Reastie · 21/09/2024 11:08

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I'm looking for a dupe of Jo Malone wild bluebell cologne. I haven't had much luck, I've looked at the suggested sites like perfume parlour and they seem to have dupes of many of the fragrances but not this one. Has anyone seen one? The Jo Malone one is out of budget but recipient happy to have a dupe.

My son has the Usborne Chess Book which is good x

Thank you

JeanMarie · 28/09/2024 11:41

@Turtleoo Jenny Glow has Forest Bluebelle. I haven't tried that one but their pomegranate and lime and basil are excellent Jo Malone dupes.

LittleRedY0shi · 28/09/2024 11:54

Ooh, while we're talking about HP bits, has anyone seen reasonably priced chocolate frogs? Doesn't even have to be bargainous - all I've found so far is £4 each, which is just ridiculous for 15g.

Blessedbethefruitz · 28/09/2024 12:18

@LittleRedY0shi Doesn't m&s have them?

GPNightmare · 28/09/2024 12:41

M&S has chocolate frogs for Halloween. Or 260g for £5.99?

1L of Bailey's is £13 in Tesco with a Clubcard. One may have fallen into my trolley!

imnottoofussed · 28/09/2024 12:49

Tkmaxx has a couple of Harry Potter jigsaws, some wand pens and a wet brush just search for Harry Potter on their site

redwinechocolateandsnacks · 28/09/2024 13:12

I was going to suggest the Potions Cauldron in York. I've just bought the chocolate frogs bottle and a few other bits (for birthday and Chistmas) to get me to free shipping. No amazing bargains but some unusual bits and better than the really expensive chocolate frogs.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 28/09/2024 13:23

I love these threads! I don't have a lot.of.presents to get, but it's nice to see all the suggestions of all the places I've not heard of.

I'm not super well at the moment, and have a long haul of treatment ahead of me, so I'm trying not to waste my energy traipsing around. I normally buy my Christmas cards from the charity shops, does anyone know if they are in stock yet? The postage costs are normally quite high if you order direct from the charity, so I'd rather get them in person, but need to conserve my energy, and I'm not going out much so not just passing!

Lego Minecraft Crafting table set is currently £64 on Amazon - usual price of £80, if there are any older Minecraft / Lego combo fans around.

Does anyone happen to have a Vodafone code please

I know there's already been a lot of love on this thread for Whistlefish, but I just have to add my voice as my order has just arrived and I'm so delighted with them. I bought them because they had a sale on, looked nice online and I liked the idea of having cards ready for upcoming birthdays for once.

What I didn't realise was they also come with minimal packaging (no plastic wraps), many are made of 100% recycled card and use vegetable based dyes, and they're designed and made in Cornwall. They were packed in gorgeous printed cardboard packaging (should I admit I'm thinking of putting part of this on my wall as a piece of art?). The cards themselves are large, beautiful and really high quality. I know I must sound like I work for them - I don't, but am just really impressed.

They still have the 10 cards for £10 offer on, plus 15 Christmas cards for £10. Postage is free over £25. They also seem to be offering some free Christmas wrapping paper this weekend for orders over £25.

I got mine from amazon
It usually goes down to 16.99, see camelcamelcamel for when (assume it's prime day)
Gift was really well received! Bought myself one too. It was fun and felt quite high end, glass measuring jug and bottles etc

Just ordered this for dh, it’s our anniversary on Monday and I’ve been really disorganised but I think this will go down a treat. Thank you

My husband regularly buys these from Drinks from the Dram.

They sell on Amazon and their own website. They definitely have regular offers, especially on Black Friday.

@Notdeckingthehalls my 2 liked How to beat your dad at chess.

Lots of secondhand copies for not a lot at places like World of Books

Having ignored all the clarins stuff I now find I need some. I've missed the set that was on offer at John Lewis - any other good deals about for minimum outlay please?

Vimaybe · 28/09/2024 14:09

Has anyone seen any of those magnetic tiles on offer? I need a set each for DS and nephew.

I was in a few charity shops today - there were Christmas cards out in one out of three I went in, so I think it's probably a bit early. Though it's probably area and charity dependent!
