@NobodyGivesADamn thanks for the title

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

No I'm not tolerating this, Christmas nutcrackers don't actually crack nuts? Wtf?! I mean little flimsy types for tree decorations obviously won't. But I always assumed the taller solid ones did, in their mouths?! Why are they even called nutcrackers if they don't actually crack nuts. Oh man my world has changed today. And I don't know it's in a good way

I have no idea if the taller solid ones do/did, sorry, but now I’m intrigued! I was stupidly just laughing as someone asking for a child friendly cracker for nuts was being sent ideas for tree decorations instead….not quite so funny now ‘X’ amount of time later, and having to explain it!

Hello lovely people in my phone 👋🏻 DD13 who has a fondness for Monster High has just come across the Wednesday Addams dolls and I was wondering if anyone had seen the Wednesday in Nevermore uniform and Enid ones IRL? Googling is coming up with then Wednesday ones OOS everywhere with Enid only available in Smyths….

Wednesday

Sorry edited. I hadn’t read the thread properly and just noticed you had linked the very one

All this talk of nutcrackers has reminded me of one of the best Christmas DVDs to have in if you have young kids - Tom and Jerry - A Nutcracker's Tale - which is a snip at £2.97 (cheaper than renting on Prime!).

It's basically Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker music, whereby Tom and Jerry get sucked into the tale and the usual T&J shenanigans ensue... there's very little speaking, there are some really funny bits and it's the sort of thing that I used to put on (or indeed the dc) and have it on in the background as it's lovely classical music where you don't need to watch the story too much - if you dip in and out you'll see some fun bits. Big bonus is it's not as intrusively noisy or relentless as lots of the younger kids shows these days so it becomes a win win - they think the tv is on, but they can listen without needing to watch and if they do then they learn the story of the nutcracker, see some classic T&J escapades as well as hearing the music.

Enjoy :)

Ladies
After years of not being interested it seems I need a Velvetiser - hot chocolate maker.
I see I can get one in HC for about £70 this weekend but no chocolate with it.
Is this likely to be the best offer I can get?
Is the HC one worth getting over the Salter one on Amazon?
I need to get this to pick up tomorrow or I’ll leave it for Christmas depending on what you all say

We’ve had our velvetiser for a year and love it. We use it a lot and have had no problems with either luke warm drinks, or small cup servings. I can’t comment on the Salter one.

rhubarbhandsoap · 01/11/2024 23:44

I’ve got £10 off a £60 Argos spend if anyone wants the code 💸

PD20 works on some of the nail polishes on there as well as on the toys.

Thanks I’ve tried that one but it’s just taking it off the board game. There was one for BOO20 but think that’s expired now 😬

FuppinNora · 02/11/2024 00:07

Smyths have some black Friday deals - one of them is 3d pen for €18

Sure! I’ll send now, I may or may not have had a bit too much bargain Nespresso today and still be wide awake 😂

Just ordered this. My girls love Tom & Jerry and the Nutcracker, so I'm sure thus will make a great new Christmas film for them to watch this year.

@Changingagain if your daughter will not understand relative size then The Entertainer have an 80cm unicorn on sale for £19.99 at the moment but this is smaller than Smyths’ which is 120cm. The Works have one for £6 but that is only 60cm so ‘giant’ depends a bit on the age of the child!

We have a Chad Valley much-bigger-than-Robert unicorn bought for DD2 (when I was too sleep deprived to think about relative size!) - it is huge and I bought in a 3-for-2 deal at a bargain but that was 7 years ago so I don’t know if they still make them.

Other large soft toy bargains I have had in the past were a 80cm Narwhal from Clintons for £10 one year and a similar sized unicorn from Dunelm for about £5 so worth checking those online.

Good luck with your unicorn hunt!

About right. My DD both loved these, aged 5 - 7.

I would say 6 is about right. My 5 year old had one last year and couldn’t do much of it herself, I basically did it all and she just got a doll afterwards. A 6 year old may have half a chance of being able to do the actual mixing.

I've just bought the mixies lamp for a 6 year old so hoping it's suitable!

Need help! Can anyone recommend a really good pair of gauntlet gardening gloves that can actually be used to protect against rose thorns and brambles? Only thing on DH Xmas list

These are amazing, had ours for years and still work (used to hold a scratching cat when removing tangles and she couldn’t bite through them too)

another velvetiser fan here. we don't find it lukewarm or small cup? it fills the mugs it comes with. can only make one cup at a time though.

the current best deal i think is the HC vip deal. i bought mine for £100 from qvc a few years ago & got free choc sachets included. i think the hc deal is better but you have to buy choc separately. they have an even cheaper deal for £45 (i think,) if you subscribe to 6 months of choc sachets.

mumonthehill · 02/11/2024 07:24

For those still looking for a coffee machine, Very have a Tassimo one down to £39 with a pod bundle. Looks like a good deal.

Elphaba17 · 02/11/2024 07:27

Home bargains had some great national geographic sets yesterday. I got these 2 for DS as he loved one that he got for his birthday. One set was £3.99 and the other was £2.99.

They also had some hismile products. I got a peach iced tea toothpaste for £1.99 and this tooth gloss for £2.99. I wouldn’t normally buy this range but DD loves it as she’s seen it all over social media and will be delighted to see these in her stocking. She bought a toothpaste with her own money a while ago for £9!!!!
