I've recenty found this lovely song and wondered what other gems are out there that get ignored in favour of the well known (overplayed) Christmas songs.

Any suggestions?🎄🎅🏻

John Denver did a Christmas special with the Muppets in 1979 where if I remember correctly they all wore Victorian costumes (not to be confused with The Muppets Christmas Carol, with Michael Caine) and there are some lovely songs from that one. There is one that has become an earworm recently due to its sounding similar to a very controversial slogan signalling sympathy with the Palestinian cause, but the song itself is sweet and peaceful - it’s my brain at fault. But anyway, following that song on the album is a delightful version of Miss Piggy, Scooter, Gonzo and Robin doing Christmas is Coming (“the goose is getting fat”) which they do in a canon style. Hilarious.

My sister and I have had a thing for John Denver and the Muppets since the eighties, partly to annoy our dad Grin Their version of 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' is amazing.

This was on some random Christmas tape from when I was a kid. Makes me feel all nostalgic!

I also love Long December by Counting Crows. You never hear it here but when we go to Ireland for Christmas it's often on the radio.

Omg! I always thought this was Paul McCartney!!!

The Wexford Carol.

Not unusual if you’re Irish, but I never hear it in the UK.

A New York City Christmas - Rob Thomas

As a native New Yorker if you got me at the wrong time I’d burst into tears at that.

Judy Collins does a version of the Wexford Carol that will send shivers down your spine.

Love it

Joni Mitchell- River. I know that it was covered by Ellie Goulding more recently but I love it.

Wasn't it on Ally McBeal too?

Utterly beautiful. Haunting and with a twist. Based on a poem and put to music by my favourite band.

Lots on here I love too. Tim Minchin, Kate Rusby and Thea Gilmore in particular.

Cocteau Twins Snow EP, contained Frosty the Snowman and Winter Wonderland. Liz Fraser's voice is so Christmassy anyway but these are so beautiful to listen to.
This review of it on Wiki made me laugh:

What's truly magical is the second track, "Frosty the Snowman", done in the style of the old Cocteaus (ie: you can't work out what the f* Liz is singing about, and furthermore you don't care)."[4] 😂
