I’ll start,
O Holy Night.

Something about this Carol that makes me all arm and Christmassy inside 😍

O Holy Night
In the bleak midwinter

From the squalor of a borrowed stable
On Christmas Day

Wtafis · 10/12/2023 16:27

Huron Indian Carol

Born in the night (Mary’s child)

Kucinghitam · 10/12/2023 16:35

Candlelight Carol
Carol of the Bells
O Holy Night

PollyannaWhittier · 10/12/2023 16:35

So hard to choose ! I love lots of the ones that you hear a bit less often
In the bleak midwinter
See amid the winter's snow
Sussex Carol (on Christmas night all Christians sing)
Sans Day Carol (the first tree in the green wood it was the holly)
Il est né le divin enfant
Angels from the realms of glory
Mary did you know ?
The shepherds' farewell

And I've always loved calypso carol (see him lying on a bed of straw) !

Adeste Fideles and Silent Night

medianewbie · 10/12/2023 16:47

'In the Bleak Midwinter' is lovely, & often overlooked.

toprump · 10/12/2023 17:35

"It came upon the midnight clear", just beautiful lyrics. "Beneath the angel strain hath rolled two thousand years of wrong... oh hush the noise ye men of strife, and hear the angels sing."

And I'm a bitter old atheist.

stepintochristmas1 · 10/12/2023 17:42

I have to say One in royal David's city . I think it must have been the carol of my primary school's choice , it just makes me feel cocooned and safe .

Sidebeforeself · 10/12/2023 17:44

@FartNRoses O Holy Night is my all time favourite - listen to Carrie Underwoods version..100% goosebumps!

Reallybadidea · 10/12/2023 17:46

The Reginald Jacques arrangement of Away In A Manger is the only carol to have ever brought tears to my eyes. Actual weeping when DS1's school choir sang it one year Blush

sprigatito · 10/12/2023 17:46

Mine varies, but at the moment it's "Quelle est cette odeur agreable" sung by the choir of Clare College Cambridge

Bicorne · 10/12/2023 17:47

‘It Came Upon A Midnight Clear’.

Foxglovesandprimroses · 10/12/2023 17:50

Ding Dong Merrily on High

Love the Glooooooooooooriaaaaaaa bit. You can really give it a bit of welly.

turkeyboots · 10/12/2023 17:52

Hark the herald angles sing.

I can smell the school hall when I sing it. But I love it.

ArsenicInTheAppleTart · 10/12/2023 17:52

I find O Holy Night a bit...karaoke. Feels like every Bublé and their mother has covered it.

rainbowruthie · 10/12/2023 17:55

I love 'It was on a Starry Night' sang by small children - just beautiful

bitofashit · 10/12/2023 18:02

Once in royal David's city

FartNRoses · 10/12/2023 18:02

@Sidebeforeself thanks for the tip. I will check it out.

@turkeyboots so true. My school hall used to smell of school dinners. It gives me such a nostalgic feeling!!!

@ArsenicInTheAppleTart Noooooooooooo….! You can’t say that 😝😝😝😝

We sung Christmas Carols at our wedding (it was a NYE wedding). Everyone was singing so loudly, it was lovely. The carols have been mentioned here 🥰

ODFOx · 10/12/2023 18:19

Good King Wenceslas.
'Those of you who bless the poor shall yourselves find blessing'

AnneShirleysNewDress · 10/12/2023 18:25

Good King Wenceslas for me too. I also love Ding, Dong! Merrily on High.

HermioneWeasley · 10/12/2023 18:27
