@NobodyGivesADamn thanks for the title

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@JulietSierra 3 for £12 on Asda so £4 a box but don't have the special flavours (toffee nut latte etc included in the deal) just the standard latte, caramel latte, cap, hot choc etc

Ooh thanks, I’ll have a look. Still pricey though and not 26p per coffee as the previous poster said. Dolce Gusto are the cheapest coffee pods I’ve found if anyone is looking for a more affordable pod machine.

I’ve never found Tassimo pods as cheap as that! They’re usually about £5 for a box of 6 or 7… really expensive in my opinion!

At Sainsbury’s the Kenco americano, Colombian, decaf and cafe au lait ones are all 16 for £4.20 which is 26p each. The flat white ones and Cadbury hot chocolates are £4.20 for 8. The Costa ones are more expensive - you’re right that they are £5 for 6. But the Kenco ones aren’t too bad, and it’s probably still the cheapest way to get a Costa?

YeahWellWhyNot · 03/11/2024 19:40

Thanks for the advent calendar advice. I'm off to m&S tomorrow as cashing in on a sparks voucher to get DH bits so was pondering adding the advent calendar for me but maybe not. I like the look of the nuxe one but that's also unknown territory for me. Perhaps I will have a read of that advent calendar thread although probably a lot out of my budget!!

From a previous thread I got some travel sized magnetiles from TK Maxx for about £13 (they had some smaller sets at around £8) - think it was about 6 weeks ago? They might still be around but reckon they'll be good for DS (aged 3) when out and about!

Ooh I’ll have a look thanks!! That’s exactly the sort of thing I’m after 🥰

Any idea for easy handbag bag toys to put away for Christmas? Something I can pull out at restaurants etc. Was thinking maybe magnatiles? (We don’t want an iPad or tablet type thing - toddler isn’t responsible enough for anything like that!!)

We have some Apples to Pears tins- farm in a tin a firm favourite with my 3 DCs. Also the LCD writing tablets.

That’s where I’m going wrong…we usually get the latte and cappuccino pods and they are definitely more expensive. Might have to try the cheaper ones!

Theraffarian · 03/11/2024 19:34

Personally I’d say at that price point the Holland and Barrett one looked better this year . There is a whole beauty advent thread , but it does focus a lot on the more expensive ones .

Would you mind posting a link to that thread please?

When I had my tassimo machine I bought espresso pods and frothed heated milk with a £1 ikea milk frother. Made much nicer lattes or cappuccinos and was a good bit cheaper too.

Thanks - I’ve never heard of the apples and pears tins but they’re PERFECT!! Them and some magna tiles and we’ll be set!

Thank you so much, I always struggle to find anything outside of this wee thread!

Thread 5 though, I can see me falling down a rabbit hole now 😂

Thank you to @BourbonsAreOverated for mentioning the Jelly Belly site, especially the Belly Flops - and not just because of the name.

When I just had a few packets on my basket postage would have been £5. It’s free over £30, though, and a free Jelly Belly plush toy also appeared in my basket.

It really depends on how you like your coffee. The Costa latte pods are packs of 6 but the Kenco Americano Grande are packs of 16.
Both, and many others including chocolate, are currently on offer for 3 packs for £12 in Tesco and Asda. I don't think we've ever paid more than this.
They used to be on a permanent offer in Asda as 3 packs for £10!

LizMay29 · 03/11/2024 20:02

Has anyone come across any decent offers on the Leapfrog magic adventures globe? Cheapest I’ve found is John Lewis at £59.99 but it’s out of stock online. £69.99 elsewhere. Both more than I’d like to spend ideally!!

If anyone happens to see a Wednesday Addams Monster High doll back in stock anywhere please let me know! Thanks!

Very are taking preorders to fulfil later this month.

IlovePond · 03/11/2024 20:08

@Tigger83 - some suggestions:

Xmas socks
Multi tool kit
Bottle stopper
Tweezers
Clippers
Hair gel
Individually wrapped chocolate
Mini alcohol bottles
Mulled wine pack
Spice packets
Sample sizes of aftershave/cologne
Code for a computer game for the ‘big’ door

I would do one for my DH as I love doing this sort of thing, but he is only interested in the DDog, (and he won’t fit in a door🙀)

Do you have Dobble? If not I can highly recommend - it’s brilliant! Our two have been playing it since the youngest was about 3.

Rubyroo73 · 03/11/2024 20:18

Still looking for a £5 off £40 Argos code if anyone has one going spare? Thank you x

Elpheba · 03/11/2024 20:19

@anon2423 the mini magnatiles a pp was mentioning are branded picassotiles. There were still some in tk maxx when I went in today in real life. None on their website at the moment but might be worth keeping an eye. We often take one tub of playdough and a few mini tools out too in a zip loc- so mini plastic scissors, some silicone mini muffin cases and a few cutters.

IlovePond · 03/11/2024 20:25

Anybody on here got one of the Oodie sleep tees? If so, are they too short, too baggy, too hot? I am finding myself strangely drawn to one in the sale, but it’s still a lot of money for a big tee shirt if they are not really lovely.

(I also want another Oodie, but as I already have far more hooded blankets than any one person reasonably needs, I am restraining myself.)

Thanks

My MIL just got some magnetic games for DS and his cousins from The Works; they’re like an old school pencil tin (if you remember the flat kind you used to get coloured pencils in…?) and all the pieces are magnetic and self contained. Some will be too old for a toddler (hangman might be pushing your luck?!) as DS and co are 5-8, but there were little jigsaws etc too. She said they were £2 each so it might be worth a look to see if there’s something suitable?

Yes, DD has 1 and I’ve bought a new one this year. She is 17 and it fits her fine.
I’ve tried it out myself, not something I would walk around the house in without bottoms on and for a hot flush test it isn’t something I could sleep in on a cold night, it’s too heavy.

lovely material and if you are slim it fits lovely, just not fit for purpose for this frumpy nearly 50 hot mess 😂

BusterGroove · 03/11/2024 20:33

@IlovePond im a frumpy 43 year old and I now have 2 sleep tees and don’t really wear anything else. I’m a size 14/16 in normal clothes and it’s nice and baggy on me. I agree with @Rescue2024 that I wouldn’t walk around the house without bottoms on, but I sleep in just the tee. I would definitely recommend!!

redjoker · 03/11/2024 20:33

Nice wireless headphones with an extra 7 quid off at checkout

hby9628 · 03/11/2024 20:36

@Rescue2024 your oodie T-shirt feedback is really interesting...I found it helped my hot flushes. I'm size 12/14 & I find it really roomy & a decent length. I love mine. They are a good price in the black Fri sale, I think some are £22 and I would recommend them.
