Tesco slots

Anyone else getting up at stupid o'clock tomorrow to nab their slot? Hate this bloody process every year, wish they’d come up with a better way to do it!

Sadly Tesco are the only reliable option here so I’m tied in 🙄 last year a thread on here kept me going through the early hours so I’m hoping some of you are around again tomorrow!

Been on for an hour, still showing 33 minute wait

Hippodogamus · 07/11/2023 07:32

I don’t understand it. Does everyone want one because everyone’s else does? I can understand if you’re working up until Christmas - otherwise I just don’t get the point.

Zanatdy · 07/11/2023 07:32

All done. I booked 23rd and every single slot was still available. Done it nice and early so can go to the shops for a couple of items if they aren’t delivered. I usually go away for Christmas but can’t this year so glad I’ve booked. I’ve booked every Sunday until Christmas now which is my usual delivery time, as I know they are harder to get on the run up to Christmas.

I waited 1hrs 25

I get a delivery once a week, so I want a delivery that weekend as I always do. Why would I suddenly decide to go to the shops instead when I pay for the delivery saver? These early slots are for the customers who pay for the delivery saver so are regulars for home deliveries. What’s not to understand?

Notyetthere · 07/11/2023 07:36

Got the 23rd 1-2pm slot. All morning slots were gone. I can just about get dh to get whatever thru don't deliver from his shop. Luckily we haven't had Substitutions for most years.

What time do people recommend opening the app at? I got a slot for Christmas last year but missed the dates I could order the special order festive food. I live somewhere that doesn't have alot of options and would like to get the special order food.

I logged on to Tesco at 5.30am. Slot booking opened at 6am and within one minute I had my pick of all slots available on 23rd December.

My nearest supermarket is a 26 mile round trip. This is why I have a delivery saver. It’s cheaper for them to deliver than it is for me to go to the shop. I don’t care what others want and need. I am only concerned with my family.

eggsandwich · 07/11/2023 07:38

I’ve had to book a click and collect out of area as our huge Tesco which has revamped it click and collect area to accommodate more customer’s is fully booked.

NotSorry · 07/11/2023 07:38

I used to do this every year but gave up my delivery saver when it ran out in the summer as I was fed up with Tesco changing points etc. I'll just get bits as as I go along. Good luck to those trying to get a slot.

Massivescreen · 07/11/2023 07:43

What @Zanatdy said. I get a Tesco order every single week, and have done for years. I always book the slot a month in advance. Average weekly delivery is £100, I find it so annoying to have to go through this rigmarole each year.

And they call childfree people selfish 😂

I just joined delivery saver for me and mum, didn't know this was a thing.

It is all fairly obvious, but maybe you can explain what you don't understand?

I want my shopping delivered as usual, so book ahead as slots fill up. Others book because shopping the weekend before Christmas can be busier than usual in the shops. Others because they buy more than usual as they have other plans or visitors attend Christmas.

This is bizarre - we used to shop with Tesco but switched to Asda several years ago. We have a midweek delivery pass, went in back in October to do the usual weekly shop and noticed they'd made Christmas slots available. So I booked one and then went back in to do my regular shop. No queues, no hassle. They did used to announce in advance when they were opening the slots and I think that used to be worse as everyone jumped on at the same time. This year they haven't announced it and there are loads available. Might be worth considering for anyone having trouble with Tesco? Good luck all!

I switched to an Asda midweek pass last month, it's so much cheaper than Tesco (£35pa) and I can choose an earlier delivery slot (6-8am) which suits me better. Plus, as you say, I noticed Christmas slots were available so already booked mine - and there's still plenty available. Glad I haven't had to go through this Tesco debacle again this year!!

I'm working up until Christmas. Lots of people are. I also loathe supermarkets at the best of times - I was a very early adopter of shopping delivery, back when Asda would send you a catalogue, and you phoned your order in. And I've been having weekly deliveries since!

Wetblanket78 · 07/11/2023 07:52

I couldn't get one last year got click and collect instead. I don't drive so not ideal but managed to get a lift. But some was missing pretty much most our Christmas dinner. The poor staff were run ragged. They did go and get me what was missing though and some chocolates for the hassle.

Nope I just really really hate going to the shops at Christmas. In my area people seem to see it as a family trip out so you will have both parents and then 2-4 bored shitless kids who are playing up (don't blame them!) plus all the usual ditherers deciding which cabbage looks the nicest etc. I tried to avoid it all last year by going at 8am on the 22nd but it still took me over an hour to do a ship that would normally take me 25/30 mins. Oh and the car park is always gridlocked!

Auntieobem · 07/11/2023 07:58

2 slots booked - ours and one for my mum

TulipTuesday · 07/11/2023 08:01

Queue was 1hr 20mins for me but got a slot on the 23rd 👍🏻

There's always one of these types of replies every year

No ... never get the important things for Christmas Day . We just go in and do a Christmas shop nowadays .

Same here, M&S as soon as it opens on the 23rd. Which is usually 7 am.

willWillSmithsmith · 07/11/2023 08:13

I got my slot this morning (first time I’ve used this facility). It was weird though as I went in at 6am as instructed (actually before then just to keep an eye on it). It went from twenty minutes waiting to twelve minutes then to eighteen minutes!! Why did that happen?

Crazymadchickenlady · 07/11/2023 08:17

I logged on about 6:15 and it said more than an hour to wait. Went back to sleep again and woke up to you can now book have 7 mins left. 23/24th all gone but got 22nd which is fine and gives me time to go and get any last minute things.

Mummumgem · 07/11/2023 08:18

Finally got on and got booked.

didn’t get the dates I would have liked, latest one available was the Friday 22nd at 7-8pm so I got that one, and managed to book my usual Thursday morning slots for the weeks running up to it.

i’m disabled, and the prejudice against disabled shoppers the last week or two before Christmas really means I can’t go. I know my daughter or son will take me but I just can’t face it. So delivery is a must,

I’m a Tesco delivery member but honestly I’m not sure I can be bothered.
Every year just seems like the same thing, massive fuss about bagging a slot… all goes quiet until the week of Christmas… massive fuss about all the substitutions, out of stock items and ‘ruining Christmas’

Every year I despair at how many seem to think putting an online order in middle of November guarentees them items.

I think I’d rather go get them than go through this tirade again.

This. The last thing I want is to get an order with crucial things missing, then have to trawl around looking for them elsewhere. Easier just to go shopping in person in the first place.
