Posh adult "stocking" presents

CurlewKate · 23/10/2024 12:41

I need some posh small presents. 4 for men and 4 for women. Maybe 10/15 quid each? I want them to be a bit out of the ordinary-and something they won't want to recycle immediately. The recipients are between 23 and 28.Any ideas?

It just goes to show how subjective taste is - nearly everything on here would be straight to the charity shop/food bank if it was given to me. Perhaps not stamps or a Costa card but just about everything else.

one thing I have bought in the past that has been a big hit are personalised drinks glasses. They aren't expensive and are very adaptable, if they are a beer drinker you buy a beer glass, champagne or Prosecco = a flute. If they don't drink alcohol you can buy latte/hot chocolate or water glasses.

I'm slightly amused by the pen recommendations! I absolutely love a pen- and actually recomended my new favourite down the thread. But I heard Obama talking about going to cast his postal vote and when they got to the mail box one of his young aides said "what's that?"🤣

Thommasina · 24/10/2024 16:57

Some of these look a bit middle aged - I do stockings for a 22 and 25 year old and there's quite a few things I wouldn't put in. But also some useful suggestions!

Thommasina · 24/10/2024 16:59

Although having said that I know the thing they will swoon over is the cute mini bottle of rose "chicken wine" 😅 as that wine with a chicken on it seems to be A Thing.

Commonsense22 · 24/10/2024 17:56

My favourite idea.on thus thread is the perfume atomiser. Going on my list!

lifeturnsonadime · 24/10/2024 18:01

I bought the vegan perfume minis for my daughter, great thread!

LadyGabriella · 24/10/2024 18:06

Hotel chocolate is generally not nice, HOWEVER they do little chocolate macarons for about £9.95 that I can attest are very nice. I like the white choc and milk choc one. Only thing worth buying there, aswell as the ice cream/coffee.

Hididi11 · 24/10/2024 18:06

Can never go wrong with food

Biscuits
Nice china cup
Good coffee
A pair of high quality socks

Yes, we are all different as I can't imagine an etched glass as being luxe or posh!

MikeRafone · 24/10/2024 18:33

Im not into creams lotions or potions, most of these things end up in the back of a draw or regifted

I don't burn candles either as asthmatic, yet am gifted generously candles that smell divine

MikeRafone · 24/10/2024 18:34

am I the only one - I meant to add - these things are lovely but utterly wasted on me.

Normallynumb · 24/10/2024 18:39

Cuisinart wine bottle opener
£15 from their website!

I was going to say the same! A single, personalised glass is tacky IMO and something you might get at an 18th or hens party! Then you shove it at the back of the cupboard to never be seen again!
Honestly, if you were having friends around/dinner party, would you really get out nice glassware for everyone, then have an etched, personalised one for yourself??? 😆

Clearly, everyone is different though.

savvy7 · 24/10/2024 18:54

An idea I got from.Mumsnet last year was a mini bottle of Chambord raspberry liqueur. The bottle is beautiful and the contents taste nice too.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/10/2024 18:55

@Lifestooshort71 yep- I thought the same too

Chestnut134 · 24/10/2024 19:20

Thought I’d drop a few more “trendy” gifts for the gen z women as I think a few people found my previous comment helpful:

So interesting! I think there are loads of great ideas on here but (sorry) I think those glasses look absolutely naff and I would never ever use one. That would be straight to the charity shop for me, along with the suggestions of the jigsaw puzzle and body spray (also sorry!).
Luxurious food items, cashmere socks and little items of quality makeup/skincare would be very well received!

Ophy83 · 24/10/2024 19:58

Space masks - eye masks that warm up, they're so good if you need a relaxing half hour. Also work amazingly if you ever get a headache that hits you behind the eyes.

You can give one person a pack of 5, or if giving to multiple people give everyone one each alongside a moisturising face mask (something suitable for any skin type so not overly scented or exfoliating) and their preferred drink be it a m&s cocktail in a can or fancy tea.

Pigtailsandall · 24/10/2024 20:01

Yep you definitely need to know a little of the person so you don't give a beautiful fragranced candle to an asthmatic, or chocolates to a diabetic!

Last year my stocking also had a room spray from Neom - not this one but similar and I loved it

I'm also going to fill my niece's stocking (she'll be 17) with some reusable makeup remover pad thingys, and a nice makeup brush

You have great ideas for younger women - any more that would be more male orientated?!

MustIthough · 24/10/2024 20:21

Gosh I hope my family are watching this thread, I would LOVE an atomiser. Ditto le crueset mug. Nice wool socks or a uniqlo thermal vest which incidentally my sister did gift me one Christmas which I still love and wear. Yeti mugs used daily in our house(small ones) personally I would steer clear of skincare as it is so individual. My lovely dad gives us (3 grown up girls) expensive skin care gift sets every Christmas which we all I think regift or still have sitting on our dressing tables. Cosmetics and skin care are so personal however a good make up brush is never frowned upon!

LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain · 24/10/2024 20:40

Depends, are they the horribly oldfashioned type of younger people? Are they posh posh? A brand like Uniqlo is a high street basic, could hardly be more unposh. If they are the tweed-wearing, crafting younger people, they seem happy with the things I'd also have got my very eldest long-deceased aunt (and would consider too 'old' for me). Fine cross stitch silks and UK knitting wool and whatnot. (I have no idea why they are wearing brooches and male-equivalent brooch-like things, but they are.) Vintage knitted ties for the blokes. If they are the On Trend types, I probably wouldn't know them well enough to buy for them! Are the men alternative? They might appreciate nail polish and manicure sets of their own.

Things I've known under-35s to covet or to buy:
corsetry; church incense (not for church); things for knitting; novelty buttons etc. for customising clothes; Edwardian or Victorian nighties or collars (vintage or in the style of).

When I was under 30 I liked gifts like Swiss knives, letter openers, or other stationery or handy items (especially if a little gentlemanly); fancy sugar paste animals from a local cake shop; silk scarves. Hated pens and have lost or given away several pointlessly posh ones with zero regrets.
