I'm hosting Christmas this year with both sides of our family attending. I've been planning the menu for Christmas lunch and never realised before how many options there are for dessert! No idea how I'm going to make the decision.... So, I'm curious to know, what do you have for dessert after your Christmas lunch / dinner?

Christmas Pudding
Yule Log
Mince Pies
Traditional Christmas Cake
Alternative Christmas Cake (not fruit cake!)
Something else - let me know what you have!

If you have something else - let me know what you go for as I'm looking for some inspo 😇

I don't eat desserts, never really seen the point of them.

Bah humbug to you too 😂

Just made a huge tiramisu. I have a chequered past with Christmas desserts ( unset pannacotta, hard poached pears skidding across plates) so this is my foolproof dessert and I’m so relieved it’s now chilling in the fridge! 😉
😮Hope that was cocoa powder I dredged on the top and not
bisto powder…..😂

We have our lunch around 12:30/1:00 then I put a little spread out for later. Couldn't possible fit a desert in straight after dinner, but a glass of Baileys doesn't go a miss 😆

My family has always had Black Forest gateau with cream from as long back as I can remember.

Mediocrates · 24/12/2023 12:47

Sherry trifle, Black Forest gateau (very 1980’s but we all love it), raspberry meringue roulade, Christmas pudding, double cream, brandy butter, Baileys cream

To me none of those things are dessert. Those are the things you eat after dessert with a cup of coffee.

Cornishclio · 24/12/2023 13:11

We don't usually have dessert after Christmas dinner as too full. We may have it mid afternoon or after a sandwich or crackers and cheese/pate in the evening. We have cheesecakes/Vienetta/mince pies/chocolate log or crispy crème Christmas doughnuts this year. Or fruit cocktail for those who want to avoid processed sugar.

BlueGrey1 · 24/12/2023 13:19

Eton mess, / meringue roulade

AnotherEmma · 24/12/2023 13:29

Christmas pudding and chocolate Yule log, those two are absolute essentials in my book.

We do have mince pies over Christmas but I don't really think of them as dessert after the main Christmas meal - more something you'd have hours later with a cuppa, or with the Boxing Day buffet.

I'm not a fan of Christmas cake, personally, prefer warm Christmas pudding with cream.

If we ever hosted Christmas for a large number of people and did more desserts, I think trifle is quite traditional, we'd certainly do something "lighter" and maybe fruity.

I usually offer Christmas pudding, cheesecake, Yule log and cheese and biscuits. I do cater for a hoard of people at Christmas.

Tiramisu. Made it this afternoon as it improves overnight.

43ontherocksporfavor · 24/12/2023 19:50

Christmas dinner is around 3 pm so dessert would be about 5.

ValkyrieAssassin · 24/12/2023 19:53

We are a bit boring. DH has Christmas pudding- he is the only one who likes it and i am Coeliac anyway.

This year I am making ice cream sundaes.

Plus loads of chocolate covered nuts.

@Soccermumamir Christmas dinner at 12.30? That’s so much to do in a morning! We’ll wake at 8ish and have breakfast then present opening then showers and get ready to travel 30 mins to first stop for drinks then on to family for dinner. We’ll arrive at 1.30 ish but dinner will be about 3 onwards.

Joonio · 24/12/2023 19:55

Little cups of lemon possett, pavlova and a cheese board with pears and grapes.

decionsdecisions62 · 24/12/2023 19:55

We've made a fresh lemon cheesecake but also have a chocolate torte.

Auntieobem · 24/12/2023 19:59

Pavlova, Pandoro and vienetta. (and I have a tiny Christmas pudding for just me!)

Zoreos · 24/12/2023 20:10

Vanilla cheesecake, profiteroles and chocolate Yule log. With a choice of ice cream or cream.

Gazelda · 24/12/2023 20:10

Home made Christmas pudding. Cream, ice cream, custard, brandy butter.

And an M&S dessert. DD and I traditionally go to M&S on Christmas Eve and raid all of their goodies. Spend far too much money and it's generally pretty stressful trying to find room in the fridge. But it's something we love doing together.

ErrolTheRednosedDragon · 24/12/2023 20:17

We have a break from eating and then a mince pie, maybe some chocs a bit later. We don't have room for pudding, or a starter.

Metallicant · 24/12/2023 20:46

Trifle

Lorralorr · 24/12/2023 21:09

Christmas pudding with brandy cream and a big exotic fruit salad!

Ladyj84 · 24/12/2023 21:14

I'm the only one who likes Xmas pud so sherry trifle, chocolate roulade, home made apple pie and all the yule log etc

JillwithaJ · 24/12/2023 21:58

Christmas pudding
Mince pies + Christmas pudding flavoured ice-cream.

TeamGeriatric · 24/12/2023 22:27

Far too late to be answering this, but it just popped up on my Facebook page today. We are having trifle tomorrow, last year we had a meringue roulade and we've had yule logs (both chocolate and gingerbread versions) in prior years, but neither roulade or Yule logs ever roll perfectly for me. Can be hidden with copious amount of ganache. Christmas pudding cheesecake did go down well one year.
