Inspired by another thread where a poster commented that another buys Pringles for Xmas when they are available all year....

For us
Cranberry sauce - I never bother rest of year even though I love it with bacon and Brie
Brie come to think of it, prob because of the cranberry thing
Chocolate oranges
Baileys
Those teeny tiny pickled onions
Mini marshmallows for hot chocolate (in December really)
Tubs of dry roasted peanuts

No logic in most of it. I know I could buy but I just don't.

Twiglets. For some reason they never taste right unless they come in those Christmas decorated tubes

Cheese footballs, brie, Stilton camembert, boxes of chocolate biscuits rather than just packets, trifle, custard, frozen desserts like roulade, gateau etc.

Omg!
Yes cheese footballs- I can eat a tub in one night

I always make a really delicious carrot side dish (sort of like carrot mash with garlic and parsley butter) and wonder why I don't make it at other times - as it's not expensive and we all like it - and then I promptly forget about it until next Christmas

Autumnweddingguest · 21/09/2024 21:53

Blue Stilton with Hovis biscuits shaped like loaves of bread. Never have either of these at any other time of year. Love them at Christmas.

Sponge fingers and raspberry jelly to make trifle. ( I know real trifle has no jelly. Ours does. It's tradition.)

I'll also add Good Housekeeping magazine (the Dec edition is usually out around Guy Fawkes night-ish)

GH is the only one I buy now (and only this one) they;re all adverts and same-y

@StiffyByngsDogBartholomew Recipe for parfait, please? It sounds very interesting!

This is similar, I can't be bothered to get out of bed to get the relevant recipe book 😂

it does require a sugar thermometer and a free standing mixer if you're going to try it :). Other recipes are available but this has the hallmark boiled honey and glucose syrup cooking the meringue.

i can't wait to eat it again, I only make it at Christmas. We used to have it on the a la carte menu when I worked as a pastry chef a very long time ago and it's been a favourite ever since. I serve it with apricot coulis.
