I’ll start,
O Holy Night.

Something about this Carol that makes me all arm and Christmassy inside 😍

Il Divo version gives me goose bumps...

delilabell · 10/12/2023 08:27

Oh I was going to say that. @FartNRoses
Also silent night

HardcoreLadyType · 10/12/2023 08:28

My favourite is Oh Come, Oh Come Emanuel, which, strictly soaking is an Advent hymn.

Orangelover · 10/12/2023 08:28

O come, all ye faithful. Absolute belter.

imnotthatkindofmum · 10/12/2023 08:47

Oh little town of Bethlehem and once in royal David's city always make me feel very Christmassy..

But a Carol service should also always include
Ding ding merrily on high
Oh come all ye faithful
Silent night
And we 3 kings with the different verses performed by solo male voices of a choir

Perfection!

The worst Xmas carol is the angel gabriel one which says "most highly favoured lady" I don't know why but it just grates on me!

ThereSnowLimit · 10/12/2023 08:51

There are so many lovely ones and I love all mentioned so far. But I’m going to go for O Little Town Of Bethlehem.

Soccermumamir · 10/12/2023 08:53

Definitely 'Oh Holy Night'.

Bex268 · 10/12/2023 08:56

@Orangelover agreed and as you get to o come let us adore him, with each line you get louder and louder, takes me right back to primary school 🥰

Nonplusultra · 10/12/2023 09:23

So hard to choose. O Holy Night gives me shivers but my favourite rendition was a tenor in our church choir when I was a child, and I’ve never found a comparable version.

Edwardandtubbs · 10/12/2023 09:26

I’ve always loved The Holly and The Ivy since I was little. It’s rarely sung these days so I absolutely belt it out if it comes up during a service ☺️

my fave is probably O Little Town of Bethlehem as I find the melody very pleasing and I love the last verse

ElinoristhenewEnid · 10/12/2023 09:28

Hark the herald angels sing is a real celebration of Christmas!

ACynicalDad · 10/12/2023 09:29

Three kings from Persian lands afar

StillWantingADog · 10/12/2023 09:31

Not a traditional one but “Carol of the bells”

on a more traditional note “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” does it for me

Highlyflavouredgravy · 10/12/2023 09:36

Oh Holy night gives me goose bumps. Absolutely beautiful.

I also love 'the first tree in the green wood it was the holly'- really catchy

Oh come all ye faithful

I love most carols to be fair!

dressedforcomfort · 10/12/2023 09:45

I think you've missed the point of the thread

Hark The Herald Angels, especially the descant near the end.

Mumdiva99 · 10/12/2023 10:03

I the bleak midwinter is my top top favourite.
"What can I give him?
Poor as I am
If I were a shepherd
I would give a lamb
If I were a wise man
I would do my part
But what I can I give him
Give him my heart"
This makes me cry every time!!

My favourite modern Carol is It was on a starry night. "And all the angels sang for him.... the bells of heaven rang for him. A boy was born. King of all the world. "

SutWytTi · 10/12/2023 10:04

Also I Saw Three Ships

CurlewKate · 10/12/2023 10:12

In the Bleak Midwinter or Lift up Lightly the Stable Bar, depending on circumstances.

FartNRoses · 10/12/2023 15:56

Some beautiful carols mentioned here, some I’d actually forgotten!
