Have I missed the Hallmark/Netflix/ Amazon prime thread on all those cheesy Prince from (insert unlikely name for snowy European country) meets girl from New York films?

Anyone share my guilty pleasure of these so awful they’re good films?

please tell me I’m not the only one here.

@housethatbuiltme If you haven’t already seen it, Violent Night is brilliant. I watched There’s Something in the Barn earlier today and that was a lot of fun (crass American’s move to Norway, piss off the Barn Elf, mayhem and murder ensues) but that’s a brand new release so you do have to pay for it.

DH and I watched Violent Night yesterday and really enjoyed it!

I initially wasn't keen as I thought it was a gory horror but it's a comedy thriller and very tongue in cheek. It is a a quite gory but funny with it.

"Silent night" on Amazon is a very different Christmas film but I "enjoyed" it. Its got Matthew Goode and Kiera Knightley in it and a great English cast. Family and friends gather at a country house for a final Christmas knowing it is their last Christmas before the end of the world.

"This Is Christmas" was recommended upthread , watched it today .

It;s one if those yes I know what's going to happen here films , a bit "Love Actually" with some lovely views of London at Christmas .

Enjoyed it Xmas Grin

Ah it was me who suggested it-agree re a similar style to Love Actually.
Timothy Spall was brilliant. I really liked it.

My new recommendation is Click and Collect.

It is short-my DS(aged27) suggested it and it and to my surprise I really enjoyed it. Stephen Merchant and Asim Chaundhry very good pairing...
He told me that the makers probably didn't expect anyone to cry quite so early in the film as I did but lots of laughs too.

Just finished the Christmas break on iplayer, really enjoyed it. Not typical hallmark cheese, about a couple visiting family in Ireland from the US.

caringcarer · 14/12/2023 02:58

I saw Genie tonight and I loved it.

IceAndLemonPlease · 14/12/2023 17:02

“A Christmas present “. Wasn’t my favourite. Some of the characters were annoying especially the lead couple !

SusanKennedyshouldLTB · 14/12/2023 20:46

I watched Christmas in the Smokies tonight. Garbage.

Anyone remember from last year a Hallmark film where a European King from random country and his mother get stranded in a Vermont B&B. There's something about a pyjama ball and the King falls in love with B&B owners daughter (obviously!) and comes back and gives her a pair of royal slippers.

Terrible but I loved it. I can't remember the name.

One Royal Christmas is on C5 tomorrow at 12:35pm!

Notonthestairs · 15/12/2023 19:50

@Talisin
Thank you 🙏 I've set to record. I enjoyed it last year although I missed the first 20 minutes (doesn't take long to catch up with these films though does it! 😁)

mogtheexcellent · 15/12/2023 20:05

Just watched A Knight Before Christmas on Netflix with DD 9. Its not as good as the Princess Switch FIlms but quietly enjoyable. Had to turn the volume right up though, as male lead was so quiet.

Have set the royals staying in B&B one to record as its quite good.

Talisin · 15/12/2023 20:46

Christmas 24 has a brand new Hallmark one, Christmas in Notting Hill, on Sunday. Can’t wait! 😁

IceAndLemonPlease · 16/12/2023 09:51

I watched the original “Miracle on 34th street” was pretty good although dragged a bit in places

SequinsandStiIettos · 17/12/2023 15:08

It's not Xmassy but I just watched Marry Me for the second time - tis a veritable cheeseboard of a romcom!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/12/2023 15:21

12 Gifts of Christmas
One of my favourite CCF ( 2nd to Snow Angles ) .

MrsMitford3 · 17/12/2023 18:12

Anyone else watching Christmas in Notting hill??

It is a wonderfully fabulous cliche-love the American take on English life.

Graham Savoy 😂DYING

Notonthestairs · 17/12/2023 18:15

I'm recording it MrsMitford3 - I also clocked the footballers name is Graham Saviy Grin

MrsMitford3 · 17/12/2023 18:16

@Notonthestairs they just literally did the coffee spilling/I live 5 mins from here scene from Notting Hill. Pure gold.

Notonthestairs · 17/12/2023 20:53

Excellent - if it worked for Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts why wouldn't it work for Graham Savoy? Grin

burnoutbabe · 20/12/2023 20:35

12 dates of Christmas was good

I thought it was about game designers )ie computer games) but was actually scavenger hunt type games. But it was pleasant and overall sweet.
Had Tyler hynes in who appears to be in tons of these things and has a pleasant beard, which usually i don't like

burnoutbabe · 20/12/2023 20:36

Also called on the 12th date of Christmas which is in tomorrow3 on Christmas 24

VillageFete · 20/12/2023 21:15

Laughed my head off at Christmas in Notting Hill. So bad it was good!! Ultimate cheese!

Talisin · 30/12/2023 12:12

Probably a bit late in the season now but if you’re clinging on to Christmas (movies) till the bitter end and have a Fire TV, I’ve just found an app called Christmas Plus that has lots of free Christmas movies. Even better, it has the last part of the Christmas with a Prince trilogy that Great! Movies Christmas have been showing the first two parts of (on again on New Year’s Day in fact).

EwwSprouts · 30/12/2023 19:59

I've just settled down with Christmas in the Caribbean. Cast of Elizabeth Hurley, Caroline Quentin and Stephanie Beacham. I have high hopes!

That’s an awesome cast list. I may give it a whirl myself tomorrow!
