourites over the past weeks- A Shoe Addict's Christmas, Journey back to Christmas ,Christmas Town. All the evergreen one, Sister Swap ones (they were repeated a lot last year).

Waiting for 'The Christmas train' to get repeated twice a day for the next month.

I have a 3 tier Christmas Film watching list-
A list is things like 'It's a wonderful life' and 'Elf' 'White Christmas' ,'Polar Express' (Christmas week viewing)
B list is things like 'Deck the Halls' 'Nativity!' (1 and 2- 3 at a push, 4 is utter rubbish).

C List ' Hall mark classic cheese Grin - I watch these every day.

Arthur Christmas - I will watch any time of the year , because I love it. Grin.

Christmas In The Air
Angels In The Snow
Hats Off To Christmas

and one where the heroine is an artist who lives in her sisters basement flat babysits her two lovely nieces .and meets a workaholic high flyer who asks her to Do His Christmas (plan shop etc)
She meets his outrageously wealthy family , his Mother commissions a portrait of the family .
She goes to the house with her nieces . The painting is bloody awful.
The Mum doesn't think "Whoah this is an untalented gold -digger who sponges off her sister" ..nope . She practically announces their engagement , and demands grandchildren. Happy Ever After

There’s a new one on tomorrow that I’m recording. It’s called “Christmas at Plumhill Manor” and it’s set in the English Countryside.
It’s on Great Christmas.

Thank you so much for the recommendation. I googled your description and found it - The 12 Gifts of Christmas. I just finished watching.

Oh my god I almost cried with laughter when the guy starts praising her crappy Santa painting. The awful ice-skating scene. The hideous “beautiful” art-themed necklace. The bizarre, AI-mutant-looking family portrait 🤣

So cheesy. Fantastic stuff.

Midnight at Magnolia. Netflix I think. Slightly higher quality than the usual

I’m Scottish so I love any of the ones set in the Highlands etc. There was one last year I watched (with Lacey Chabert 😂😂) called A Merry Scottish Christmas which didn’t disappoint! Very silly, but gorgeous to look at. And I don’t just mean Scott Wolf 😍

How did you watch that? I couldn't find it on any uk service.

There is one soon about a load of male strippers putting on a show to save the old town barn. I am looking forward to that!

I really like love actually. I know bits of it are problematic but I see straight past it.
Muppet Christmas carol
Grumpy old women at Christmas

What’s problematic with love actually?

sprigatito · 16/11/2024 19:01

I watched The Christmas Candle yesterday. It gave me diabetes

Oh interesting. I guess it is quite dated now, like friends got flack for fat Monica. Anything else?

burnoutbabe · 16/11/2024 19:08

Oh the holiday sitter -itv x -mixes it up by being 2 cute men who fall in love.

The porn film storyline
Andrew Lincoln stalking Keira Knightley

I do still love it though! It’s so Christmassy.

ObieJoyful · 16/11/2024 19:17

A Merry Scottish Christmas is on 5 on demand. Christmas 24 have it as well but it doesn’t seem to be scheduled currently.

All I Want for Christmas (Thora Birch, Lauren Bacall)
A Heavenly Christmas (with Kristin Davis from SiTC)
Mrs Miracle 1 & 2
Christmas Carousel
Annie Claus Comes to Town

rhubarbhandsoap · 16/11/2024 20:02

My people! I love the ‘watch every day / can go on in the background’ and the ‘proper watch’ films!

The ITVX app is good, there are lots on there that I’ve not seen on C5!

🎄

Mumwithbaggage · 16/11/2024 20:39

I love them all and will happily cry through them on a regular basis as my guilty pleasure.

For context I also like higher end drama - saw Waiting for Godot with Ben Whishaw in London this week and regularly go to the opera.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 16/11/2024 20:44

A Diva's Christmas Carol - it was a VH-1 original about a million years ago and I bloody love it! Vanessa Williams, John Taylor, Chili, 💋

Pigeon123456 · 16/11/2024 20:54

I really enjoyed Something From Tiffany's last year.

Yes , "12 Gifts of Christmas" I could picture Donna Mills face but couldn;t remember her name but she'd been in Dallas or Dynasty or similar ( turns out it is Knotts Landing and Melrose Place )
Thank goodness for Google search Xmas Grin

SwimmingFree · 16/11/2024 22:04

We've just watched one called "the best Christmas ever' on Netflix with Brandy, Heather Graham and Jason Briggs. It was very cheesy but me and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it Smile

It's OK you don't have to justify it. You are amongst friends here. <pats hand gently>
