Cheesy “Guilty pleasure” Christmas films 2024

What Hallmark style Christmas films have you watched so far?

Channel 5 is showing them consistently now, and i’ve had the channels “Great Christmas” and “Christmas 24” on, non stop.

I watched “Christmas in Wolf Creek” the other day, it was on Christmas 24. Painfully cheesy story about a hot rancher and his girlfriend trying to make it work when they want different things. Throw in a runaway reindeer and the threat of the Town Christmas pageant not going ahead and you had a gripping storyline.

“Hot Frosty” which is new to Netflix is on my list, starring the Hallmark Queen of Christmas herself, Lacey Chabert.

PS - Why is she Christmassing on Netflix when she’s Hallmark royalty?

I have a 2 tier system - proper Christmas films (Home Alone, Elf, The Santa Claus) and the wonderfully rubbish ones. Favourites of those are Christmas Land, My Christmas Inn and Christmas Inheritance. You know the outcome within a few minutes and you can tell the actors are boiling in winter jumpers while filming in the heat but I love them

This system needs certifying, it is correct.

I'd like to put in a vote for 'barbie's perfect Christmas' which is hands down, my favourite Christmas film. It's got snow, huskies, a great song 'cookies coming in by the pound, hot cocoa to wash it all down' - much underrated in the genre.

Netflix has soooo many good schlock fests, we can't get through December without watching all the Christmas prince films.

VillageFete · 15/11/2024 16:37

You are my people.

Please try and catch “Christmas in Notting Hill” It’s ridiculously corny, it’s fabulous.

VillageFete · 15/11/2024 16:45

If anyone has seen the new Netflix one “Hot Frosty” Can we have a review? I can’t watch until Sunday

I liked Love Hard on Netflix, which is cheesy but fun.

This year I’m looking forward to The Merry Gentlemen on Netflix:

Ooooh the Christmas Inheritance! Forgot about that one.

I love The Perfect Christmas Village, channel 5 plays it every year. It's awful, and brilliant. Love the concept! (Christmas obsessed woman gets sucked into her Christmas village display and it's Christmas everyday, spoiler: there's a dark handsome friend she's overlooked for years...)

I love this one too.

There's a terrible one called A Christmas Karen I saw the other day. It's a sexist, misogynist mash up whilst advocating for the (male) gay community. Sadly as it was based on A Christmas Carol I still enjoyed the story. I am a Christmas Carol sucker

52crumblesofautumn · 15/11/2024 18:50

Oh me too I love anything a Christmas-Carol-y!

Whichone2024 · 15/11/2024 21:44

I watched a Christmas Kiss and I DO NOT recommend it lol

Peakperformancetoday · 15/11/2024 23:26

I too love the cheesy ones but have a rule that they must be above a 6.0 - ideally closer to a 6.5 on imdb.

It helps get the better ones and cuts out the total written by computer ones.

Quite a few on Prime atm - though frustrating I can only see the rating on the app not my TV - I just save all the good score ones to my list. I take this seriously!

CurbsideProphet · 15/11/2024 23:40

Hello to my people 🙌🏻

I love Hallmark Christmas films. All the fake snow, perfect hair, happily ever afters. Life is such doom and gloom, I love 85mins of knowing everyone is going to end up happy, in a town called Mistletoe, saving the Christmas Pageant for another year, all while falling back in love with their high school sweetheart 🙌🏻

notenoughtogoround · 16/11/2024 08:01

I watched Christmas Inheritance yesterday 🤣🤣 Also see Christmas Mircale for Daisy, Holiday Calendar, Christmas Land, A castle for Christmas, and there is also one with Kristin Davis on safari - Holiday in the Wild. So bad they are good!

notenoughtogoround · 16/11/2024 08:02

Oh and for really bad one, BnB Christmas, Catering Christmas and a Brush with Christmas. All awful but brilliant
This might be by Mastermind specialist subject!

Peakperformancetoday · 16/11/2024 11:14

If anyone is a fan of the Mrs Miracle films - the first is on My5 and the 2nd on Channel 5 tomorrow at 4.35pm!

52crumblesofautumn · 16/11/2024 11:53

I agree @CurbsideProphet the snow, resolvable dilemma and good times are guaranteed!

IDontLikePinaColadas · 16/11/2024 11:56

I have just popped the fire on and was planning on settling in with a good book but as DP is out all day I feel a Hallmark marathon is on the cards….

TorturedPoetDepartment · 16/11/2024 12:05

The Knight Before Christmas on Netflix is my favourite!

Utterly ridiculous but brilliant 😂

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 16/11/2024 12:10

Hot Frosty - currently no.1 in Netflix top ten - is quite sweet and amusing.
I'd make a joke about a chilly willy but they don't get that far.
I was going to do a watch thread on Wed when it came out but life got in the way Sad so I ended up watching it at stupid o'clock this morning as a pick-me-up. Job done. The stripper one, merry gentlemen or some such, is this Wednesday Grin
Netflix know what they're doing.

Yojjy · 16/11/2024 12:12

I just subscribe to the Hallmark channel through Prime for the month, worth it! The Christmas in Evergreen series is my fav

ChessieFL · 16/11/2024 12:16

Look out for Christmas at Alpaca Farm. Cheesy Christmas romance story with added alpacas!

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 16/11/2024 12:20

The Princess Switch and its sequels. Dh makes me watch every year. So cheesey especially the sequels. The other ones are those Christmas Prince ones. We still watch even though they are terrible 😁Its always a royal family of some weird country with the same name. All the people seem to be poor and the royal prince or princess is about to get married to someone else.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 16/11/2024 12:22

Ooo the one with Lindsay Lohan too! Watched it last year and we liked it actually. It’s called Falling for Christmas I think.

StMarie4me · 16/11/2024 12:33

Beautifulsunflowers · 15/11/2024 13:06

My fave is last Christmas - I'm saving it for an afternoon when I know I won't be interrupted, and when I have a box of minI stollen and mulled wine to snack on!

I watched this 2 years ago with my best friend of 48 years. Again last Christmas. Will watch it alone this year as we lost her to cancer. Will weep tears of unabounding sorrow for having lost her, and joy for having known her.

VillageFete · 16/11/2024 13:16

@StMarie4me Desperately sorry to hear this. I lost my best friend to cancer too. 6 year’s this December.

It’s a cracking film, and I hope it brings you some comfort as you watch and remember her.

I’m too busy too have a festive cheese fest today 🙄 But it’s on the cards tomorrow.
