I'm hosting Christmas this year with both sides of our family attending. I've been planning the menu for Christmas lunch and never realised before how many options there are for dessert! No idea how I'm going to make the decision.... So, I'm curious to know, what do you have for dessert after your Christmas lunch / dinner?

Christmas Pudding
Yule Log
Mince Pies
Traditional Christmas Cake
Alternative Christmas Cake (not fruit cake!)
Something else - let me know what you have!

If you have something else - let me know what you go for as I'm looking for some inspo 😇

This year we have a choice of 2 puddings as me and dp have different tastes...
Toffee and pecan roulade
Dairy milk brownie cake

This year there will be a choice of home Made sticky toffee pud, (bought) meringue roulade or viennetta. The vienetta is because DC thinks it’s fancy!

Christmas pudding pour over brandy and ignite, turn the lights down as you bring it in. Brandy butter to go with. I usually do the Christmas cake on Christmas Eve so that is also available if people prefer. And cheese and biscuits in reserve...

Usually not much gets eaten, too much starters and dinner, but still good the next day.

When I’ve hosted a lot of people I’ve done 2 options as no one likes Xmas pud here but me

Mince pies - choice of homemade cinnamon ice cream (delia) or brandy butter
Semifreddo - I’ve made in a basin with half cherry and half chocolate hazlenut - turn out and drizzle with chocolate so looks like a Xmas pud

i like semifreddo- can be made days before, taken out at end of meal leaving time for space after main, and is then no work at all on the day. It’s indulgent but lighter than xmas pud

Viennetta... a classic

mondaytosunday · 07/12/2023 16:06

Christmas cake and apple pie or crumble with ice cream or cream.

MilkChocolateCookie · 07/12/2023 16:06

We will have a choice of two - Christmas pudding for tradition and trifle for those who aren't keen on Christmas pudding.

Yule log will be on Boxing day, we don't normally bother with a Christmas cake, and mince pies are more of a snack than pudding here.

Sommerled · 07/12/2023 16:18

Christmas pudding with full on flambe-ing and yule log as an alternative.

We have Christmas cake and mince pies with a cup of tea rather than as dessert.

Lizzieregina · 07/12/2023 16:20

in recent times we’ve had sherry trifle, sticky toffee pudding and tiramisu.

Comedycook · 07/12/2023 16:22

Always a Yule log for the children.

Mince pies and Christmas pudding for everyone else

howlismoving · 07/12/2023 16:23

We have Christmas pudding also full on flambe-ing! And my mum's Irish Whisky cake for those who don't like it!

sprigatito · 07/12/2023 16:24

Christmas pudding with brandy butter and double cream, followed by mint chocolates.

Movinghouseatlast · 07/12/2023 16:26

Christmas pudding with brandy sauce or Nigella's chocolate Christmas pudding with chocolate sauce and cream. We usually wait several hours for pudding!

Peridot1 · 07/12/2023 16:27

I like trifle. DS only likes brownies. DH prefers cheese and biscuits.

so I’m making trifle! And brownies.

I have a whole Pinterest board of other lovely ideas too. But too much for just us three.

Planning something nice for New Year though.

MatineeLaughs · 07/12/2023 16:28

Christmas pudding
Trifle
Ice cream for any little ones

Keep it simple and traditional

Pashazade · 07/12/2023 16:31

There's a lot of us so usually something light like meringue, something fruity and something indulgent ie cheesecake. There's also usually Xmas pud though not many people eat it. Then leftovers for the following day!

mummyof2boys30 · 07/12/2023 16:31

Biscoff cheesecake or apple tart and icecream.
DS wants icecream and bubblegum sauce. We dont like any of the traditional christmas desserts

MonkeyPuddle · 07/12/2023 16:32

We have a nostalgic family pudding, called orange and ginger pudding. It’s layers of broken ginger biscuits, mandarins and cream. Make it the night before and it’s like a combo cheesecake/trifle. We’ve eaten it for years at Christmas.

geoger · 07/12/2023 16:34

profiteroles and pavlova along with Christmas pud and mince pies and chocs Yule log

orangegato · 07/12/2023 16:34

Christmas pudding made into an ice cream and made into a strudel. Shop bought yule log and custard.

TeenDivided · 07/12/2023 16:35

Christmas pudding, trifle, mince pies or fruit salad.

idontlikealdi · 07/12/2023 16:36

Something lemony, christmas pudding for mum and mil as they're the only one that eat it and something chocolate or cheesecake for the kids, they've asked for the M&S Rudolph cheescake again this year.

Then CHEESE

CalamityA · 07/12/2023 16:38

Marmalade and dark chocolate pannetone bread pudding.

Christmas pudding

Trifle

harriethoyle · 07/12/2023 16:38

I'm doing a mini Christmas pudding with Brandy cream and then lemon posset for those of us who don't like Christmas pudding (everyone but fil!)

OnlyCorrect · 07/12/2023 16:40

Always hot Christmas pud with the trimmings for traditionalists
And something cold / fruity / chocolatey in any combination e.g. last year chocolate and chestnut yule log (chocolatey) and tropical fruit pav (cold&fruity).
This year will be apple strudel and cream and chocolatey tiramisu-trifle bastard thing.
