Thread 13 - the one with the loot from Black Friday

1000 replies

Reastie · 25/11/2023 06:56

13 - unlucky for some. Let's hope it's very lucky for us!

I bought a couple of things in the Black Friday sales - an amazon stick (I'm pretty sure we couldn't just bought a smart tv by now with the amount we've got through as they break after a year or so) and noise cancelling headphones for DD. Hope you're all getting through the lists - December is fast upon us!

In message two are the links and info from last year - if anyone has anything they'd like me to amend or add, please do tag me and I'll update.

A reminder not to post affiliate links in the thread but that MN do change amazon links shared by posters into MN affiliate links.

Please do watch the thread rather than post to mark place to make it easier for everyone to keep up and find relevant info.

Struggling with two final gifts. I need to pick 2 separate gifts, under £30 each, for my 7 year old DS from his aunt & uncle. He’s massively into tech & coding. This year he’s already getting Mario/Sonic Switch games, a retro Mario console & accessories for his Switch. He spends most of his timing doing scratch coding on his laptop! He’s recently got into Minecraft. Any ideas??

PlanBea · 25/11/2023 10:31

@napsarelifewithtwo ah it happens! So easy to fall down when you've got little ones distracting you too. Call your bank now, they may be able to block the transaction or reclaim the money, and more importantly issue you a new card as the scammers may take your details and use it for their own shopping spree. The only reason I didn't fall for a "Waitrose" scam a few weeks ago was because my toddler decided to have a meltdown before I could complete the transaction 🫣

Repeating a request made at the end of the last thread - does anyone know of any good deals on beer / alcohol/ coffee advent calendars, please?
thank you!

I’m not sure if the brand is considered cool or not but ‘Wow You Beauty’ might be worth a look. It’s all natural and aimed at teens. I actually bought one of the sample/starter kits for a young relative. She was having a bit of trouble with spots and it really cleared them up!

Apparently bubble is the latest 'thing'
Byoma is also quite popular with the teens. My tween has asked for drunken elephant. Thats a hard no! ££££

Drunk elephant is popular with tweens because of Tiktok and cute packaging but as well as being expensive most of the ingredients are way too harsh for young skin, I nixed a request for it from 12yo niece for that reason. Went for an ELF set instead.

LonelyFlans · 25/11/2023 10:45

Does anyone have any recommendations for a perfume sampling set for a woman in her 70s?

She doesn't like floral perfumes but is open to others.

I wasn't sure if the Arriana Grande perfume would be too "young" for her.

Could anyone suggest brands of moisturiser for a 13 year old? What's cool? Obviously I can pick moisturiser but I'm going to assume there are particular brands she might want.

@MammaRoly the Papier stuff makes a beautiful gift - even if you don’t order a gift box it still comes in beautiful wrapping and really is a wow lux gift.

the best deal is pretty much always the Black Friday code plus a referral link for an extra £10 off, although this year the BF code is 20% off and so the best deal was actually last week, which was 25% off plus a referral link.

i am a regular customer and I would say from previous experience it’s unlikely you’ll get a better deal than that before Christmas.

i got an email from them today saying the 20% code finishes today so best make a quick decision if you’re going for it!

you’ll find a referral code on this thread: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6

I've been sitting back hoping for a great code for Vans like we had last year - has anyone seen anything? Thanks

Magik01 · 25/11/2023 10:47

Quick question, the Ariana Perfume Cloud, would people recommend it for a 30 something year old?! The bottle looks teeny, does it smell good?

With the good deal on Amazon it means blind buying. Thank you!

MamaClausToTheRescue · 25/11/2023 10:50

🎨If anyone is buying for a crafty / arty child you might want to look into thermal printers on amazon - you can pick one up for about £17 and they look great for printing drawings, making stickers etc.

Penhaligans are gorgeous fragrances, not too floral, and absolutely beautifully presented.

Can any one suggest a Boardgame, for 2+ players, SIMPLE rules (suitable for both elderly with brain fog) & teens?
Not TV / pop culture based.

medianewbie · 25/11/2023 10:56

Manners, sorry: 'please' ?

LionMummyRoar · 25/11/2023 10:56

I'm sorry because I know this has been asked before but lists have finally be written and now it turns out my boys were planning to ask Santa for a switch.
I am wary of going second hand- but the prices seem insane- has anyone found a way of minimising the cost??

fishfingersandchipsagain · 25/11/2023 11:00

I’m going to go against the flow with Papier. Mine arrived this morning. I bought 2 notebooks and a gift box, which was £34 including postage after codes, referral etc. so £17 per notebook.

They are nice, but underwhelming even for the reduced price. I would put them firmly on a par with eg Roger la Borde (£12ish), or those kind of brands that you can get in most card/gift shops.

Thinish paper (not as heavy as moleskine or leuchtturm). Cover is pretty but not well bound etc.

It’s a perfectly nice gift that I would be quite happy to receive, but if I were guessing the price I would not have thought £20+ for full price. On balance, for that price I would prefer a ltd edition moleskine. I was expecting to buy more as special gifts, but won’t be tempted.

MammaGnomes · 25/11/2023 11:10

Cheapest I'm finding crocs is on crocs website 50% off making the junior 4 in white just under £25 Quidco do 6.5% cashback too.

https://www.crocs.co.uk/on/demandware.store/Sites-crocsgb-Site/enGB/Cart-Show

Has anyone seen them lower before I checkout?

MammaGnomes · 25/11/2023 11:14

I hadn't even looked at the ingredients in them if I'm honest @goodgriefsean because once I saw the price it was a straight no! My mum is going to buy her the lip balm though to tick the box. Do you think that would be ok for her?
