Thread 4 - the one with our Guylian best before fate

Reastie · 05/10/2024 19:23

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Bloody hell that’s really shit, they must have been on the ball to use it so quickly.

Sorry I can’t help with a code but it might be better if people PM you if they have one. I hope you get sorted.

Thank you @IggyAce for the mountain warehouse heads up - my friends son is going skiing so I’ve passed the info on to her!

Now it is my turn to ask for help …. Every year I get my ds a dark chocolate toblerone which you used to be able to buy in the supermarkets. For the last couple of years I have really struggled, lots of people tell me that WHSmiths sell them but last year I think I tried 3 different branches with no luck. One really kind mumsnetter sent me one in the end which seriously saved Christmas! So if anyone knows where to get one, please let me know! DS is 22 and this has been the tradition since he was 8!

I don’t know if you have a Cadbury outlet near to you? There’s one in Portsmouth but not sure if they had them but will look next time I’m there x

recklessgran · 06/10/2024 09:16

@Beautifulsunflowers I'd be more than happy to get you one in duty free at Stansted - flying out 8th November for a week in the Canaries and I know they have the giant size dark ones there as I'll be getting one myself for my own adult DGS who's 26! Please let me know and I promise I won't let you down. x.

Waffles21 · 06/10/2024 09:21

Thanks for the frother recommendations everyone, will take a look😃
reckless gran, I thought I had a code for you but turns out it’s expired, sorry, hope somebody else can help.

recklessgran · 06/10/2024 09:27

@Waffles21 thank you it's very kind of you to bother to look! I'd not be that worried normally but this is a big basket of numerous Christmas gifts and a code will make a lot of difference to the overall cost.. My DD3 lives relatively near an actual shop so I'll ask her to see if she can pick me up a catalogue next time she's in her town in the hope it will contain a code!

A plea for help - DS has asked for the toot toot set that makes the animals talk about an iceberg. Does anyone know which set this would be please? Have asked Vtech support but they haven't replied weeks later.

That's sounds like the Animal Safari Park. It has a Polar Zone or Arctic Zone with penguins etc and I think there's a splash pool with a mini iceberg in the middle. (I think the animals say "watch out for the iceberg" or something. I think it's discontinued, but there are plenty on Vinted and Ebay.

recklessgran · 06/10/2024 05:40

Please does anyone have a White Company code. They're not taking any more catalogue sign ups at the moment which is how you can normally get 15% off. I would be eternally grateful if anybody can help with this as I have an eyewatering amount in my basket. Thank you so much...

I have a 10% off plus free delivery code if that's any use?

Let me know and I will PM to you in order to avoid another snatch.

recklessgran · 06/10/2024 09:37

@RainbowZebraWarrior that would be brilliant if you don't need it yourself I really would appreciate it and thank you so much - you're about to save me over 20 quid!

Fuckingfuckssake · 06/10/2024 09:37

@Beautifulsunflowers hello 🙋‍♂️ would you believe I have another Dark Toblerone in the cupboard (same relative keeps buying them) happy to post to you again this year, feels almost traditional!!!

Just PM you with 10% code but I see you have had another sent - please feel free to pass it on.

Sideorderofchips · 06/10/2024 09:45

Claires.com has 40% off everything incl sale and 50% stuff using code fun40

IlovePond · 06/10/2024 09:47

@TheresNoTelescreen

Here’s a picture of it, but yes, it seems like it’s been discontinued. Perhaps your little one saw it at a friend’s house or at nursery.

As other people have said, there are some secondhand versions available. Its original price seems to have been £42.99 (according to the site below that originally reviewed it):

Hi everyone.
Have finished DS3 but now making a start on everyone else.

stepson who lives in US (I married an American) has requested real tea. I love Twinings English Breakfast and ONLY drink this 😂but does anyone have any other recommendations of some nice tea sets we can get him/his girlfriend? Thanks! :)

recklessgran · 06/10/2024 09:49

@RainbowZebraWarrior please would you like to offer your code to anybody else here that might benefit as @Waystation has already pm'd me hers? Really appreciate all the trouble everyone has gone to to help me.

MulberryPeony · 06/10/2024 09:59

I was also going to suggest Betty’s for tea. They do a nice Christmas spiced tea in a tin.

Trumpton · 06/10/2024 10:04

Looking for discount code for Celtic &Co. I love their slippers but can only find 15% off. Might hang on a while and see if they send me a better deal.
Superb slippers, dd gets horrible chilblains as a legacy of frost nip and they are the only ones that keep her comfy. All the family have them now!

DeathStarCanteenGal · 06/10/2024 10:43

@Trumpton try this for £15 off Celtic and Co - looks generic so posting here

Peacocks had some nice traditional tartan ones in if that’s your style- about £10 a pair I think.

Alongthepineconetrail · 06/10/2024 10:54

@Beautifulsunflowers my local B&M stock Toblerone in different flavours so it's worth looking in there. Home Bargains and the pounds hopefully are also good places to look.
