Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

The cheese in that advent calendar is the same as the one sainsburys sell. I got mine reduced for £2 last year

Wonderfulstuff · 22/09/2024 13:24

Hey has anyone seen any good deals on Barbie clothes please? I can't believe how expensive they are! Thank you :)

I got loads on vinted last year for a good price, excellent stocking filler

Confusedmeanderings · 22/09/2024 13:29

Not Christmas as such, and not a discount, but if like me you like reading lots of magazines and newspapers then signing up to Readly can be a cheap way of doing it. It costs about £9 a month and there's no limit to how many magazines you can download. I don't think you can save them, but when I see something I want to keep, I screenshot it. I put the screenshots into a onenote document. There's lots of Christmas magazines at the moment - I can never resist those!

OnionBag · 22/09/2024 13:36

@Confusedmeanderings a lot of libraries offer Readly free for members, might be worth checking that too 😊

IggyAce · 22/09/2024 14:07

@Wonderfulstuff check Poundland and home bargains they sometimes have barbie outfits in.

These threads are amazing- just read it from page one and ordered the lego dots pencil holder and some earrings from hot Diamonds!
I remember on a similar thread last year there was talk of a whiskey advent calender. Does anyone know which brand is the best value? Would like to get one for dh this year

I must have missed the pencil holder, could you link please?

okayhescereal · 22/09/2024 14:19

Just popped into Aldi to check out the toys event....meh.

Lots of those squishy pillows that seem to be mentioned on here (Also in home bargains). Few good looking sticker books but overall rather underwhelming.

They did have pumpkin shaped casserole dishes though. For autumnal lovers. Happy equinox to ya'll!

Sorry my question isn’t Christmas related but I thought you lovely ladies might be able to help. I’ve seen before the bubble skincare mentioned is it good for sensitive skin? My 11 year old has started getting forehead spots and we have tried simple and Cerave but she says they both sting her face

I’d recommend Spots and Stripes, it’s made with lovely gentle ingredients and suitable for that age - my 11yo DD uses it. You can buy it on Amazon. It’s not a bargain though unfortunately, I think it’s around £14 but we’re still on the first bottle months later.

LoveLolly · 22/09/2024 14:30

Don’t forget ikea for large stuffies, they even have a reuse area with discounts.

@Distractiontactics - I just got the survey - maybe you have to work up to the receipts thing/invitations to it are limited? I don’t know how I feel about doing that anyway, but will see how it works, assuming I ever get invited to it!

mumonthehill · 22/09/2024 14:40

Amazon panel if you click on rewards in the app it tells you how to upload receipts.

44PumpLane · 22/09/2024 14:52

I've seen it mentioned too many times now and finally succumbed and ordered the £2 Adam Frost book to wrap up for MIL for Christmas 🤣

Summerdew · 22/09/2024 14:56

@juicyjellybaby DD12 uses bubble and it’s pretty gentle. DD11 uses Byoma (they wanted different 🙄) and she has painfully sensitive skin and it’s fine (she can’t use face paint for example as it leaves a red mark for days afterwards). I used to buy spots and stripes as that’s supposed to be amazing but they wouldn’t use it 🤷🏻‍♀️tweenagers!!

IlovePond · 22/09/2024 15:01

Thanks @mumonthehill

I'm sure I saw someone asking about duck advent calendars?. Just to say Wowcher have them for £8.99. I haven't ordered so don't know what they're like. Hope this helps someone 📆🌲🎁🎅🏻

Dunk19 · 22/09/2024 15:13

Thanks @ShinyPrettyThings87 that's really helpful

Dunk19 · 22/09/2024 15:13

@ImTheMidsomerMurderer sorry thank you to you!

1sttimeposter24 · 22/09/2024 15:16

I’ve just joined Amazon shopping panel to but no where on the app you upload receipts unless you email.
I was thinking the same about having to wait to get to the receipt part

IlovePond · 22/09/2024 15:25

I think I read somewhere @1sttimeposter24 that you have to be invited to download receipts- nowhere to do it on my account page either.

ImTheMidsomerMurderer · 22/09/2024 15:28

@Dunk19 mine arrived, I'm quite pleased.

ImTheMidsomerMurderer · 22/09/2024 15:32

Notino sent me 2 £5 discount codes that can be used when spending over £18 ( but not on the discovery boxes ) if it's any good to anyone?

IlovePond · 22/09/2024 15:34

Hi,

SUMMER15 gives 15% off at St Eval and it works on the a/c.

It’s in my basket, but £37.40 still seems quite a lot for 24 tealights and a holder. I wish they’d put in a couple of mini diffusers too for a bit of variety and a couple of candles.

Looks nice, though.
