@NobodyGivesADamn thanks for the title

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

was it this one from last year? I got a load of good ideas from here!

Well designed practical things | Mumsnet

What are you favourite high quality but practical things? My husband doesn’t need or want anything, but he loves and gets great joy out of using well...

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 30/10/2024 19:09

@Qwerty21 was it this fab list, from @wibdib

My mum and a friend used to have a similar gift exchange every year their theme was 'guess what' - they got handed over on Christmas Eve and you had to declare your answer on New Year's Eve (they would usually see each other on those days for parties). Over those years they never repeated anything nor did they end up getting the same thing the same year!
Lots of the things they exchanged have now become a little more mainstream and can now be found in places like Lakeland so it would be worth checking them out but some of the more fun things that stick out in memory include (and most of which can be found on eBay and/or Amazon:
Cubed egg mould for hard boiled eggs (these days check out amazon egg cubed mould but they also have lots of shaped ones for Japanese bento boxes and rice moulds
Corn on the cob kernel remover - corn on the cob remover 1 corn on the cob stripper 2
silicone spoon rest/lid lifter 1
silicone spoon holder/lid rest 2
silicone lid rest
silicone cup lid/cover
easy spreader butter knife - great if you have hard butter that you can't spread easily
egg knocker - to decapitate eggs
turkey forks - ours only get used rarely but so useful whenever we do have a joint
meat claws -if you like pulled meat
pineapple corer.peeler/slicer
pineapple eye remover
strawberry huller
sandwich shape cutter - lots of different ones
It's late so I've just put a link to the first I've round of many of these things - they give the idea and explanation but do a quick search for each thing as I haven't searched for the best priced one.
Also the kitchen thing that has bought me most joy this year has been an oil spray from Amazon - I had a bigger than usual bottle of good rapeseed oil, that was difficult to drizzle. Found a nice spray bottle on amazon that looks like this, but mine is mustard yellow colour top, sprays and pours, but just does it really nicely and is a great way to get a little oil nicely over things - it just is really satisfying to use! Bought it through dh's prime account so I can't see which one it was at the moment but can check later if you're interested.

I only remembered as I bought a few bits, thank you @wibdib

Thanks!

Thanks to whoever posted the 70% off Halloween costumes at TU. Not festive obviously but I always buy now for next year as it really cuts the cost.... Just bagged two Ghostbusters costumes for my two boys for £5 each which includes the backpacks - I ordered through Argos as it tracks for cashback on airtime rewards. George at Asda are running a similar sale so picked up a bat tutu pyjama set for my DD for £3. Worth checking if like minded to save money well in advance!

I just bought CK Everyone 200mls on Debenhams. I got 10% extra off through the Discounts for Teachers site and I also tried quidco. It was just over £24, only about £5 more than 100mls.

@Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse I love the strawberry huller. Going to buy a couple of these (we usually pierce the strawberries with a metal straw)

So still a spendy one but if you are looking to buy a full size fragrance from Penhaligons I've a code for 10% off. Also don't forget to search for "samples" and choose some for your basket as you can have up to three free Grin

Just a heads up on the Nespresso. Mine arrived with a really damaged box. Looked like it had been thrown around by DPD. Luckily the actual machine wasn't damaged. Just thought you might like to know, so you can check yours before you put it away.

Was going to say that the strawberry huller is the best and most useful thing in our kitchen. Everyone should have one!

Just seen a post on Facebook about someone getting the Lego Stitch for £12 in the Sainsbury’s in store clearance! I was looking everywhere for it when it was £40, never mind that price. Always sold out. It’s £45 in a few places atm and it’s the main thing my daughter wants, I’m thinking I’m going to just have to buy it. This thread makes you want to get the very best price though doesn’t it, and now I know it’s been £40 (and apparently £12!!), it pains me 😂
