Food that is not Christmas food but that you only eat at Christmas

So not your typical Christmas pudding, mince pies etc but what other things do you only eat at Christmas? I’ve just had a double decker bar from a selection box and it was so delicious it’s made me wonder why I never buy them throughout the year, but always eat one at Christmas!

I have also spent the last few days working my way through a big bag of honey roasted cashew nuts - so good! But only really ‘allowed’ at Christmas according to the weird rules about Christmas food I seem to have made up in my head for no apparent reason Grin. Any others to add to the list?

Pickled onions 🤣 No idea why we don't eat them at any other time (both enjoy them!) it's a bizarre Christmas tradition 🤣

The expensive pots of custard from Waitrose, usually we just have Ambrosia cartons.
Lots of different types of cheese
Niederegger chocolates
Shortbread biscuits

Yes, of course. It’s very easy and a family classic at our house. The bits of nougat in the toblerone mean there’s a slightly grit in it, not like a smooth chocolate mousse, which makes it interesting.

200g Toblerone. Break up the Toblerone and mix with 6 tablespoons of boiling water. Cool a little till the mix is nearly setting. Gently fold in 1/2 pint stiff whipped cream, then 2 stiffly beaten egg whites until mixed. Decorate with grated choc. It needs time to set - a good few hours in the fridge (at least 5-6), but preferably overnight

Tinned corned beef. Oxtail soup over cold meat and picky food.

greennavy · 30/12/2022 11:18

Baileys

labazslovesliving · 30/12/2022 14:43

cheese that is nice not just the ordinary cheddar we normally have ones with herbs or cranberries in; Boursin, cheese rolled in pineapple, and nuts the list is endless!
crackers for cheese always end up with some left the ones we don't like but still buy just for Christmas
tins of sweets be better for us if we did not have them though but I always buy quite a few for gifs and one extra always appears
dates bit meeh but have to have them
shortbread delicious but only get at Christmas
