Posh adult "stocking" presents

CurlewKate · 23/10/2024 12:41

I need some posh small presents. 4 for men and 4 for women. Maybe 10/15 quid each? I want them to be a bit out of the ordinary-and something they won't want to recycle immediately. The recipients are between 23 and 28.Any ideas?

@LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain "I wouldn't want anything ordered from Amazon"

But how would you know??

Sorry about "posh"! I know what I mean, but it's hard to find other words. Luxurious, a more expensive version of something usual, something nice you might not buy for yourself. Something you won't automatically bin a week after Christmas. Not a trinket. I gave truffle related things a couple of years ago, for example....

My friends know!
Can't bear the Amazon warehouse working conditions or the effect on many small business in areas I care about.

I absolutely agree. But I obviously haven't got the Amazon Detecting Antenna!

Where gifts on this thread have an amazon link, people can search for alternative/independent suppliers of the same thing!

I don't have detecting antenna...just had versions of this conversation in real life with gift-buyers/gift-givers. Whose stocking filler presents to me have included a fancy notebook, and cosmetics made by a very local company. I haven't used the notebook but the cosmetics are excellent.

If they like the outdoors or adventures, browsing in person in an army surplus or similar shop will bring up some unexpected gadgets and handy delights.

Le Creuset egg cups or espresso cups

I am seconding, or maybe thirding, this. If any of your recipients are coffee drinkers, a le creuset espresso cup would be such a fantastic gift!

For Gen z women who are quite into trends:

  • summer Fridays lip balm
  • Sol de jeneiro paradise minis set
  • Laneige overnight lip mask
  • Rare beauty hand cream
  • gisou honey infused lip oil

a lot of the stuff being posted seems a bit “old” to me.

@TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack they've changed those Clarins lip oils recently and they're really runny now so don't last as long ☹️

Beware of some cosmetics. eg. I'm allergic to Clarins.

Chestnut134 · 24/10/2024 15:12

Oh and if you want to do perfumes I’d get the Kayali discovery layering set for £22 rather than penhaligans or some of the other brands mentioned here. It’s just a bit more on trend.

Well, obviously the age of the person receiving the stocking comes into it! I'd not get the same things for my 16yo niece as I would for my 70-something MIL. But I think what pp said was great - just get the more luxurious version of the normal thing. And everyone is different. Personally I'd hate a keychain as I'd never use it, but would love toiletries, booze or chocolate.

(Although as an older millennial I'd still like anything from that list)

Yes, agree it's hard. I was going for the brand more than the actual product if a smart present is required. I loved my keyring but would hate 'toileteries' as I only use elemis products and spend my life counting calories so I'd pass chocolate on as I would booze unless it was decent champagne or a good bottle of red. Fortunately I work for a huge organisation so Christmas presents aren't really a thing for people I don't know very well!

Also I think 'posh' varies, I'm probably country posh so Fairfax, Holland Cooper and anything made from pheasant feathers all the way for me, but if I had to buy for 'Town' posh I'd probably struggle!

Crikeyalmighty · 24/10/2024 15:35

Rituals car air fresheners- smell amazing- I buy my son and husband them every year-

They also do a great coloured lip balm in a tube - looks good Asa nude lipstick

rainbowstardrops · 24/10/2024 15:53

Following as I have difficult to buy for people too!

jacksonlambsregulardisorder · 24/10/2024 15:56

Depending on the interests, Present Indicative, Paper Tiger, and the Literary Gift Company are all good sources of non-tat little gifts.

Maurepas · 24/10/2024 15:56

Leather luggage label.

CurlewKate · 24/10/2024 16:03

These are lovely-I've given a lot of her stuff in the past. The bigger pouches are out of this thread's price range, but they are lovely too.

These glass plates are gorgeous Ortigia Sicilia and you could split a set one each.

The White Company also do some great small gifts - pillow spray, mini candles, sleep mask, trinket dish would be my choice.

I'd also look at Oliver Bonas - good for fancy socks, mugs, mini books and pretty homewares

Ortigia Sicilia

Italian soap and fragrance company. Beautiful colours and scents. Perfumes, creams, soaps, candles with natural ingredients and olive oil of Sicily

TK Maxx have 400ml le crueset mugs in loads of colours for £9.99.
