Thread 6 - the one with Otis and the Christmas miracle

Reastie · 18/10/2024 12:51

@Cupofteaandbiscuits and @NewtyCutey loved the happy reunited story with Otis.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Jaques of London have 25% off at the moment. Good for traditional games and toys.

My Harry Potter tshirt bundle IWOT order was cancelled this morning n a refund issued, in case anyone else has been waiting. I expected it but still a bit disappointing.

Finally I can add something! The Bridal Beauty Co has mystery goodie bags for £30 (plus postage of £5). I’ve had these in the past and have been delighted with them, I’ve had Strivectin which is very expensive.

Looking for suggestions please. Have DS10 and DS12. They are starting to get a bit stinky! Was hoping to posdibly get some sort of body spray for stockings as a surprise. Can any recommend any that aren't too over powering? (Not looking at lynx!). Wondering if the FCUK ones are any good as can get a set of 3 for £13 in boots (and they are in the 3 for 2 gifts). They use a sea mineral scented shower gel which they seem to get on with ok.

I found FCUK good when mine were that age, also the David Beckham ones which are often on offer.

CaneToad · 19/10/2024 08:16

@44PumpLane and@fluffytail - I think you’re a little unfair to Solace!

They offered Silver 1, Silver 2 and Gold. Offering Silver 1 and 2 (I thought) made it clear that they had two different sets containing 3 silver earrings. And then, by implication, one set of 3 gold earrings.

It didn’t say anything about lucky dip or random or anything like that. It was just “3 pairs for £10” and you didn’t know ahead of time what you would get.

When I bought two of one set (silver 1) I was expecting them to be the same item.

Thank goodness they were as they are for sisters, both with 3 piercings in their ears, and I can’t be bothered with bickering if they were different!

They actually work really well for wearing at the same time - small hoops, bright studs and tiny wee leaves.

To clarify, there's no minimum spend for the pick up so you can just get the one item or items totalling less than £35. Apologies, not sure that was clear

I discovered this recently! It also avoids the overspending which happens to qualify for free delivery Grin

My DP has requested Peugeot Salt and pepper shakers for Christmas (life is thrilling in your 30’s isn’t it 🤣).

I have had a look around and they are very expensive! If anyone knows of any discounts or sees them anywhere on sale please let me know 🎅🏻

My DH still uses the FCUK body spray 😂 much better than Lynx!

I have seen these historically in TK Maxx (I haven't looked recently). They were good prices but it did involve picking up just about every salt and pepper mill to look at the bottom and identify the Peugeot logo

My Peugeot pepper mill has the logo on the top on the little brass knob. It’s a genuine one too. Hope that helps? ( and saves time when looking?? )

CaneToad · 19/10/2024 08:53

@ImageMirror - they’re expensive but they’re like Le Creuset casserole dishes and should last a lifetime!

The only place I’ve ever seen them that wasn’t very expensive was the TK Maxx spin off Homestyle , like @PlanBea says, but stock levels were erratic at best.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 19/10/2024 09:00

Regarding Peugeot peppermills. John Lewis currently have a nice boxed set with various peppercorns for £59. Apparently it is price dropped from £85.

Alternatively, if you want to be double wanky, you can get this Fortnum and Masons embossed Peugeot peppermill in the classic Eau de nil colourway

The kits are from the same factory that make the real kits so you honestly can’t tell the difference, the quality of the kits is very good. Just quite long delivery times and you don’t really get any updates once the order’s placed.

Are they just adults, cant find any kids ones?

ImageMirror · 19/10/2024 09:02

@RainbowZebraWarrior thank you so much! Love this thread. I probably will go extra wanky, it is Christmas afterall 🤣

They do kids as our son has quite a few.

https://www.soccer04.store/Kids-c133954.html

our son is 11 but wears a 9 to 10 years and we usually get a size 24. The retro kits come up smaller so I’d size up with those. The kits wash well too.

Too early for a thread title suggestion really but love the idea of the one where we all get double wanky because it's Christmas! 😂

weebarra · 19/10/2024 09:31

Mid-season sale at BAM clothing. My boys love their socks and boxers.
Also lots of bargains to be had in the Hollister sale, with an extra 15% off for members.

Was someone asking about Halloweeny bits for a hot chocolate station before...? I'm doubting it was on a Christmas shopping thread but can't think where else I read it.
If so: these are in Aldi.

That was me! Thank you, will have a look in our local one.
