Have I missed the Hallmark/Netflix/ Amazon prime thread on all those cheesy Prince from (insert unlikely name for snowy European country) meets girl from New York films?

Anyone share my guilty pleasure of these so awful they’re good films?

please tell me I’m not the only one here.

Today's Channel 5 offering appears to be a 2023/ new one - and set in the UK- called
'Christmas in the Cotswolds'.

It features a Christmas wedding, apparently. I might record it for later Grin.

VillageFete · 19/11/2023 13:31

@Raahh Ooh just read the synopsis “Emma finds herself unexpectedly in the English Countryside and must team up with a Christmas market owner to bring order to her sister’s whirlwind wedding” 🤣

After that is my fave version of “A Christmas Carol” so i’m recording that. Followed by “Aldi vs Harrods- who does Christmas better?” 🤣 Recording that too!

I’m at a Christmas movie advantage this year guys. I’m having a C section on 6th December, so it’s the law, surely, that I rest on the couch or in bed and watch non stop festive cheese?

Oh you will have the best excuse to sit and watch endless festive cheese.

Grin.

My ds was due on the 21st of December (he eventually made an appearance on the 29th- the day before my birthday).

He's 21 this year. Christmas week is a bit busy really Grin.

VillageFete · 19/11/2023 13:44

Yes, it sounds like Christmas week is defo hectic for you, so surely you HAVE to spend as much time as possible now watching all of these Hallmark/Festive offerings because you simply won’t have time closer to Christmas?

Raahh · 19/11/2023 13:47

@VillageFete yes, that's my excuse- and I'm sticking to it Grin

HermioneWeasley · 19/11/2023 14:08

I have just watched “the Noel diaries” which was sweet

toastofthetown · 19/11/2023 16:30

I've just started Christmas in the Cotswolds and five minutes in I'm complaining that in England you need to give notice before your wedding. And can't expect your event planner sister to drop her work and join you last minute to plan your wedding in two weeks in another country presumably for free. This is going to be great!

Sluj · 19/11/2023 16:44

Also doesn't really look like the Cotswolds, does it? Where are all the pretty stone buildings? That house the 26 year old sister lives in looks like it would be worth at least £1.5 million though if it was in the Cotswolds . Enjoying it so far though 😄

Raahh · 19/11/2023 16:48

Oh good- I can't watch 'Christmas in the Cotwolds' at the moment- but it sounds like it is ticking a few cheesy Christmas film boxes so far!Grin

VillageFete · 19/11/2023 16:52

Oh, and the sisters have never met before! (Christmas in the Cotswolds) It’s madness, and seems even more surreal because it’s a UK one.

Look at our beautifully decorated pubs though. I love a pub at Christmas

Sluj · 19/11/2023 16:53

Actually, I think the house is more like £2.5 million, it's gorgeous 😍

toastofthetown · 19/11/2023 17:00

For the wedding to be legal in England it would need to be in an approved venue by a registrar. Does the sister finding the officiant realise this?

I find the UK set moves funnier, because you actually know how it works. Like in A Very Yorkshire Christmas where her trans-Atlantic flight got diverted to Yorkshire airport so small her only option was to take a steam train to Knares-boro and wait a week for another flight. Maybe people in Vermont feel the same about people inheriting an inn in a town obsessed with Christmas.

AmyandPhilipfan · 19/11/2023 22:52

Tonight I'm watching Angel Falls Christmas on Netflix. Neighbour complains that the workaholic Dr who doesn't really 'do' Christmas hasn't decorated her 'front yard' and yet there are decorations on the porch and banisters. And looks through the window and tuts at the lack of tree. Then they show the Dr go into the house and it is decorated far more than I, a Christmas loving person, ever decorate my house. Granted her boyfriend did decorate it but I fail to understand what the neighbour is seeing when she is bemoaning the lack of decorations.

Dr and boyfriend break up as he doesn't think she'll ever stop being a workaholic. She wants to get back with him and yet the very next day meets another guy and starts spending all her time with him. Also guy, who I remember as being in lots of teen/YA things, has a very odd way of speaking. He sounds almost robotic. I would guess that she's going to fall in love with him, except the ex boyfriend also seems to have a side storyline, and seems a decent guy, so Im not sure if it's building up to her seeing the error of her ways and getting back with him.

Great! Christmas has The Spirit of Christmas on at 2pm today (or 3pm on +1). If you’ve not seen it, it’s a Christmas ghost story, but romantic rather than scary, the leads have great chemistry and it’s a nice twist on the too-busy-for-romance career woman meets grumpy-not-interested-in-romance-either guy. Oh and it stars which doesn’t hurt!

The writer of this also wrote The Snow Bride which someone mentioned earlier in the thread, just as good but very different.

Guys, “A Christmas… Present” is on My5

It stars Christmas Queen Candace Cameron Bure and is a new offering from Great American Christmas (She legged Hallmark for them as apparently Hallmark were losing their Christian values)

I’ve seen it and it’s a MUST. It’s unbelievably cheesy. It’s VERY CCB. I’m going to watch it again.

Raahh · 20/11/2023 15:21

'A Christmas Movie Christmas' is on Christmas 24- all the Hallmark cliches in one film Grin.

HallmarkGingerbreadWoman · 20/11/2023 19:04

I'm immediately adding A Christmas ... Present to my list, after A Hot Chocolate Christmas and Christmas at Castle Hart, which I've just started. So far it's excellent! I also loved some of the Christmas-Hanukkah crossover films that were on last year, but can't seem to find any this year.

I’d love to know what the ‘Christian values’ are in these things.
Guilting women into dumping their hard won careers and independence to take up with a chippy misery from the town the 1950s want back, in the process raising his brat and everyone’s cholesterol with endless baking?

VillageFete · 20/11/2023 19:55

@IheartNiles Laughing my head off at this 🤣

@HallmarkGingerbreadWoman Have you ever seen “Will you Merry me?” That’s a Hannukah crossover one and is always on every year. I think C5 show it? I know Christmas 24 did too. Not seen it on so far this year though.

I watched it on Great Christmas about two weeks ago. I love that one - it's one of my favourites. I like the daughter, Rebecca, and how down to earth she is when everyone around her is going quite mad.

HallmarkGingerbreadWoman · 20/11/2023 20:14

@VillageFete ooh, I haven't! I'll keep an eye out for that one!
I loved 'Mistletoe and Menorahs' and 'Double Holiday' - think at least one of those was Ch5 last year?

VillageFete · 20/11/2023 20:31

@HallmarkGingerbreadWoman See above! @FinallyFinalGirl Says Great Christmas is showing it. It’s a good’en.

I love the scene between the 2 husbands who are trying to explain how women work to the young, soon to be groom.

Very cheesy in parts, it’s great.

HallmarkGingerbreadWoman · 20/11/2023 20:33

Ah, how did I miss that message!! Grin Distracted by Castle Hart, seemingly!! Can't wait to watch that one, thank you both!

VillageFete · 20/11/2023 20:37

Ooh another one that I loved, but haven’t seen in a while is “The Christmas secret”

It’s not recent, it’s from 2014, and it has Bethany Joy Lenz in. It has a nice twist and is a lovely watch. It may be on My5?

HermioneWeasley · 20/11/2023 21:22
