Thread 6 - the one with Otis and the Christmas miracle

@Cupofteaandbiscuits and @NewtyCutey loved the happy reunited story with Otis.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Have you signed up for marketing emails? I have and get sent various discounts quite frequently. Today was a scratch card thing that gave me 20% off. I would share but it looks account specific and I am considering some jeans for DD. I think there's a new customer discount maybe too. Worth a try.

Thanks for this suggestion @ProbablyOnlySellOne. I’ll update my preferences to receive marketing emails 🤞🏻

I'm planning to get my MIL a digital photo frame for Christmas - one with an app so we can all send her pictures - but I don't know whether to spend £££ on an Aura or Kodak one for the name, or whether the unbranded/knock-off ones on Amazon for half the price are just as good (especially if I also buy the 2 year warranty for a few extra quid). Any wise words appreciated 🤗

rhubarbhandsoap · 19/10/2024 19:23

Hotel Chocolat code, I know this offer has been shared but in case this code is different might help someone 🥰🎄

For any F1 fans, the official store has up to 40% off with code ZOOM40.

Unfortunately doesn't stack with any other codes and the delivery is pricey at £6.49.

Just been on a wander round B&M. I didn't find the bargainous gingerbread houses but I did find these rather cute Christmas cookies. 2 for £1- perfect for putting on my team's desks at work 😁

They are beautiful, but do check the ingredients, if you known you have vegetarian/vegan/Muslim colleagues. Most of these glazed cookies have gelatine in the icing.

If they don't, please let me know, as I will go and hunt them out 🤣

Hello all,
Iam looking for a reasonably price toy kitchen for my little one for Christmas If anyone sees any on offer would be great to know!

thanks in advanced

We got the smyths on last year for £50, and it's down to £40 this year and it's been such a good buy! And looks nice in our living room haha!

Joiedepotato · 19/10/2024 19:34

Dormouse1940 · 19/10/2024 18:18

I saw this one in Smyths the other day: Smyths Kitchen
It looks a lot like one we got DS1 years ago from Asda I think- it's survived 2 house moves and is still being played with by DS2 8 years later!

We bought that kitchen for DS when he turned two, he's 3.5 now and it looks exactly the same, it's really good.

@Smileatthesmallthings and others, here are the hobbycraft jellycat style softies, 3 for £12, chuffed with them. There was all sorts, milkshakes, pretzels, hot chocolate, tomatoes, aubergines, different cakes.
I walked around the whole shop and found them in big bins at the till.

My parents got my Nan this one last year and all of the family have the app to send photos and short videos. Didn’t take long to set up, the only issue is my nan who keeps getting confused and switching it off 🙈

For the person who was asking about the camera for a child, I purchased a kids dinosaur digital camera from Amazon for my 5 year old grandson who loved it. Not available now but they have a similar one Kizzee Fun Kids Camera for £19.99. Not the same one so can't vouch for the quality of it but it might be worth a look. Sorry I don't know how to do links.
Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions on this thread, given me lots of ideas

LostMyRubySlippers · 19/10/2024 19:53

Discount Dragon have toblerone advent calendars for £3.99 today only. Also few other hood bits in their Christmas section- few decorate own gingerbread sets down to £4 from rrp £15! And Christmas scented washing up liquid, snow globe liqueurs etc.
With the foods you need to keep an eye on the BB dates as some are past the date/ short dated but it does tell you in the description.
They also have surplus stock from craft gin club for decent prices

I agree with @MyLifeMyChoices that I am not an aquabeads fan!

The kids love aquabeads, but from a practical standpoint they aren't a patch on the Hama's.
You create the shape and then spray the aquabeads, you then have to wait overnight for the shape to dry, and if it wasn't quite touching in all the places you then have to re-wet the shape and squish it together and then wait while it dries.

With the Hama beads you have to iron after you've made the design, but once ironed it's immediate and then you can make another new design straight away.

Hama beads also have loads of different shapes plates to make loads of different designs and there is a lot of inspiration online.

The one thing I would say is if you decide to go for Hama beads, buy the Hama brand! We have bought cheaper non branded perler beads before (the big tub from IKEA) and the beads aren't uniform so they don't iron well. The Hama branded beads are brilliant and absolutely worth the outlay.

We’ve never had to wait overnight for them to dry! If you spray them too much then you’ll have a problem but with the right number of sprays it doesn’t take long at all - and they last (my DD has a little collection, some going back a few years!).

Ah sorry, it’s not a branded water bead
