I'm hosting Christmas this year with both sides of our family attending. I've been planning the menu for Christmas lunch and never realised before how many options there are for dessert! No idea how I'm going to make the decision.... So, I'm curious to know, what do you have for dessert after your Christmas lunch / dinner?

Christmas Pudding
Yule Log
Mince Pies
Traditional Christmas Cake
Alternative Christmas Cake (not fruit cake!)
Something else - let me know what you have!

If you have something else - let me know what you go for as I'm looking for some inspo 😇

Christmas pudding, but not until several hours after the main course when we're starting to get hungry again.

StillWantingADog · 07/12/2023 19:40

Christmas pud for me but there will be something chocolatey for the kids

mince pies are a later on Christmas afternoon sort of thing IMO

We are having mum's cottage cheese cheesecake. I make it a lot, it's a family favourite. I will serve it with raspberries. I can't find any recipes online for anything similar.
it's a digestive biscuit base, topped with a mix of cottage cheese, egg yolk, sugar, lemon rind, gelatine melted in lemon juice all mixed together then with with whipped cream and meringue folded in. It's light and delicious.

A fucking bottle of champagne all to myself and a fistful of paracetamol to preempt the hangover. Best Christmas moment ever.

FixItUpChappie · 07/12/2023 20:01

I'm doing a huge fruit trifle - cake, jam, custard with real whip cream mixed in (a la Mary Berry) and loads of berries/halved mandarin orange pieces. Did this last year and it was easy and delicious.

I sometimes make a pastry flan with mincemeat in and a layer of franzipan sponge on top and flaked almonds scattered on top of the sponge

DrMadelineMaxwell · 07/12/2023 20:28

I'll be making a streusel topped mince pie which is lovely and crunchy, to be served with whipped cream. And my Baileys cheesecake (non baked, BBC food recipe) which everyone always requests.

We have ours a few hours after dinner as no one ever has room straight after. We usually have Christmas cake, Christmas pudding, yule log and mince pies available, with cream or vanilla ice cream (none of us like brandy butter or white sauce. Also cheese, either to eat with the cake or with crackers.

matleavelove · 07/12/2023 20:37

Trifle!!

themusingsofaninsomniac · 07/12/2023 20:38

Thinking of making individual baileys cheesecakes.

But following in case I can be tempted to do anything else, particularly if it's less faff...

Vienetta because of tradition

KathrynWheel · 07/12/2023 21:05

Winter apple crumble.
"Wonky jelly" and cream for the kids ( jelly poured into individual glasses and then left in the fridge to set at an angle)
Mince pies with brandy cream, cheese and biscuits with port late evening

vivisector · 07/12/2023 21:30

Yule Log
Profiterole Stack
Christmas pudding
Either a trifle or panna cotta

Plus brandy cream, honeycomb ice cream

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 07/12/2023 21:40

Individual m&s trifle for 2 (decanted into posh coloured glasses with added cream on top to disguise it's been decanted). Vanilla ice cream handmade by our local Italian restaurant with fruit for 1, either chocolate cake or sticky toffee pudding with cream or ice cream for 2. Yule log and mince pies also available!

RoseAndRose · 07/12/2023 21:46

Something else - approximately my body weight in Quality Street

Edited to add: seriously, we've usually eaten ourselves to a standstill by then. But if I was going to produce an actual pudding, then it would be trifle or a charlotte russe

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 07/12/2023 21:50

Ris a la mande - cold rice pudding with hot cherry sauce

This year there will be a choice of home Made sticky toffee pud, (bought) meringue roulade or viennetta. The vienetta is because DC thinks it’s fancy!

Introduce them to Ferrer Roches 😂

BrimfulOfMash · 07/12/2023 21:52

Christmas Pud, aflame, served with brandy sauce. All home made.

WombatBombat · 07/12/2023 21:53

I’m going to ask DH to make a pavlova & then will probably have a Yule log and maybe a trifle over Christmas/New Year period.

StuckintheUSA · 07/12/2023 21:56

Always homemade tiramisu. The ones that you can buy in the shops here are not that great. And I'm not a fan of Christmas pudding or Christmas cake.

And I've just discovered how easy it is to make truffles, so I'll probably be serving some homemade white chocolate champagne ones.

LittleMousewithcloggson · 07/12/2023 21:57

Pavlova
Trifle

we never have Christmas cake or mince pies as a pudding. Usually offer them with tea or coffee mid morning or mid afternoon depending on the time we have lunch. They are also part of Boxing Day snacking

grayhairdontcare · 07/12/2023 22:20

M&S chocolate pine cones

yikesanotherbooboo · 07/12/2023 22:54

Christmas Pudding, fruit salad and something else.
We have a dairy and egg allergy person so often try something else vegan for them but haven't stuck on a regular pudding yet.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 07/12/2023 23:15

Fruit trifle, usually raspberry. DH has Xmas pudding.
