Thread 6 - the one with Otis and the Christmas miracle

1000 replies

Reastie · 18/10/2024 12:51

@Cupofteaandbiscuits and @NewtyCutey loved the happy reunited story with Otis.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@Vimaybe thanks for the reply, yes I think there's an error on it.
I created a new account using DH's details and that wouldn't let me save anything either.

Looks like we need to set an Amazon alarms!

The voucher is still showing for me

The voucher is showing for me too but the starting price is £19 amd if I've read the OP right, the starting price was £15 with a £4.99 voucher!

FilthyforFirth · 21/10/2024 21:47

Ceejadess · 21/10/2024 21:44

It’s £15 on Argos with the 25% off code too

Ah amazing, thank you, will head to Argos. My boys are 3 and 7 but honestly I think will really enjoy it!

Wonderfulstuff · 21/10/2024 21:51

FilthyforFirth · 21/10/2024 21:41

I went to get the bath toy and it has immediately gone up in price! Now £19 and I can't buy it knowing it was £15 mere minutes ago!

It's the same price on argos with code BABY25... and they pay UK tax! :)

SeaOfBliss · 21/10/2024 21:52

FilthyforFirth · 21/10/2024 13:57

You're very kind to look, thank you!

@FilthyforFirth I tried my local flying tiger. No snake toy unfortunately but there is a dinosaur version

I think Lush do a £3 discount for your first online order maybe? But apart from that their only sale is on Boxing Day. I'd recommend going for bubble bars, I always ask for the snow fairy one for Christmas and get around 10 good bubbly baths out of each one as you break pieces off instead of using the whole thing like bath bombs. Or the bottles of shower gel, they're pricey but you only need a little bit so they last a while.

Speaking of Lush shower gel, Lidl dupes are in store at the moment at 3.99. Very similar packaging and I can’t tell the difference in smell. They have the rose one, and the honey one.

(I swear I don’t spend my whole time searching for discount retailer toiletry dupes! 😅)

fishfingersandchipsagain · 21/10/2024 22:19

These look nice. Glass jar filled with sweets and with a message on the jar. Buy one get one free, so £6 for two.

There are a load of other things in the offer too (found them after looking for the Treat Company baking bottles like the Vodafone offer).

Colour in Christmas gingerbread house curently half price on Hobbycraft at £10 (tho may be one of those items not worth paying full price for?), but think would be fun for Xmas lead up or on Christmas Day.

If you use code HC515 it’s £5 off £15 so please tell me what your go to products/presents at Hobbycraft are that might interest a nearly 4 year old DD and 6.5 year old DS?? Too young and unappreciative for posca pens..:..

@Dinomum24 I can definitely recommend the Lidl play kitchens! DS has one, it’s 3 1/2 years old and though he doesn’t play with it as much now, it still gets plenty of use as any visiting kids seem to gravitate towards it 🤣 It has lights and sounds (tap, hob and microwave) too. We also liked the Aldi wooden play food sets, and the Ikea fabric ones (pizza especially!). The fabric options are good as they have a bit of friction ‘stick’ which helps little ones out - some of the wooden stuff, unless it has Velcro, slides all over the place and it’s really frustrating for them.

These paint your own money boxes are good from Hobbycraft - and only £2.50. We built up quite the collection when my two were a bit younger! (Also fab to have a few stashed away for birthday parties etc throughout the year)

@RainbowZebraWarrior - I have used chuckling cheese website several times and always been really pleased. They usually have offers on- a spin the wheel for discount type thing. I think I got a recommendation from this board a couple of years ago!

Doublebubblegum · 21/10/2024 22:31

Also the Hobbycraft suncatchers - £1 each so good stocking filler for younger kids and handy if you're trying to get to £15 order value but just falling short!

Do Lush ever do any discounts? My 11 yo DD is just getting into all their products and would love a selection of bits from there....but they are so pricey!

Lidl have some ‘dupe’ Lush shower gels at the mo. Around £2 for a big bottle! They definitely do the Rose Jam scent, according to my DSD17, ‘not quite as potent, but a bargain’😂 (which is just as well as she’s having another in her stocking!)

YorkshireWelsh · 21/10/2024 22:40

Possibly a bit ‘local’, but if anyone is near Wakefield, their Smyths has £6 off a £15 in store spend until Saturday (26th).

Smyths Wakefield Voucher

They also have the Lego advent calendars reduced, so DS’s Lego City one (£19.99 down to £16.99) ended up being £10.99 with the voucher.

@Donsyb yes please to a Teapigs referral if that’s still ok?

I recommend setting it up in advance of wanting to play it.

I was wondering if I should do this. You’ve convinced me! Thanks for the advice

Rubyroo73 · 21/10/2024 22:50

As a reminder, it’s your Last chance for the No.7 bundle offer today on the no.7 (not boots!) website, which also has a free eye cream offer. Combines with free cleanser with £35 spend and free mascara with £50 spend.

I have just bought the restore and renew bundle with bag for £45 (saving £35), got the restore and renew eye cream (worth £22.95) for free and the restore and renew cleanser worth £17.95 for free. Added a couple of sheet masks at £3.50 each saving £1.25 each) and as this took me over £50 got the stay perfect mascara worth £14.95 for free. Free delivery too so all that for £51.99!

I've added my referral to the referral thread which gives £10 off with £20 spend and £10 credit for me.

great offer which I will split up as gifts.

@RainbowZebraWarrior this farm is local to me and I highly recommend their cheese. Looks like they have a 10%discount for signing up to a newsletter

Ooooooh I had the truffled brie from this company 2 years ago and still think of it. Hard to get round here. I'm trying to decide whether I can order a kg of truffled brie for myself for Christmas. It's much better value than the 250g one and so it's definitely a bargain.

tillytown · 22/10/2024 00:05

Another hobby craft code has popped up, this time on tiktok. It's TIKTOK515 for £5 off a £15 spend, not sure when the end date is.

InDreamland · 22/10/2024 00:06

Mattel Disney Wish Castle is down to £17.99 (can get additional 5% off with 4 qualifying items). RRP is £49.99.

Mattel Disney Rapunzel and tower set is £21.03. Not the lowest it's every been but still a good deal I think. Also can get an additional 5% off with 4 qualifying items .

IVbumble · 22/10/2024 00:59
