Posh adult "stocking" presents

I need some posh small presents. 4 for men and 4 for women. Maybe 10/15 quid each? I want them to be a bit out of the ordinary-and something they won't want to recycle immediately. The recipients are between 23 and 28.Any ideas?

@Chestnut134 do you have a link to the engraved Dior lip oil. That sounds lovely but I can’t find it.

If you're travelling between now and Christmas, something unique from wherever you've travelled, maybe from an artisanal market? Could be food/drink, but needn't be.

Depends, are they the horribly oldfashioned type of younger people? Are they posh posh? A brand like Uniqlo is a high street basic, could hardly be more unposh. If they are the tweed-wearing, crafting younger people, they seem happy with the things I'd also have got my very eldest long-deceased aunt (and would consider too 'old' for me). Fine cross stitch silks and UK knitting wool and whatnot. (I have no idea why they are wearing brooches and male-equivalent brooch-like things, but they are.) Vintage knitted ties for the blokes. If they are the On Trend types, I probably wouldn't know them well enough to buy for them! Are the men alternative? They might appreciate nail polish and manicure sets of their own.

Things I've known under-35s to covet or to buy:
corsetry; church incense (not for church); things for knitting; novelty buttons etc. for customising clothes; Edwardian or Victorian nighties or collars (vintage or in the style of).

When I was under 30 I liked gifts like Swiss knives, letter openers, or other stationery or handy items (especially if a little gentlemanly); fancy sugar paste animals from a local cake shop; silk scarves. Hated pens and have lost or given away several pointlessly posh ones with zero regrets.

Edited

As someone in mid-30s, your lists of things that under 35s covet and things you liked under 30 are genuinely fascinating to me! I can honestly say I’ve never even considered buying any of these things but I do quite like a posh pen 😂

I bought the vegan perfume minis for my daughter, great thread!

If you mean the Floral Street ones, their perfumes are lovely 😊

@Chestnut134 brilliant thank you. Perfect stocking filler. I don’t see a clear one. Did you mean the pale pink?

savvy7 · 24/10/2024 21:12

Also Neom do a hanging star diffuser.for 5 pounds

LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain · 24/10/2024 21:14

@Newposter180 I'm occasionally terrified by teens to early 30s people reminding me so very much of my late aunt

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/10/2024 21:21

A bit cheaper, but the National Trust do very nice looking packs of stem ginger in dark chocolate, and ‘Cheese and chilli Bites’. Available from the online shop for £5-6 - ish.

The Sh! Women's Erotic Emporium in Hoxton seems to be closed, but it would have been a good source of slightly naughty gifts

AdoraBell · 24/10/2024 21:33

I’ve bought Loccitane hand creams, small ones for travel/hand bag.

Also splashed out for DDs and bought Chanel lipsticks/nail varnish but that may be over your budget.

Yes it comes out clear - but looks pink in the bottle

Papyrophile · 24/10/2024 21:52

I am shamelessly bookmarking because I have recipients for the revolutionary cards, and the rebel tea towels, and several other suggestions.

In exchange, I offer you Corrymoor Mohair Companion socks. Not itchy, never smelly, unisex, lots of colours, wash well and they will become everyone's favourites. I get complaints when there isn't a pair. Anyone who has chilly toes, and who walks or works outdoors adores them. About £15 a pair, but the mutt's nuts of socks.

You have great ideas for younger women - any more that would be more male orientated?!

I’m not as good on boys I’m afraid! But some ideas that pop to mind:

  • Gymshark gym bottle
  • Gymshark gym bag - the hold-alls are quite in atm
  • AU vodka in a cool flavour
  • Hip flask from Stanley
  • Fierce aftershave discovery set from Abercrombie
  • Abercrombie or Hollister pyjamas (probably best for a son/nephew you know well - and yes these brands are defo back)
  • PlayStation store/microsoft (Xbox) gift vouchers for gamers
  • Ralph Lauren gym towels
  • Vintage football shirt of their favourite team
  • Sports massage guns
  • An all-in-one bedside charger for phone/earpods/apple watch
  • mini-projector for bedroom
Monkey1z · 24/10/2024 22:26

one of those ice trays that makes huge balls of ice that cool your drink without diluting it.

Pleaseandthankyou · 24/10/2024 22:29

Thanks @TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack love those crackers. @Chestnut134 lip oil personalised and ordered. This is a great thread.

caringcarer · 24/10/2024 22:29

I second the mini bottle of champagne.
Turtle Dove hand warmers.
Belgian chocolates (Leonardis)
Bar of handmade rose soap

Bottle of Captain Morgan's
Leather wallet
Travel cup
Ferrari key ring

Elektra1 · 24/10/2024 22:41

For the male recipients, Horace shower gels and other stuff like beard oil etc has gone down well with my DS (22) as a stocking filler.

For the female recipients, Glossier make up, a little bottle of Moroccan Oil hair stuff, mini bottle of Living Proof dry shampoo, or any of the mini things they have at the counter in Space NK. Or what about a book? Also I always put a scratch card in my adult kids' stockings, bit of fun.

I have been eyeing up hip flasks as a present to self :D

I'm kind of put off Abercrombie https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cgj4j05wy31o

Is Aquascutum a thing? Or Fjallraven?

Aquascutum looks good but I think fjallraven probs not a thing for men of that age bracket.

if I’m not mistaken, he’s the old CEO of Abercrombie and no longer has anything to do with it.

Chestnut134 · 24/10/2024 22:49

Desktop Henry Hoovers are quite cool too for those who are working from home regularly! Cleans your keyboard and the crevices in your monitor etc

visualfeast · 24/10/2024 22:50

I absolutely love the Manicurist Active Glow Polish that came in the last Liberty Beauty Drop box (and I think most of the posters on the Beauty Drop MN board did too!) It's £16

Ah you see Aquascutum for me is what 'the old people' (poshly) would have worn. So it has all come round. (Yeah that's the old Abercrombie CEO but so often there's a culture...).

What climates/regions do they live or travel in? Mine skew cold so things like fjallraven are more all-age (I've been lectured on the miracle of merino undies by a 30-something native of Deep Coldness but couldn't really recommend her choices as stocking fillers!) Skewing warm would mean different treats. Even Aberdeen vs Brighton would mean different treats!

Yeah that’s true! I live in London. The “old money aesthetic” as it’s being dubbed has had quite the renaissance - seeing lots of Barbour jackets knocking around, Ralph Lauren jumpers etc.

If you like the idea of gifting nightwear/loungewear and also like the idea of gifting ethically then check out Tom’s Trunks. I can honestly say it’s some of the best quality stuff I have and has got better with washing it. Small business and “slow fashion”.
