So what time tomorrow shall I hit the supermarkets?

Will it be heaving?

When are you going?

I went today and that was bad enough. Be strong OP.

bossybloss · 22/12/2023 19:12

I am getting there for 6:30

purpledagger · 22/12/2023 19:12

early - 9am ish.

i was at the shops today and whilst they weren't heaving, they were busy and the car parks were a nightmare.

bettynutkins · 22/12/2023 19:13

Early before 8am.

Yes.

Today, was heaving. Queues well into main road to even get into car park and actual shop very busy.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 22/12/2023 19:13

Go as early as you can. I popped into Asda on my way home from work and it was so busy there were no trolleys left by the entrance at all.

Lovemusic82 · 22/12/2023 19:15

I’m collecting a food order at 9am from Morrisons (just Turkey and pigs in blankets), when I ordered it I thought I was collecting from click and collect (outside) but seems I have to go inside. I’m now wishing I hadn’t ordered, it’s going to be chaos tomorrow morning and the whole point of me ordering was so I didn’t have to join the chaos.

SausageCasseroles · 22/12/2023 19:16

Hmmmm. See I thought 9am was "early" but I'm now wondering about 7.30...

GreenLight23 · 22/12/2023 19:17

I’m getting up at 7am and going to be at the shops for 7.30am.

Lottapianos · 22/12/2023 19:17

I was in this morning at 7.30am. it was pretty busy but not heaving, no queues at tills. Wouldn't want to leave it much later

Serene135 · 22/12/2023 19:18

As early as you can. I went today and it was awful. Picture this:

  • Car park full to the brim and cars swerving around me narrowly missing my car as they panicked to get a space
  • Trolleys all gone so I had to trek around the car park to find one
  • People snatching and grabbing while others pushed past (on occasion ramming a trolley into my back)
  • Families wandering around, some with two trolleys overflowing with stuff
  • Huge queues (and I mean huge)

I got there around 10:30am.

I got out of there as fast as I could 😂

SausageCasseroles · 22/12/2023 19:19

Might aim for 7ish...

I went to a smaller Tesco at 7:30am today before work, it was blissful - very quiet, plenty of everything, staff lovely. Can you find a smaller supermarket near you and go before 8am?

MistyMountainTops · 22/12/2023 19:21

Online pickers start at 5.00am and night team don't finish until 7.00am, you won't be able to move if you go in too early, mid afternoon is usually but better.

KingofCats · 22/12/2023 19:22

I’m going tonight at 10.30pm. Late always works better and most of the big supermarkets have extended their opening hours and restocked for the morning!

SugarCookieMonster · 22/12/2023 19:22

We were in Aldi at 8.45 after dropping DS to school and it was pretty calm.

We hit Asda by 10ish and there were no trolleys, long queues even for the scan and go bit as they were doing full trolley re-scans on several customers 🙄.

Our small local Tesco at 11 was fine to walk around but the queues were long.

Go as early as you can!

QuillBill · 22/12/2023 19:24

I'm going at 6.15. It opens at 6am so that give the first flush a chance to get through the vegetable section.

I went yesterday just for a couple of ordinary things like milk and you couldn't move.

2Old2Tango · 22/12/2023 19:25

My local supermarket opens at 6am and I intend to roll out of bed and get there then. I only need a few fresh bits, but because the supermarket is close to the shopping centre (and is free form3 hrs), people park there to avoid paying a couple of quad to park at the shopping centre. Hence I'm going early to get parked more than anything. Once that's done I'm walking the dogs, having a clean up and then relaxing for the rest of the day.

@Lovemusic82 depending on your store, a lot of morrisons have outside collection points for Christmas Food to Order (separate from click and collect) so you may well avoid the store if you don't need anything else

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 22/12/2023 19:29

I went to the supermarket for 6am this morning. Awful. Couldn't move around aisles freely. Shoppers were corralled towards the checkouts by a long series of ropes and posts, which was a good/fair system. That is, it's fair enough queuing when you've finished shopping but most people in the queue were stood with empty trollies while hoards of relatives played supermarket sweep, dashing backwards and forth with armfuls of stuff, over filling the trollies of the 'queuee'.

I was bemused - will be more organised with multiple family members next year. Smash and grab.

Not seen that before.

PumpkinPie2016 · 22/12/2023 19:49

I went on my way home this afternoon - about 2pm. It was absolutely heaving!

Had to hunt the car park for a trolley.

Cheese ailse was gridlocked and the queues for checkouts were really long. Thankfully, I did scan and go which helped.

I would go as early as possible and just prepare for it to be very busy.

Letstrysomethingnew · 22/12/2023 19:50

Even the coop was hellish today and traffic locally was awful - rush hour complete with loads of pushing in and cutting up at 2.30pm!

Go as early as you can - but not so early that the store's early morning lorry delivery hasn't been put out on the shelves yet as I did one year 🤦

RepetitiveMotion · 22/12/2023 19:53

I collected a food order from M & S in my allocated time slot at 11am today and it was fine, all well organised. Then I went to the main food section as I needed a few extra things and sailed through the self serve checkout fine, too. Even managed to get a rarer than hens teeth free parking space in town too!

Jk987 · 22/12/2023 19:56

No time. Eat your freezer/cupboard/dried stuff!

Thank you, hoping I can collect quickly and leave, I have a time slot of 9-9.15am.

Pushkinini · 22/12/2023 19:58

Aiming to be at Aldi for 7.30am. They open at 7 so that should be enough time for the early risers time to have moved on through the veg. I have a big list but want to be home by 8.30 to tackle 'the big Christmas clean up'.
