@NobodyGivesADamn thanks for the title

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Anybody on here got one of the Oodie sleep tees? If so, are they too short, too baggy, too hot? I am finding myself strangely drawn to one in the sale, but it’s still a lot of money for a big tee shirt if they are not really lovely.

(I also want another Oodie, but as I already have far more hooded blankets than any one person reasonably needs, I am restraining myself.)

Thanks

Edited

I don't have one, but I always think they just look like expensive nighties. 🫣

Has anyone come across any decent offers on the Leapfrog magic adventures globe? Cheapest I’ve found is John Lewis at £59.99 but it’s out of stock online. £69.99 elsewhere. Both more than I’d like to spend ideally!!

If it doesn’t need to be new/boxed they start from about £30 on Vinted (so just under £40 with postage/fees) - or there’s one with a box for £50 although seller doesn’t have any reviews

Leap Frog globe with stylus

Interactive globe. Battery powered. Retailing at £70 currently. In perfect working order. Touch the stylus to the globe and watch a video on the screen about the country teaching children about cultures of the world.

DD (10) would like baking supplies for Christmas “like they use in bake off and other baking shows”. I am not a baker and would love to get her some of the cake tools that they might use on these programmes but no idea where to start!! Any ideas? Where’s best to buy baking things? X

IlovePond · 03/11/2024 20:53

Thanks for your feedback, @hby9628 @Rescue2024 and @BusterGroove - much appreciated.

For those who wouldn’t walk round the house in them on their own, is that because you are tall? I should have said I am 5’4” and used to Oodies being really long on me. Ideally I want a sleep tee to be below my knees but it’s hard to tell from the Oodie pics how tall the models are.

I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time in my nightwear so really want something I can wear around the house without having to worry about finding semi matching bottoms!

hby9628 · 03/11/2024 21:02

@IlovePond I'm a similar height and wear mine around the house without any trousers no problem. It's knee length on me. I got my sil one for Xmas last year and she liked it so much she got another.

Long time lurker but I really need some help!
Does anyone know how I can get Uggs classic ultra mini in size 4 for anything other than full price?
Its the only thing my DD14 has asked for but at £145 full price I just can’t stretch that far
TIA

I did something similar for my niece a few years ago.
I got loads of flour, chocolate chips, sugar, vanilla extract etc from Lidl.
I got some reusable cupcake cases from Dunelm.
Butt, if I was you, and not sure whether it is a passing phase or not, I'd probably have a good look through Temu. I know some people aren't fond of it, but you will be able to get a fair bit for a decent price. If she falls in love with baking, you can get her the "proper" stuff on a year by year basis.
Hope that helps. Xx

Poundland used to do a whole range of pretty pink/ purple/lilac silicon type tools. Spoons, spatula, whisk etc. Worth a look.

PorridgeFace · 03/11/2024 21:19

@Chocoholicmumma I was looking yesterday for the same. Cheapest I could find was from the Vault for £129 using Welcome10.

I haven’t had these before, however, I have just ordered an oodie and a sleep tee in the 50% off sale and after I had completed my order it came up with an offer of a different sleep tee at another 50% off if I wanted to add it to my order. It was a branded one so the £27 at 50% off ones and was offered at £13 something. (Obviously I ordered it because I can’t resist a bargain). Just an fyi in case you wanted another one.

Can anyone recommend some cheap earbuds from Amazon etc? Just as a wee extra for my youngest

mummyof2boys30 · 03/11/2024 21:28

Anker soundcore. We have the p3i and are fantastic. They are full price at minute but normally go down to 25ish. Im actually looking to buy another pair for myself

BusterGroove · 03/11/2024 21:33

@IlovePond im 5’5 and it’s definitely long enough to cover me up - I just love being cosy and drawling on the sofa so I wear PJ bottoms or ‘lounge trouser’ type things (they don’t match in anyway though). I also stick an Oodie on over the top if it’s cold.
I also find them cooling when it’s hot and warm when it’s cold. I much prefer them to pyjamas or a normal nightie - they’re very soft. I got both of mine as presents and in the sale, I wouldn’t pay full price for them!

Sorry can't remember who wanted the jellycat pain au chocolat but Temptation Gifts appear to have it in stock. These are definitely a genuine stockist

@LizMay29 Amazon Warehouse have it for £58 'Like new'
I've been tracking it all year & I've never seen it lower than £60!

@Cupofteaandbiscuits You could get some of the fancy icing nozzles that make different types of flowers etc with buttercream, and some bags. Food dye gels, sprinkle bits. A bunt tin!

Nestnearlyempty · 03/11/2024 21:48

I don’t know if they are any good but you can get refillable tassimo capsules on Amazon.

Sorry when I try to link multiple things it keeps refreshing and disappearing so here’s a not very helpful list…

some baking fundamentals:
Digital scales
measuring spoon set
silicone spatula
parchment cake tin liners

some cake decorating tools:
piping bags and Large star nozzle for icing cupcakes (the rounded end one makes the flower shapes if you pipe outward in a spiral)
A ~30cm offset spatula/palette knife for applying/levelling out frosting on the top/sides of a cake
They’re always sliding cakes around on a big paddle, each to their own
You can get rolling pins with spacers which make sure you roll out your icing/pastry to a consistent height
Silicone mats are also good for rolling out fondant/pastry

There is a range of Bake Off branded tools available, they’re a duck egg colour, I’ve seen them on Amazon and they probably cover what you’d want

if she is likely to do a lot of stuff with fondant/buttercream then gel colours (eg Wilton brand) give a much better colour than food colouring

it’s worth a look down the baking aisle at Waitrose; they have lots of beautiful/useful gizmos and their sprinkles etc have wow factor
