Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

This code also worked for me, thank you so much.
we are finally having planters in the garden next year and as a newbie I’ve bought seed packets, delivered for under £20
fingers crossed I can make them grow!

Ooo good luck!!

One more recommendation please - warm lined, shorter waterproof wellies. I've seen lots that say they are lined but it is only on the leg part and the warmth needs to be for the toes. Ideally not a super bulky pair, for someone with arthritis. Thank you!

I'm not sure of your budget and these are not hugely bargainous (but are on sale... plus Ugg were dangling 10% off for first purchase etc.)

www.ugg.com/uk/chevonne-boot/194715634107.html

I have some in the olive colour and they are great. Super lightweight, really easy to get on and off because of the stretchy bits around the sides (I am usually grappling with a wet dog and need to be able to get them off fast! They don't do that awful suction thing.) And they also have sheep skin soles. Win. If you get them, i would size up. I'm usually a 36 but got a 37, and they are perfect.

I have recently bought the girls in love books from the works £10 as Jacqueline Wilson has released a follow up for adults so wanted to refresh my memory and then my daughter can read them

Has anyone else had issues with Claire’s recently? My DD loves their stuff so I’ve placed a few orders over the past few months but all of them have ended up having items cancelled due to items being out of stock (when they were in stock at the time of order).

This is usually just disappointing but on my last order I used £10 reward points and paid a bit extra on top. They cancelled half of the order due to stock issues, so the order total of the two items I received came to less than the amount paid by cash. They automatically refunded a couple of pounds cash but they haven’t given back the £10 reward points!

You can only contact them by email and customer services take 3-4 weeks to respond at least - I’m still waiting for a response with an issue from a month ago, and now I’ve had to email about this too! Just seems like terrible service all round from such a well known store.

This happened to me also (my item was OOS after placing the order). I lost my £10 reward points, and couldn’t be bothered to try and get them back. Like a previous poster said, I no longer shop with them now.

@oriel2013 I’ve used OHS a lot and can’t fault it. I’ve bought Oodie style hoodies, bedding, water bottles, blankets, teddy bedding all sorts over the years. Most stuff really good quality. A couple of bits a bit thinner than I’d like but not bad.

@TheGriffle Can I ask how you found the quality of the oodies from there please? Thanks

Amazonmulu · 02/10/2024 07:11

A few years ago people mentioned glasses cloths with your photo printed on. Where were these from? 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

TheGriffle · 02/10/2024 07:14

@autumnleaves8888 I really rate them, they’re not the real Oodies with the tags cut out, and I think their brands can also be found on Amazon/Ebay but they were thick and warm and still going strong 2/3 years later. I got them for me and my DD’s and have no complaints. The ones I got have a sheepy fleecy style
lining so really warm.

Can anyone tell me what the link for barista bath toy was? I’ve blinked and missed it

Morrisons Christmas food shops are open for delivery pass holders

CarrieMoonbeams · 02/10/2024 07:25

Hi @Amazonmulu , I got mine from eBay a few weeks ago. £2.75 including postage, with a photo of one of our dogs which will make DH laugh because she's forever stealing his cloth! Only took about 10 days or so to come, which I thought was pretty good.

It's a bit smaller than a normal glasses cloth, about 15cm (6 inches) square but it'll be absolutely perfect.

Yes also had issues when ordering online, have stuck to just going in store now. Very frustrating because my local one isn’t huge so not a big selection

Ilovepugs2017 · 02/10/2024 07:43

@oriel2013 i was the one who recommended them. I done an order with them recently for the first time and ordered some clearance stuff. Kids oodies, a weighted blanket for DD and duvet sets and they all look great!

@djfjfj and others with problems with Clare's, I messaged them on insta and got a reply and refund within 24hours after waiting weeks for a reply to email.

Thanks.

I would stick to the store but it’s not convenient to get to, plus we had a poor experience there too the last time we visited it: they had one of their offers on and the sign said ‘includes almost everything’ so we checked with the assistant at the desk whether an item DD really wanted was included before she started adding items to get the deal. Yes, we were told, so she spent ages shopping for other items only to find out when we went to pay that the original item that we’d checked wasn’t included in the deal 🙄 - the original assistant who had told us it was had gone to the back of the store by that point and the manager refused to check with her or budge despite the new till assistant wanting to let DD have the items (that made it worse, as DD could see they could override it if they wanted to - the assistant queried it more than once). So we left with nothing apart from a very upset DD, and neither of us really want to go back after that.

Got home and I checked the website and most of the items she’d chosen were significantly cheaper online even without the offer, so that was one of the (unsuccessful) orders I placed.

I’m going to attempt to get the points back then save them until we visit a store in another town! Apparently I’m a ‘bestie’ so they sent a code for a free £10 item instore too which also needs to be used.

Cupofteaandbiscuits · 02/10/2024 08:32

Another one who has had issues with Claire’s. Had three deliveries from them. Every time stuff has been out of stock and I’ve had to argue for the points to go back on and every time many of the items have been broken and I don’t mean a little dented, they have been completely smashed. So glad I live near a Claire’s now so can go in as DD loves their stuff but delivery was dreadful!

Cupofteaandbiscuits · 02/10/2024 08:32

Do smyths ever do discount codes? DS would like the panini football card advent and I’m looking at the cheapest way to get it!

daisyboo1 · 02/10/2024 08:41

@44PumpLane thank you for your help with the Smart Games. Will have a moochie on their website today.

MilkyBadBoy · 02/10/2024 08:55

@Cupofteaandbiscuits ok I’m in. DH and his BFF would go crazy for this (both in their 40s) so watching out for this with interest. I’ll let you know if I can find anything…

MincemeatMaestro · 02/10/2024 09:01

Another thanks for the Tank Museum tip. Six books ordered for less than £24 for difficult to buy for male family members, and not a single one was about tanks😄
