What do you buy only at Christmas that's available all year

Inspired by another thread where a poster commented that another buys Pringles for Xmas when they are available all year....

For us
Cranberry sauce - I never bother rest of year even though I love it with bacon and Brie
Brie come to think of it, prob because of the cranberry thing
Chocolate oranges
Baileys
Those teeny tiny pickled onions
Mini marshmallows for hot chocolate (in December really)
Tubs of dry roasted peanuts

No logic in most of it. I know I could buy but I just don't.

One friend says she likes it on breakfast cereal.

😁I like it, start the day as you mean to go on

DisabledDemon · 23/09/2024 13:30

Baileys (unless, during the course of the year, I get a sore throat. Then it's mandatory)
After Eights
Large tins of sweets

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 23/09/2024 13:40

Stilton
Beef joint
Smoked salmon

These used to be more frequent purchases, but CoL has outbound to that

AdoraBell · 23/09/2024 13:41

This year I no clue 🤦‍♀️ need to get my thinking head on.

backawayfatty1 · 23/09/2024 13:46

Used to be beetroot & pickles onions - partner thinks I have weird choices. Now I love pickled onions - great snack & daughter loves beetroot so we are always stocked up Grin

For us it’s the same as a lot of PP
joint of beef (can’t be arsed with a turkey)
gammon joint
pigs in blankets
pannettone
and Quality Street (Heroes, Roses etc etc)

Mine is York Fruits, but these have been discontinued and you can only get them on Amazon now, so that doesn't really count 😪

Also:
Port
Bucks fizz
The oranges with leaves on that come in a box 🍊
Brie
Pastry and sausagemeat to make sausage rolls

I think you can buy York Fruits in Iceland. (The shop) I had to source them for a prop in drama and they are really lovely. I’d never thought of buying them before.

pinkfondu · 23/09/2024 18:34

Benedict's mints

ButterAsADip · 23/09/2024 18:56

Any cheese other than cheddar

Mainly because I’d be even fatter if I did

PanettoneSoprano · 23/09/2024 18:57

@shangrilalala recently?! I'll have to go and have a look!

Shangrilalala · 23/09/2024 20:22

My auntie says they are smaller than in years past, but that’s shrinkflation for tou!

housethatbuiltme · 23/09/2024 20:35

Sometimes I get chocolate nuts and liqueurs which would be rare to get at other times although I go liqueurs at Easter this year.

Viennetta and Angel Delite are xmas traditions.

Mini Pizzas, we get them for breakfast every xmas and I don't even think anyone actually likes them but DH is stuck in his ways.

Kitkat1523 · 23/09/2024 20:43

Sprouts
chestnuts
stilton cheese
boxes of chocolates
box of assorted crackers for cheese ( jacobs)
tonic water
poinsettia plant
christmas pudding
Fentimans fizzy pop

@JingsMahBucket Neat with ice, in coffee, in hot chocolate, over ice cream, in an espresso martini, use the milk frother and create a kind of cream that can go on top of hot drinks or cold dessert.

Also makes a delicious cheesecake! Be warned if you search for 'baileys recipes' it's a slippery slope...

@okayhescereal @kab89 thanks for the memory jog. It’s been forever since I bought some. I also just remembered my SILs love a glass of Bailey’s with ice. I’ll ask them if they want to get some this Xmas.

And yes to cheesecake! I made a Bailey’s cheesecake in the instant pot and a Bailey’s chocolate trifle a few years back. Mind you, it was with the M & S version of the drink but they were both delicious.

Ruthietuthie · 24/09/2024 00:35

@JingsMahBucket, Bailey's cheesecake sounds GOOD. I've also made a Bailey's trifle (think it was a Nigella recipe), Bailey's tiramisu, and Bailey's ice cream. All were DELICIOUS. Bailey's should be a year-round drink, I think, so why do I never remember to buy any apart from Christmas?

Kiuyni · 24/09/2024 08:01

If i drank baileys all year round I'd be the size of a house. As it is, I have to restrict myself to one small bottle over the Xmas period.

Shufflebumnessie · 24/09/2024 11:01

After Eights
Chocolate orange (the dark one!!)
Nibbly bits like Twiglets, pretzels etc
Clotted cream

lilkitten · 25/09/2024 15:28

Roses and Quality Street (Celebrations and Heroes are too recent, I like the 80s memories)
After Eights
Tried Toffifee last year as I felt that must be a Christmas thing
Sherry
Millions of Chocolate Oranges

I loved the flavour of Baileys, but I always felt ill and subsequently found out I'm lactose intolerant...just as it seems they stopped selling the vegan version :-(

Oh you can't beat some mini pizzas!! We usually have them on our Christmas eve buffet.
