Food that is not Christmas food but that you only eat at Christmas

So not your typical Christmas pudding, mince pies etc but what other things do you only eat at Christmas? I’ve just had a double decker bar from a selection box and it was so delicious it’s made me wonder why I never buy them throughout the year, but always eat one at Christmas!

I have also spent the last few days working my way through a big bag of honey roasted cashew nuts - so good! But only really ‘allowed’ at Christmas according to the weird rules about Christmas food I seem to have made up in my head for no apparent reason Grin. Any others to add to the list?

A jar of Hellmans full fat mayo, available all year but only ever bought at Christmas. Tastes so good as well!

So many! Chocolate orange, quality street, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs is something I only do for breakfast this week (but not Christmas morning), I love sprouts with Christmas lunch but wouldn’t get them for a roast normally. Pork pies are bi annual - hot day picnics or Christmas buffet food only. Would not think to buy them for a rainy April weekend.

mind you if I ate the way I have this week all year round I’d be the size of a house.

Honey roast cashews for me too. Tofiffee (not sure how to spell ) matchmakers Stilton, Pringles. Don't really eat them at and other time

Worklessplaymore · 29/12/2022 13:49

Chocolate orange

After eight mints

Pork pies

Scotch eggs

Selection of nuts in their shells

Fresh lychees for the stockings

And pomegranates (although we occasionally cook with them on other occasions)

And it used to be crystallised fruits, soft nougat and Turkish delight when I was young but we don’t tend to buy those nowadays.

Prawn cocktailp

Rainbowshit · 29/12/2022 13:55

Where did you find honey roasted cashews? All the ones I have seen had peanuts mixed in too this year.

Blendandmix · 29/12/2022 13:55

Pistachio nuts

Crazyinlove123 · 29/12/2022 13:57

Pate. It’s beautiful on toast but I never buy it throughout the year.

StarCourt · 29/12/2022 14:00

pate here too and any tinned chocolates or biscuits

Thisisnothowitwasmeanttogo · 29/12/2022 14:10

Port! It’s delicious but I can’t imagine drinking it on a sunny day or warm evening! In fact I don’t touch it any month apart from December.

Bogglebrain · 29/12/2022 14:12

Pate and After Eights.

used to be chocolate orange but I now eat them throughout the year (but never pay more than £1!).

Tempyname · 29/12/2022 14:15

Matchmakers, honey roasted nuts, dates and blinis. Sadly after eights are a year round staple in our house haha.

Mmmmdanone · 29/12/2022 14:19

Smoked salmon. love it but a bit expensive to have all year.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 29/12/2022 14:23

Wensleydale with cranberries
Pate
Smoked mackerel pate
Chocolate orange
Red cabbage

StillSmallVoice · 29/12/2022 14:31

Pate. Homemade every Christmas. Family really like it, but never make it at any other time. Ditto, shortbread.

PussGirl · 29/12/2022 14:33

Pork pie - have it for breakfast on Christmas Day with chutney, but hardly ever eat it otherwise.

Oranges in syrup - delicious as a lighter dessert - no idea why I don't make it all year.

NightTerrors · 29/12/2022 14:37

Pate, prawn cocktail, pringles and bendicks mint chocolate. Always available but only ever eaten at Christmas. I have no idea why. My mum firmly believes that brie is only a Christmas cheese and is shocked that I eat it all year round though 😂

MintyGreenDreams · 29/12/2022 14:39

Taramasalata also known as pink crack

wwyd2021medicine · 29/12/2022 14:44

Orange juice

exLtEveDallas · 29/12/2022 15:00

My home made stuffing. DD goes nuts for it and I only make it at Christmas - too much faff throughout the year.

‘posh’ cheese for crackers. We always have box standard cheddar, and cheap dog cheese. But White Stilton with mango and ginger, or a decent blue, Castello pineapple, Cheshire and cranberry… My fridge is currently more cheese than fridge.

AriettyHomily · 29/12/2022 15:01

Dry roasted peanuts

Harriettaa · 29/12/2022 15:03

Posh orange juice - tropicana or the like
Most cheeses apart from cheddar.
Red cabbage - shame because I actually really like it.
Deserts- never really have deserts apart from yoghurts/fruit
Pickled onions
J20's and shloer etc..

Hellybelly84 · 29/12/2022 15:05

Twiglets
Cheese Footballs
After Eights
Salted Peanuts

Sisisimone · 29/12/2022 15:07

Bendicks Bittermints
M&S dark chocolate cherry liqueurs
After Eights
Nuts in their shell
Sprouts

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 29/12/2022 15:07

Medjool dates. I've no idea why I only get them at Christmas considering I love them!
