I'm hosting Christmas this year with both sides of our family attending. I've been planning the menu for Christmas lunch and never realised before how many options there are for dessert! No idea how I'm going to make the decision.... So, I'm curious to know, what do you have for dessert after your Christmas lunch / dinner?

Christmas Pudding
Yule Log
Mince Pies
Traditional Christmas Cake
Alternative Christmas Cake (not fruit cake!)
Something else - let me know what you have!

If you have something else - let me know what you go for as I'm looking for some inspo 😇

If anyone wants a suggestion though, we just had the 'spiced rum and brown sugar pudding wreath' from ASDA for St. Nick feast.

It went down very well... is suppose to feed 10 but was polished off by 5 people (2 of them only being little).

Christmas pudding with brandy sauce. Not brandy butter - that's for the mice pies, which are also available for anyone who doesn't like Christmas pudding. There's also cheese after a bit of a pause.

I always make jelly and ice cream (and by make I mean use packet jelly and ready made Neapolitan ice cream) with some fruit salad. I also do a vegan version for me and my husband. Also have a pile of chocolate brownies on the go . It always goes down well as it's quite light after a big lunch

Whatever takes our fancy from M & S tbh

Positivelypatient · 07/12/2023 16:53

It is the law in our house that we have banoffi after christmas dinner / for breakfast the next day haha

Pifful · 07/12/2023 16:56

I do a Christmas pudding for those that want it plus a chocolate cheesecake for the rest.

@MonkeyPuddle - that sounds really nice. Fresh mandarins? Do you have a recipe?

@CalamityA - the marmalade and chocolate panettone sounds really good too.

WavingCatsandDogs · 07/12/2023 16:57

Homemade sherry trifle with booze free version for kids.

Malibu12 · 07/12/2023 16:57

Chocolate triffle 😍

Christmas pudding and brandy butter. Sometimes make a trifle (not this year).
Christmas cakes & mince pies served separately for tea/snacks.
Cheese & biscuits also available.

mrsbyers · 07/12/2023 17:00

Usually everyone drifts away and takes some desert later in the afternoon - my sis in law likes her pudding and brandy butter , profiteroles for some , trifle for others

43ontherocksporfavor · 07/12/2023 17:01

Homemade tiramisu or crème brûlée or pannacotta .
Always have a shop bought Christmas pudding for the flame moment and for the traditionalists.
Oh and cheese selection a few hours later.

MummyJ12 · 07/12/2023 17:02

Macarons,
Peaches in brandy with ice cream
Pears poached in red wine with cream or ice cream.
Trifle
Cheese!

Christmas pudding and warmed mince pies with either custard or cream. I will also mention that there is Yule log available for those who would prefer that instead. We usually have vanilla ice cream in the freezer, so there's always that too, and all manner of sprinkles in the baking cupboard for youngsters.

There's not a lot of point in going too overboard, people will be stuffed full anyway.

WhatNoUsername · 07/12/2023 17:09

Mince pies. Love them! DH has Christmas pudding.

VillageLite · 07/12/2023 17:12

We always have homemade chestnut and chocolate cheesecake on Christmas Day, I prefer something cold after the main meal.

The Christmas pudding comes into its own on Boxing Day after a lunch of bubble and squeak, cold ham and poached eggs.

Mince pies and Yule logs and traditional Christmas cake are for teatime, or after a sandwich or cheese and biscuits rather than after a main meal here.

Christmas pud or trifle

This year there will be a choice of home Made sticky toffee pud, (bought) meringue roulade or viennetta. The vienetta is because DC thinks it’s fancy!

I'm a child of the 80s - viennetta IS fancy! 😂

shellyleppard · 07/12/2023 17:19

We have the biggest black forest gateaux I can get. does Christmas day lunch and the late tea ( feeding five of us) !!! Alternative is vienneta or mince pies

DinosaurOfFire · 07/12/2023 17:20

Dessert starts with Christmas pudding, set on fire, served with brandy cream. Some people who don't like pudding will have yule log.

Then after that, we have coffee/ tea and mince pies with cream

And the Christmas cake gets cut at some point too after the mince pies.

FoxyLocksie · 07/12/2023 17:22

I usually offer a choice of Christmas pudding, ice cream or a chocolate tart of some kind. Most of us don't want anything though, as we're full from the main course.

TinaTotal · 07/12/2023 17:27

Home made Christmas pudding, made to my grandmothers recipe. So much better than shop bought.
I might get a cheesecake (or maybe make one?!) for my littlest ones who aren't keen on Christmas pudding.

trulyunruly01 · 07/12/2023 17:29

Birds trifle

Perfectly capable of making our own trifle, but it's something of a tradition

There might be a few defrosted eclairs loitering around

kernowpicklepie · 07/12/2023 17:32

Usually a variety on offer so you could have any of these:
Mince pie with cream
Traditional Christmas cake
Christmas pudding
Some other dessert (usually chocolate based)
Ice creams
