Cheesy “Guilty pleasure” Christmas films 2024

What Hallmark style Christmas films have you watched so far?

Channel 5 is showing them consistently now, and i’ve had the channels “Great Christmas” and “Christmas 24” on, non stop.

I watched “Christmas in Wolf Creek” the other day, it was on Christmas 24. Painfully cheesy story about a hot rancher and his girlfriend trying to make it work when they want different things. Throw in a runaway reindeer and the threat of the Town Christmas pageant not going ahead and you had a gripping storyline.

“Hot Frosty” which is new to Netflix is on my list, starring the Hallmark Queen of Christmas herself, Lacey Chabert.

PS - Why is she Christmassing on Netflix when she’s Hallmark royalty?

There are lots of Christmas films on the ITVX app! The ads were driving me a bit potty but there’s a special offer for premium (ad-free) for £1 a month, so I’ve got that (and set a reminder to cancel after Christmas). 🎄

@AnneShirleysNewDress running through snow and ice in heels seems to feature quite a bit. Grin. I can barely stand up on the pavement when it's even slightly slippery, with my winter boots on!

Mind you, it's compulsory in Hallmark films for most of them to be expert ice skaters (or completely useless and that is a 'plot device').

MammaTo · 07/12/2024 17:01

The Family Stone is my annual Christmas watch.

Bettyfromhomeroom · 07/12/2024 19:32

I love the cheesy hallmark films especially the Christmas in evergreen series (I think there are 4 films). Might have to subscribe to the hallmark channel on prime 😂

Today, I am re-watching 'Jolly Good Christmas' (too rainy to go out) as the title suggests, it's an American in London one, and has a woman driving around the Mall in a mini at Christmas, with no traffic whatsoever. Totally plausible. Grin.

(The film was made in 2022, the mini has an old style paper tax disc on the windowGrin).

Oooh I'm going to look for that one!!!

We seem to have similar terrible taste in cheesy Christmas

There is also the opera singer who ends up stranded in England with hunky widowed B&B owner. All these poor wives killed off by Netflix.
(It has Rachel Stanton improbably playing an American) and it is called the very original A Very British Christmas. So bad it's wonderful...

Nativity is mine and my daughter's all time favourite

Raahh · 11/12/2024 14:05

I am currently re-watching 'A Very British Christmas ' with (confusingly) Rachel Shenton - who is a Brit-playing an American who ends up in Yorkshire by accident. (Ironic- given she is usually a Yorkshire vets wife Grin in 'All Creatures Great and Small) The pronunciation of 'Knaresboro' by the American friend is classic 'Yank in the Uk'.

Watched Bridget jones again last tonight.

going to watch the second one tonight but I will NEVER ever watch the third one again lol

Myattention · 12/12/2024 19:01

I have to recommend That Christmas. It’s on Netflix and it’s animated. It’s just lovely.

Red One has only just been on at cinemas and is already on Amazon Prime for free. It is enjoyably crap! Stars The Rock and Chris Evans.

I'm surprised not to see the Mrs Miracle ones on the list.
I've just watched Fred Claus and I'm currently watching Scrooge the animated version.
There loads on my5

I seem to have mostly gone through the Netflix ones , one of the joys of being retired.

Channel 5 are showing Miracle, Miracle 2 and Mr Miracle back to back next Saturday from 10.55am!!

I've watched the dire Notting Hill at Christmas today. Delightfully bad! No watching 'A Timeless Christmas' - time travel and Christmas are the perfect combination!

HermioneWeasley · 14/12/2024 20:21

I LOVED “hot frosty”, it was funny, knowing and the shirtless snowman is the cute vet from Schitt’s Creek.

CurbsideProphet · 14/12/2024 20:55

I still need to watch that Netflix Christmas film starring Lucas from One Tree Hill, shirtless for most of it if I understand correctly 😀

Raahh · 16/12/2024 14:31

I have stepped up a tier in my Christmas viewing over the past couple of days- watched ' 'Muppet Christmas Carol' whilst wrapping pressies yesterday, and I'm watching 'Miracle on 34th Street ' (1947, Natalie Wood version, my favourite) now.

I think even I've almost watched the Hallmark style ones too often now- and I'm getting sick of people who say on Christmas . It's AT Christmas. AT! Grin.

CurbsideProphet · 19/12/2024 20:50

I'm watching A Match Made In Christmas which was on channel 5 this week. Just seen the worst fake snow scene ever in a film 😀

I can confirm that he is shirtless for quite a bit of the film 😀

If you don’t mind swearing, then Why Him is funny and worth a watch. Usual Christmas love story but done differently/comedy/crass. Not Hallmark at all!

Just adding it, it’s not suitable viewing with young kids!

I shall try that one at my parents! They love a Christmas movie! (Hopefully no sex though!)

Brand new Lacey Chaubert Christmas movie ‘The Christmas Quest’ on Christmas24+ channel tonight (it’s half way through on the non + channel right now).

MrsMiracle25 · 01/11/2025 21:33

I know this is an old thread but just a heads up that you can get a free month of Hallmark Plus online with the code VMG2025 at the moment. You’ll need a VPN to watch in the UK but it’s worth it!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/11/2025 21:47

This year we'll watch :
Lost Christmas (Eddie Izzard)
Last Christmas (Emilia Clark)

Love Actually at the cinema

Watched Last Train to Christmas (Micheal Sheen) wouldn't bother again
This Is Christmas ( Alfred Enoch) seen it a couple of times so probably leave it this year .

Our independent cinema is going to show 100 Best Christmas Movies and I am beside myself with excitement. It will include Last Christmas ( which I’ve seen 6 times) and the Muppets Christmas Carol which I’ve never seen plus some really old classics apparently. The guy who runs the cinema lives and breathes film so was really excited as he discussed them
