@NobodyGivesADamn thanks for the title

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Can you share details of what’s in your basket and someone else can try? It might help figure out the problem.

I don’t really want to derail the thread, don’t worry. My £5 off £40 doesn’t work either and that’s a legitimate code for my original account so clearly it’s my issue! Thanks for trying to help though!

Ladyoftheapple · 03/11/2024 12:49

These have great reviews on Amazon, reduced to £14.99

@TheBigFish I'm vegan and I think I would be okay with this as it's helping wildlife, but I agree with a PP that it may not go down well with some vegans and I don't think I'd risk it, sorry

I've had issues like this before. Could be worth clearing your cache.

Can any vegans on here please advise if they would not want to be gifted alpaca fleece for nesting birds? I find DF and his partner so so hard to buy for and thought this may be good. But don't want to offend or gift something they won't use. I know vegans may not wear alpaca wool but wasn't sure if they would use ethically sourced fleece to help birds?! Now there's a question I never thought I would have to consider...

Good thought - vegan DH would not use or wear anything with wool or feathers or in fact any product or by product of animals and this would not pass his vegan rules. But some vegans might be ok with it? Sorry that's not very helpful!

MissMaryBennet · 03/11/2024 13:13

@hannahbanana2007 and @Houseofsardines I really recommend the iPod classics. You can only get them secondhand and the aren't cheap, but they are very well made and do what you want. CEX has quite a few. Price will vary mainly based on memory size.

Blessedbethefruitz · 03/11/2024 13:18

@TheBigFish If they wear wool or leather you're fine (and they're not really vegan). I'd avoid if you're not sure. If they're just on a plant based diet as opposed to actually vegan, it would be OK.

I can’t get this to work. I’ve already signed up before (annoyingly my £10 expired before I could use it), used a different email address this time, and created a new account but it’s saying my code isn’t eligible. Looks like I will have to use my £5 off after all! What a shame.

Not sure if this is what you are trying….

Just reposting this for those asking for Argos codes…..

Just seen this on another site.
not sure if it’s already been posted but may help with a new email.
Argos have brought back the newsletter signup code £10 off £60, after temporarily running the promo for a few days earlier in the month. Terms states that it will run until 29/01/2025 so good for Black Friday period. Code comes through in a couple of minutes. Works on most things on site, excludes gift cards and wont work in conjunction with other codes.

Thanks for all the vegan/alpaca advice. I think I'll avoid as I'm pretty sure they are vegan for ethical reasons. I struggle so much for their gifts. Have given so much garden stuff over the years, and vouchers for various vegan meals kits or hampers and I'm out of ideas!

Londonmummy66 · 03/11/2024 14:03

The Baker Ross website is showing a code for free delivery at the moment. Might be a good idea for little crafty bits to fill advent calendars or for stockings.

@MsSheldonCooper :
sorry no help at all, but i’d not seen them before and think my son would love them! The sizes are s-xl and the sizing chart appears to be no help at all! Do you happen to know what shoe sizes these equate to please? Thanks.

@Waffles21 which brand are you looking at? If it’s Rab, I think I saw earlier that M is 7-8 and L is 9-10.

theyre not cheap but this was a great gift for my son - he loved them. So did I actually - after trying his on I bought my own in the January sales for about £25 and can’t see past them now!

IlovePond · 03/11/2024 14:14

Just a reminder that some JL and also Costa rewards expire today if anyone was thinking of using them. I used my JL skincare reward to get a free shower gel.

I used my Costa reward yesterday and looked so disappointed on being told that the Black Forest hot chocolate wasn’t available until next week, that the lovely lad dug out the ingredients and made me one. He said I was first of the year in that store. I felt ridiculously pleased…

beetr00 · 03/11/2024 14:14

Disneyland2022 · 03/11/2024 14:27

Rakuten

I have a referral code, new customers that sign up to Rakuten get £25 back after a £30 spend!

it makes a very good deal for Argos, boots and Jd sports!

Wellwhoknewthat · 03/11/2024 14:34

@MamaBearH
So, this one would be fine, Thrustmaster is a good make and compatible with PS5.
If you can stretch further then look at the logitech G29. Argos have it but you should be able to pick up a second hand one from marketplace etc.

Things to bear in mind are 2 or 3 pedals (so ability to use manual and/or have an add on gearshift). Also, using pedals when sat in the sofa is a bit awkward so at some point he'll want to upgrade to a racing chair and frame.
Double check that the games he wants to play are supported by the wheel, these might be listed on argos in the Q&A otherwise the manufacturer's website are good.

Thank you so much! I didn't know where to begin so this is very helpful. If I keep looking from now then hopefully an offer\deal or even 2nd hand one appears before Christmas. Thank you

Regarding the alpaca wool, would this be hung up in the spring?

hby9628 · 03/11/2024 15:47

I'm stuck for ideas for my sil so I'm thinking about one of the Valentte gift boxes. I've not orders from them before but they have good reviews & are popular on here. Has anybody tried any of the perfumes?

Also I tried my nespresso machine today. It's brilliant. Thank you to whoever found it!

Thanks so much for the Crackle Wick and Punirunes tips - got both!
