@NobodyGivesADamn thanks for the title

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Ladies
After years of not being interested it seems I need a Velvetiser - hot chocolate maker.
I see I can get one in HC for about £70 this weekend but no chocolate with it.
Is this likely to be the best offer I can get?
Is the HC one worth getting over the Salter one on Amazon?
I need to get this to pick up tomorrow or I’ll leave it for Christmas depending on what you all say

The HC VIP deal for £70 let's you add a box of sachets for a tenner. That's what I paid at Easter time and I was happy with that. You could chance an offer on QVC or HC at Black Friday, but personally I don't think this year will that much better if last years BF is anything to go by.

IIRC you also get the cups included with the HC VIP deal.

Not sure if this works on top, but it popped up for me on the HC website.

@Serenitesanta, I wouldn’t personally recommend the Velvetiser. Ours broke after 6 months despite only being used mainly to froth milk. Reviews are pretty mixed online. We might just have been unlucky, but would be interested in other recommendations too.

Not necessarily a sale item but Aldi have some nice Christmas decorations in stock. Someone up-thread was looking for a nutcracker.

The Velvetiser has two issues, I found.

  1. Needs to be microwaved after it's made as it’s barely lukewarm
  1. Only gives you a small teacup's worth. So whilst the first batch is in the microwave, you have to make a second batch, if you want to fill up an average sized mug. Then that second batch needs to also be microwaved. So that's 2-3 cups dirtied for one mug of hot chocolate. Pain in the arse

Don't get the HC one! See my post just before this one for reasons why.

Best hot chocolate is just milk with a hefty teaspoon of Nutella into one of the electric jug frothers. We got a severin brand one from Amazon for £90 4 years ago and it’s still going strong after daily use (I have a mocha addiction) and it’s fab as I use it daily for a small amount of milk but I can fit in enough to do hot choc for kids at same time as making milk for my coffee. Just had a look on Amazon and they’re pricier now but there is an instant pot branded one that looks similar (500ml capacity so slightly smaller but much better than nespresso and HC) and I would assume is good as it’s a decent brand. John Lewis have it too- both have it for £50 reduced from £70

Hang on a minute, does this mean these actually crack nuts?! If so how? I just thought they were a decoration with a weird name?!!

villamariavintrapp · 01/11/2024 21:17

Thank you so much for the teen skincare and makeup advice. It’s been so helpful to me! Especially @Donsyb @Mentaldays @QOD @OatFlatWhiteForMePlease @Summerdew@Beingacatbed @Londonmummy66 @Elphaba17

I second this! Thanks so much for all the help!

@QOD @Summerdew I thought about this, but I'm in rural Cornwall and don't think there's anywhere nearby that I could take her.

I dawdled on the ankler headphones and now they have gone back up to full price, has anyone seen any other offers on some noise cancelling headphones?

Anker headphones are often on offer on Amazon- I’m sure that will come
around again

Ilovepugs2017 · 01/11/2024 21:30

Claire’s have 40% off at the moment and you can use rewards/discounts on top. I had a £5 rewards voucher and £5 birthday voucher so managed to get DD a cute little across the body bag and fluffy owl diary and only had to pay 80p 🙏👌

I chose store collection so fingers crossed they have them in the shop like the website says they do! 😬🤞

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/11/2024 21:30

Those ones are the popular decorative items of German origin. The pp was looking for the wooden or metal type that actually cracks nuts.

A decorative nutcracker that also cracks nuts would definitely cover all bases in this case. (A gap in the market for any potential Dragons Den entrepreneurs?)

Sorry that was meant to be in reply to @PurpleSkittle in relation to the post from @JamMakingWannaBe

Hmm, what you could do together is go to a boots, try on loads together and take a note of the ones that work on her skin. Then do an online match with Charlotte Tilbury? Or email and ask for some swatches - I’ve had a few in the past from space nk as one of my samples. There’s a space nk in Exeter I think if you could get there to try? You might even be able to get swatches on vinted or eBay.
ETA - just looked on vinted and they have some for 1.50 on there if you’re quick

If you can't get her foundation matched i would recommend the Charlotte tilbury healthy glow. It's a tinted moisturiser and you can adjust how much you use to match your skin tone. My friend and I both use it and we have very different complexions.
