Thread 4 - the one with our Guylian best before fate

Reastie · 05/10/2024 19:23

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Those who ordered from Whistlefish last Sunday - has anyone received them yet? I've heard nothing yet, can't track either unless I have that annoying Shopify thing

I've received my Whistlefish package, very pleased with my order.

Pink fluffy electric blanket on online home store down to £31

Chaispice · 06/10/2024 14:25

Oo just starting my Christmas shopping and joining you all now.
I haven’t seen many great deals yet, but aldi do have lots of books for £1.99 including the ‘that’s not my..’ series which I thought was a great price. Good for stocking fillers for little ones.

I have a request if anyone sees a good bargain for a 1 and 2 year old with vegan and eco conscious parents. Just a token gift as they’ll be at a Christmas party we’re going to. If all else fails I’ll try find a suitable book.

Re Silver rain silver, is it a website? tried etsy but can't see any sale? Thanks

doctorboo · 06/10/2024 14:35

My youngest, 9yo, for the 2nd Christmas list in a row, has asked for a dj mixing board/table.

I started to look at what vtech has to offer, but had a little chat with him and I ^think* what he’s imagining is being able to create the music on the board and then be able to edit it on my ipad or laptop - both of which are ancient and a cause of frustration.

Should I continue with the vtech stuff or look for something else that is so easy his 42yo mum can troubleshoot.

Chrysanthemum5 · 06/10/2024 14:36

Silver rain silver is a website if you google that it should come up

Not had my whistlefish order but I expect they got a lot of orders and I hope they are doing well as a company. I really like their products

@Waffles21 thank you it's very kind of you to bother to look! I'd not be that worried normally but this is a big basket of numerous Christmas gifts and a code will make a lot of difference to the overall cost.. My DD3 lives relatively near an actual shop so I'll ask her to see if she can pick me up a catalogue next time she's in her town in the hope it will contain a code!

Hi, I have a code for 15% off if you spend over £50 on full price items. Free delivery too. PM me if you’d like it

Elpheba · 06/10/2024 14:38

@Chaispice lanka Kade wooden figures are a good bet- they have some Christmas ones or penguins etc for not much money. Fair trade and ethically made. Or anything from the babipur website would go down well I imagine!

Hi everyone.
Have finished DS3 but now making a start on everyone else.

stepson who lives in US (I married an American) has requested real tea. I love Twinings English Breakfast and ONLY drink this 😂but does anyone have any other recommendations of some nice tea sets we can get him/his girlfriend? Thanks! :)

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas in our house if DH and I didn't exchange Bird and Blend teas. DH loves anything with a Rooibos of Chai base and I like black tea. Their Christmas range is normally fun too.

Same here, hope all arrives okay

TheRedheadMummy · 06/10/2024 15:19

Thank you all! Fortnum and Masons looks a winner.. any advice on breakfast blend or royal blend? Or would you go for the 120 famous tea collection?

any good deals? We are out there for Thanksgiving so unfortunately can’t wait for Black Friday!

feeling out of depth with this request 😆we are going to pop some nice British bits in a hamper for them so open to any recommendations! I have done the usual cadburys etc for them

Lisamari99 · 06/10/2024 15:20

online home store also have a shop on tiktok. sometimes tiktok gives money off voucher, and recently there's been free delivery in general over £20.

• Tunnock's teacakes and caramel wafers
• Haribo: especially fried eggs, always have friends exclaiming how nice they are
• Peppa pigs
• Popadums eg the mini ones in crisp bag style
• Terry oranges, esp now there are several flavours incl plain!
• Jaffa cakes, incl the bizarre ones out now (cola??)

I do not recommend bringing a wheel of Stilton through hand luggage. You will definitely get stopped and pulled aside, it looks like C-4 on the scanner 🫣

recklessgran · 06/10/2024 15:32

@GoldenGlobes thank you so much for your kind offer but I'm happy to be able to tell you that I'm sorted now thanks to a couple of other very kind posters here. Hopefully you can help somebody else in the same predicament. There is, and always has been such kindness here - it's just so heartwarming!

my husband was traumatised at fried egg sweets 😂we did take over flying saucers last year and they thought I had given them packing peanuts by accident 😂

love these though, thank you. I am adding them to the list! Except for Stilton 😆
